Shower with mine and regularly dunk it into water at work. Being in the food industry, you're not really supposed to be wearing watches(raw chicken and other bacteria). I dunk it into the sink to pull the drain, and probably wash it throughly 25-50 times a day with soap as well as sanitizer... Soap is a no-no even for rolexes as it likes to get into any cracks, but I've had an Apple Watch since day one and haven't had any problems! Ymmv
Doing this will quickly wear out the rubber seals and destroy your watch. Be careful.

Is this data-driven, or opinion? If data-driven, can you cite the source? And, what is your definition of "quickly;" are we talking 1 year or 10 years before someone might notice an impact from regular swimming or showering?

I wouldn't take it into the shower with me (i wouldn't even take my 100m Quartz watch in the shower with me). I leave it off and charging.

I may or may not wear it into a pool. If I were at a hotel id hate to leave it in the room or on the chairs. And at a community pool i definitely wouldn't want to leave it on the chairs/tables either.

Washing dishes? Sure. Shower - often. Swim - not yet. But judging by the responses (particularly the lack of anyone screaming), I think I'll start.

Bought on launch day and have showered over 300 times, ran in the rain/mud/mist several dozen times, workout 5x week/sweat, wash hands, wash car, swam a few times and......So when do you define as quickly and what :apple:Watch evidence do you base this on? :D

You are probably correct about 10 years but I bet no one CAN notice in 10 years or how is your original iPhone working.

I rinse my stainless watch daily. Never have showered with it on but if I had to like at a gym or something I wouldn't hesitate. It's very water resistant.

Outside of convenience is there any upside to wearing your watch in the shower? I can certainly see if you are at the gym but I don't quite understand why at the house. Everyone is different, maybe some play with it in the shower?

Sometimes I've forgotten and worn my watch into the shower - like in a locker room or when I'm in a big hurry. It holds up just fine.

It keeps the watch from becoming nasty and disgusting. I wouldn't buy a watch -- smartwatch or not -- if it couldn't withstand an occasional rinse.

I've taken a couple phone calls in the shower, and I was able to send off a quick text, too (free rock concert tickets were on the line).

Gotcha, makes sense.

I've never had the urge or need to wear it in the shower, though I do clean the watch after workouts and have worn it while showering at the gym after swimming.

I was always worried about swimming with it but a few months back I started using it while swimming as well. Nice having it logging activity during swim workouts. Wouldn't mind a nice app for tracking pool lengths while swimming.

Well now that you can get them for $250 at Best Buy, it's a lot less of a concern if the watch fails.

No matter what any one say there is little purpose in it except to brag about it here. I doubt that the build up of soap scum, yes the same stuff that has to be clean from the walls in your shower, helps your watch in staying clean. Sure the AW can handle getting wet but that does not mean there are advantages to it in the shower.

Free concert tickets! LOL

Free concert tickets! LOL

Yup. We were in Dallas, and I had just started my shower when I got a text from my manager saying our group had gotten an offer for tickets to see Motley Crue the following evening.

I blew the water off the watch face and my finger, found the group text for my team, dictated a message (Siri got "Motley Crue" correct!), and sent it off. Before I finished my shower, three of the five tickets were claimed by my guys.

I'm telling the story to say what the AW is capable of, not as fodder for you to be a dick.

I rinse mine off.... And that's all I'll ever do. Despite the numerous cases where the AW survives, there are some in which it has not. That's a fact. Whether it's a year a day, or however long. Of course people are going to push the limits, and most have found it stands up to it. But do I want to risk it, and have to deal with a return process? No. In the end, like everything, this is a personal preference and an individual choice to push the boundaries. It's a bonus if handles it, and a "we told you so" if it eventually fails. To each their own as they say.... Definitely not something to bash each other over. All I know is if I mess mine up, I'll be pissed, so I'm just going to treat it right, and by right, I mean following Apples advice. Just my opinion.

Please post some examples of :apple:Watch water failures that are not attributed to a manufacture defect.

Manufacture defect or not, Apple states it's resistant, not water proof. You can google images of AW's that have had seals let water in the top right corner causing a permanent 'spot' in them. If they say it's not water proof, it's not. If even just one fails, it becomes a fact, and it's happened. Granted there are far more cases of the AW surpassing what Apple has stated it can do, it's still not worth it for me to find out the hard way.... I'll dig around for the links and edit this post in a bit

Here's one....

That's all I need to know..... Is that it's possible. I'm just not gambling. Again, this is just my opinion and I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. Defect or not.....

I realize these examples are extreme or random. I'm not here to debate your opinions. Merely to state mine, and why I'm not going to test or take chance with a 400 device..... Like I said, I hope no one has an issue and I think it's great that the AW stands up to water in almost every case.

This is a well know manufacture defect that effected a number of early :apple:Watches where the glue failed or the glue was not applied correctly to the crystal assembly. There have been several threads of people that had this failure. It is 100% a manufacture defect and covered under warranty and not related to the water resistant rating.

Also there is no such thing as waterproof. Waterproof is a term thrown around by the media but is not used in the watch industry. Watches carry a water resistant rating (not waterproof). The :apple:Watch is rated IPx7.

Technically is rated IPX7 under IEC standard 60529..... I have no idea what that means, nor do I care..... But no worries

Well my watch is now messed up from water damage. I've showered with it occasionally and just took it into the pool while I was on vacation this past week. I submerged the watch maybe 1-2ft in and out of the water. I started to get a bubble towards the top right of the screen and now the display is all messed up.

I guess I was lucky - My sport watch has had 40 + swims and everything is working since day 1. It also showers with me, but only gets really wet the same days I swim. When I swim, I'm in the pool doing laps for 70+ minutes freestyle and back stroke so it's in and out of the water all the time. I guess it's submerged 20-24 inches since my arms don't go down to a meter length but every so often when I push off the wall, I do go down maybe to 30 inches to do some breast strokes back to the surface.

Looks like it had a defect to begin with like a small opening that was water/air was able to get into after being submerged.
