True. Phones are almost grotesquely important to just about everyone. People will not back off. 5 minutes tops.
Did you use the app? If not, definitely do so.
The day before, go to the Apple store on your desktop and save your desired iPhone as a Favorite. When you open up the app next time, it will have a Favorites section that will have your iPhone stored in it. It'll save a lot of time when preordering.
The Jet black color was ridiculously popular last year. I remember some did not even receive the Jet black model until after Christmas.
It's was a bad idea to release iPhone 8, if iPhone 10 will be on sale, very stupid. Apart from that, it was a bad idea to set price level to 1k for high end model, when US dollar is 20% up in most countries. Less people are going to afford it, so the answer is no, it won't sell out quickly. But there is slight possibility that people would buy it to resell just to earn some money, having read news that X model will be on short stock. But shortly after having not found a buyer they will be returning iPhones back to Apple, so in that case iPhone will be available in stores again sooner.
jup, and I expect this first oled iPhone ever, just ''a little bit'' more popular then a simple iPhone 7 jetblack.
I expect 3 minutes tops. Any succesfull pre orders after that and you will be looking to shipping times somewhere in february/march 2018 (just 6 months before Apple announces the new 2018 oled iPhone X)

I'm betting shipping dates will slip within 30 seconds of the store going live. Which with the way Apple Store infrastructure is setup, some people won't even be able to place an order in time because the server they are connected to won't be live. The iPhone X launch is going to insane and consumer demand unprecedented.

What do you mean first worldwide pre order ever? It's always available in plenty of countries day 1 with lots more coming just a week later.
I would also think that the stores will only see a few X units trickle in each day for a long time.
Won't different colors/carriers/storage capacities sell out at different times? So is this a question of when all models have sold out? Or when they start selling out?

I don't buy iPhones for myself yearly, so I'm planning to skip this year. Maybe get onto the s cycle which I have never been on, where the rough edges of the new model have been fixed, and performance improvements are made.
Though, in theory, I could trade in my current 7+. Never traded in before, because I would hand the phone down to someone, but I bought SE models for them this year so they have "new" phones rather than used phones.
But, I'm on prepaid, so probably wouldn't be able to buy the phone until after the holidays anyway unless it is a bust.

Don’t get too nuanced. Plan on getting your order placed in under 4 minutes tops or don’t plan on getting one at all for awhile.

Not sure where you live but my 8+ and AW3 will be delivered before 10am to my office.
Does not get more easy. I would not want to be near an Apple store that morning.
