Ok an update on my problem with battery drain in sleep mode. As I mentioned in the last post I put the iPad into airplane mode before putting it to sleep this morning. Opened it up just now after over 12 hours and the battery hasn't dropped at all!!!!

So is this what people are doing when they say their iPads don't drop any battery percentage overnight??? Are you guys putting it in airplane mode??? Or do I maybe have an issue with the iPad's wifi that is causing the battery to drain in sleep mode.

Cheers

Dave.

I never turn mine off, just don't see the point. If I have enough juice when I go to bed, I just leave it on the desk. If not, I charge overnight.

Beyond the occasional restart, it never gets turned off.

I was a day 1 owner of the iPad 1, a day 1 owner of the iPad 2 and a day 1 owner of the iPad 3, and I've never powered my iPad down for any reason that I can think of.

Yes if your iPad or iPhone are off and I mean power completely off and you plug it in to a wall outlet yes it will turn on. If you don't touch the device it will go to sleep. So really no reason to ever turn off the devise to charge just leave it sit in sleep mode, and NO YOU COULD NEVER CHARGE THE IPAD OR IPHONE WHILE ACTUALLY POWERED OFF!!!

Makes me laugh to read things that can't even bet rue.

Edit: Well I guess you could turn the power off while it was plugged in. But then you would not get your phone calls and text messages and really I don't think it would charge that much faster imo. But if you think it makes a difference then it's whatever.

thats the point. I dont want phone calls and text while my phone is plugged in and im in the bed! no way you can tell me it doesn't charge faster being off

I never said it didn't. What I said was I never noticed any difference. And as to the phone call issue for me its a safety issue I don't have a land line so My cell is my only way to communicate. But everyone is different so its what ever.

Seem to be a lot of differing opinions. I turn mine off when I'm not using it for prolonged periods. Does it help? Who knows? Does it hurt? No.

Even with wifi on, email, iMessage and Random stuff idling/suspended my iPad 3rd gen only uses 1% overnight.

1% of usage is not going to make a jot of difference to the charge time whether you leave it turned on or not.

LOL

Dave, it's likely you have an issue with your router. This isn't normal. If your router is flaky and the iPad is constantly connecting and disconnecting through the night this can drain your battery. I had the same issue and it went away after replacing the old router.

I never turn it off. Just close the cover. It's always on wifi checking the mail, etc. Battery drops so little that I never paid attention to it. I actually forgot you could turn it off.

I don't keep it off, and the only times I restart is when a jailbreak install requires a restart. Apart from that it's pretty much always been on since day one (the same was true of the iPad 2 I used to have).

Apple claims 30 days battery in standby. They don't say how far the battery will fall in this amount of time.

I wonder if the new iPad actually can last longer than that. I remember iPad 2 had the same standby time. Since the new iPad has much larger battery to accommodate the more power hungry screen and GPU, wouldn't it last longer when those component aren't being used?
