After using my Dodocase for a week, I really like it. Luckily the Ipad fits snug in the case. It sits at a nice angle when I sit in bed and lay it against my thighs.

I am reluctantly returning the Dodo (if they have a way to do that). It just isn't functional enough, and I decided I didn't want to DIY it (velcro, extra foam, etc.). I've had my Apple case on for several days and it does everything I need. Minimalist, flexible, sturdy, love the typing incline and the way I can fold the cover completely flat to read.

I loved the way my iPad looked with Dodo when it wasn't in use, and I hope future iterations of the case are designed to address these issues.

Just received after 5 week wait - and returning it.

It came in damaged on the outside back of the case and the bamboo is chipped on the inside. It came shipped in a box that snugly holds the case, with absolutely no protection for the $50 case inside, which seems very fragile. What a shame.

Jeez - a customs charge? Didn't see that in the terms!

And 2 weeks to arrive? How's it travelling? By tortoise?

Jon

Of course it wouldn't be in the T&C. Customs charges are totally outside of DODO's control, and are entirely down to HM Government...and then that socking huge £8 "handling & collection" fee from Royal Mail. If you buy anything from outside the UK over the value of about £17, then you get charged, simple as that, and always has been the case.

As for the time? It's shipped via USPS. My guess is that it takes 3-4 days to get to the UK, and then RM sit on it for ages waiting for customs clearance.

Ok keep your hair on ;-)
I regularly buy stuff from the US and such charges normally transparent

As for customs - I agree they're a pain in the rear!

Slippery Dodo Case

Just received my case a few days ago, and my iPad pretty much flops out of it, I am sad to say. The foam doesn't seem very springy, and I wonder if that has to do with our low humidity. So I emailed the Dodo people about getting replacement foam, but even then I may just replace them and sell it on ebay because I can see this happening again. I wouldn't sell it as is without disclosing the slipperiness (if that's a word).

Tip: While awaiting my Dodocase I picked up a nylon padded zippered netbook case with handles at Ross for about $10. It fits the Dodocase. So, yes, I got a case for my case.

I had a thought along the lines of the proposed velcro solution: what about those 3M white strips? I think velcro would be too thick to use, but those white strips are pretty thin. Any opinions?

I just received mine and sad to say just sitting it on a table opened the iPad pushes the spine forward. It's hard to explain but it's as though it's not strong enough to hold up with the iPad in it. Not sure if it's a design flaw or an individual flaw. Otherwise, it is more of a novelty than anything and I love all things novel. :D

Mine arrived and seems just fine. Quite snug fit, but not too tight. About the only surprise was the way it shipped--just in a box with no wrap or anything. Still arrived just fine, however. The look is kind of fun in a retro way.

Mine arrived last week, really disappointed.

I put my iPad in it, following the technique they demonstrate on their website, and a few hours later the iPad just flops out. Now it seems incapable of holding the iPad securely.

Major design flaw if you ask me, bit of a shame really as it looks great, I love the design but would feel nervous about the iPad falling out and getting damaged.

They offered to send replacement pads, but don't fancy the idea of having to pick off the old Knesset, glue the new ones in.... Especially when I'm sure the same problem will happen again, so I think I'm just going to send it back for a refund.

Really hoping Moleskine hurry up and release their iPad case - after seeing their Kindle one, I think it will be perfect.

It's a nice case, but it doesn't seem very sturdy! Seems as if I'll need to take better care of it than my iPad :p

Well for me the DODOcase is sturdy enough. I carry my iPad in it every day to work, use it in meetings and back at home my son (1.8 years old) watch Olivia and try to draw with his fingers.
The foam still retain well the iPad so, don't know what to say. I know that many of you don't like it but for me is still the best one.

No I like it :) I just received it today. I'm just worried about damaging it so I might use it in 'light use' scenarios and my Apple Case for when I'm dumping it in my bag and going.

After a couple days use the spine is loose so typing on a table in landscape is like typing flat. Is this the case for anyone else?

Yes for me it was. The iPad is too heavy, so the Dodocase can't hold it up. That's why the Apple case has a catch on the back cover for the front cover (to hold the incline).

I'm really hoping Version 2 will solve this problem, but first they have to acknowledge it. I sent my Dodo back because of this and the bamboo warping.:(

Yeah I e-mailed them, no response, but the case is going back I think as much as I love the design.

I have had mine for a week or two, and rather like it. I like the retro style combination with the modern iPad. For some reason, my iPad is perfectly tight. I found that if you fold the back angle right (steep) it props up great for movie viewing and is pretty secure, even on a slippery table top. (Would not want to type at this angle, however). Not the easiest to read while standing up (unlike the Apple case where the cover folds back pretty flat.

Overall, I do like it. I like woodworking, so perhaps the bamboo appeals to me.

If Vaja is still in business (won't answer polite phone calls or very polite email) I hope to have another case this month sometime. ;)
