Did you even read the original post? There's a link with a video of an iPhone on a TRIPOD recording in a car where you can clearly here the power button rattling on playback.

I read the original post and i Saw the video .... I never experienced something like that on any iPhone, even in much more "unstable" situations.

Perhaps for you, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening to others....especially on these 5S's.

Sure.
But today I went to an Apple store, just to take a look at 5s and search for any difference between 5 and 5s (maybe a little difference in design of the power button) and I didn't see any.
Every iPhone I did examine had a solid button (a couple had moving volume buttons, but nothing that could cause a rattle), just like my iPhone 5.
So I don't understand the problem.

Could you make a video OF THE IPHONE showing the button actually moving in its place ?

I bought a new 5s yesterday and it has a loose/ rattling peer button too. Going to try to record some video in the car and see if mine comes through on the recording, will follow up with what I find/ hear.

family got another 5S, rattles. This makes 100% of every iPhone 5S ive ever held with a power button that rattles, including friends at my college. & every apple display model in every color.

I've had several 5s devices and none have rattled at all. I understand this is within their normal allowable amount of tolerance but it is annoying. I'm planning to get on the phone with T-Mobile and see what they'll do of me in terms of an exchange.

It appears the spring/shim or whatever is under the button doesn't apply enough pressure to push the button snug up against the top of the phone case. This allows play between the button and case which causes the rattle and button to feel loose.

Given some rattle and some don't it's probably a manufacturing or quality control issue.

It is not the power button. It is an internal element in the camera. My iPhone 5 does this, so did my iPhone 4 and now the 5S. You can fully depress your power button and still hear it. While the power button clearance might vary in each phone and some severe enough to add extra noise, the rattle will still exist even on phones with optimal clearance simply because the noise is coming from near the camera and perhaps to a lesser extent the vibration motor (most likely not as the 4S had a different type of motor and it still made the rattle).

Edit: just checked my retina mini and while the power button did add very little noise, the rattle was still there but more faint. It could also still be heard on the video if the device is shaken while the power button is taped down to be snug.

It's really a non issue, stop shaking your phones!

No the problem most are talking about here is the loose power button period.

Placing gum or tape on the button to apply very, very, very slight pressure stops the rattle. There may well be other sources of vibration or rattles but my 5S's the issue is the beyond any doubt the power button.

Guys. It's something that you will have to deal with. Not trying to be rude, and it bothered me at first, but like I said 98% of the phones do have this issue. I feel a little better knowing that most of then have an issue then just mine and a few others.

I agree I dealt with by returning the phone for refund. If you're happy to have a sub par unit that's your way of dealing with it.

I guess. A little story here. I had a 5s with the smallest of nicks on the touch id crystal. Took it back to best buy and they wouldn't return it. Mailed it to apple- after making a complaint to the district manager of best buy, got it back after 2 weeks just to have it sent back with the same nick. I finally got best buy to return and I now have a phone without any imperfections.

This scenario I find completely justifiable. Because how many phones had this cosmetic defect? Next to none.

I hear what you are saying. If you aren't happy with the very "common" manufacturing defect then that is the consumers choice. Just like it was my choice to not accept the nick on my phone. But unless I'm standing around shaking my phone to hear a sound, and it's a sound only my phone makes, it would probably bug me.

Two each is own.

I agree to each his own. That's the reason I don't post in threads to tell people how much of an issue something isn't if they find it an issue.

Bottom line, be it by poor design or manufacturer there really is no excuse for an expensive top of the line premium product from Apple to rattle in this way.

True. I guess it boils down to how much it bothers someone. I thought it bothered me at first, and I have OCD, but thankfully I learnt to get over it. I can't imagine going to an android or any other phone. If it effected how the phone functioned then I might hypothetically reconsider.

No rattling power button but tapping the phone you can make the vibration motor rattle as with previous iPhones.

Of course, tapping the phone makes more noise than the vibration motor tbh :p

Just got a 32gb silver iPhone 5S today. Its serial number starts with C3. The power button does make a rattling sound when I shake quite vigorously. I shook the models on display at the mobile carrier shop and they all did too.

My iPhone 4 does not "ratter" per se, but the buttons shake a bit. If I put my fingers over the buttons and shake the phone, I hear no sound at all. If I weren't in a library-quiet office, I wouldn't be able to hear even the buttons shaking.

Still rattle sound

Production Week: 45 (November)
Factory: C3

Its my third try now. I'll live with it now and will change my Phone with AC+ after 2 Years for a new refurbished one, sell it as new and buy iPhone 6.

Cheers

I just got a 32GB 5S and my power button rattles pretty bad. It even rattles when the phone vibrates as a text or something comes in. Not sure what to do with it either, keep it or exchange it?
