I just got a 32GB 5S and my power button rattles pretty bad. It even rattles when the phone vibrates as a text or something comes in. Not sure what to do with it either, keep it or exchange it?

Please leave feedback here for Apple about the issue.

Personally I'd return it if you have a remorse period and either reorder a new unit or wait a while if you can.

mine didn't rattle when it vibrated

My 5s rattles :( but only when I shake it hard

Same here, but it surprisingly doesn't bother me. Now if there were a physical defect on the phone (i.e. dent/scratch), then I would take it my local Apple Store to exchange. A slightly rattling power button is something I can live with.

Out of curiosity, what color is yours? I'm wondering if this affects only certain colors?

True. I guess it boils down to how much it bothers someone. I thought it bothered me at first, and I have OCD, but thankfully I learnt to get over it. I can't imagine going to an android or any other phone. If it effected how the phone functioned then I might hypothetically reconsider.

LOL what does being OCD have to do with it? Unless you are OCD about your phone not rattling it shouldn't matter. And if that is the case that is something very specific to be OCD about. Either way the "I"m OCD" comment really doesn't make any sense.

I find it hard to believe that a company like Apple would let a quality of design/sourcing/manufacturing issue like rattling buttons cheapen their brand. The rattle must be a figment of my imagination.

Mine rattles if I shake it. I don't shake my phone or film mount video in a vibrating car so this doesn't affect me. I would expect this to happen in a vehicle given that it does rattle by hand. Even a go-pro mounted case can rattle. You may have to tape down the buttons, or use a case that grips them if you want to use it in this way. Maybe these noisy button are a more durable design just like the clicky home button?

If it's any consolidation my friend's new M3 cup holder rattles. Give them hell, but I'm not sure this will change the trend. He fixed it with tape after the 3rd trip to the dealer.

Just noticed a "tizzing" sound during phone calls when the phone is to my ear. I thought it was due to call quality but realized certain frequencies appear to cause the power button to vibrate and it's this causing the sound. A slight pressure on the button stops the "tizzing" but the Apple leather case doesn't help. :(

Anyone else experienced this ?

Depends on what ear I use to listen for the rattle.

Left ear, rattle.
Right ear, no rattle.

Mine rattles a lot. It's a 16GB gold, DN factory & week 44.

I can live with it though. When recording a video I wont be shaking my phone like I'm shaking a maraca!

Never noticed rattle until I read this thread. I was able to elicit a faint rattle only with quite vigorous shaking.

It doesn't bother me because I don't routinely shake my phone with that degree of violence.

My son noticed his was rattling, so I tried mine out and it rattled too. I just assumed it was the counterweight for the vibration motor and left it at that. As long as I don't taking a video while shaking my phone like a maniac, I don't see the problem.

I guess I was right. Checked my phone yesterday at my Swedish operator's store to see if I'm retarded and the only guy who has a 5S that button rattles, but I was wrong. Their white 5S just as mine golden one rattled.

And they rattled both as soon as you carefully touched some times on them. And I shook my phone and theirs a bit, just a bit, and it rattled.

As someone here said, people pay a lot of money for these phones and sure we're excepting also quality. It's like buying a new Mercedes and you hear some weird noise from the gearbox or wind noise from a left or right window while driving 90 km/h (less than 60 m/h).

I'll check mine in Sunday in a bigger city to see why it's like that and also to check other 5S. And talk with the staff about this.

Please let us know what you find. My local Apple store has some units that rattle and some that don't.

I completely agree about the expectation of quality given the premium price. Have you provided feedback to Apple via the webform ? http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I strongly suggest you to DON'T vigorously shake your iPhone just to search for a non-existent problem: you may end up creating one real problem.

Does anyone have an iPhone 5s that DOESN'T rattle?

My Swedish operator tested it now in the store in my hometown, and said that it was odd and that they never even heard about this. We tested it on a white demo 5S too and it also had that issue. But he convinced me not to worry, and if becomes a real problem I'll be replaced with new one and loan temporally a 5S. He also said that he thinks it's so on every 5S and that I shall wait because I just got it in Monday. Since we don't have Apple Center in Sweden it's up to our operators to fix it. In my case they will. But I'll test some phones in Gothenburg too so I now 100%.

No I didn't but I'll take a look on that web form.

Space grey here, power button does rattle a little bit. Didn't even notice it until i read this thread, it doesn't bother me since i'm not shaking my phone.

I don't remember if my first 5s rattled, I never shook it. My second 5s rattled horribly, and I took it to the Apple store and had it replaced. It was very loud in the store and couldn't hear, but when I got home I found this one rattles too. Though not as bad as the last one.

Between the Touch ID issues (which still persist) and the quality control problems, I am very disappointed in Apple for this product. I mean, rattling buttons? That is not the kind of fit and finish I expect when buying an Apple product.

just came home with my new 5S and it rattles, as does my wife's release week 5S. my iPhone 5 its replacing doesn't rattle at all.

Same here, returning my 5S. Could not justify paying 812$ for this, even after all the hard work getting the gold one. Keeping my brand new iPhone 5 (got a free replacement thanks to Amex).
