Pickup - iPhone 4 16GB Black
- I plan to be there early regardless

I think I'm covered.

B/c you said...

The system isn't playing catch up b/c my order WAS there and now it's not. The manager I spoke with was aware of the glitch as was Apple corporate so I DO trust her. I would recommend calling your local Apple store to confirm you're still on the reserve list and if not, work something out with the store manager!

Right... ENTIRE system. Who's to say they didn't cancel all reservations in order to rebook them orderly. She didn't tell you what the glitch was, only that there was one. It could even be a coding issue.

By "catch up", I didn't mean "chronologically". I meant reflecting correct information.

Well, I do HOPE you're right. Unfortunately, I think that's a stretch.

After speaking with a manager over at Bridgewater, My reservation was indeed canceled, but he himself guarenteed me one of the two iPhones I originally reserved. Guess my fiance will be happy for a bit, while I'll stay put with my 2 year old iPhone 3G until i can get my hands on one.

A reservation only means that you are eligible to wait in line, nothing more. In theory there will be stock on hand for all who reserved but in practice there are going to be a lot of bummed people who wait until after lunch or work to get in line.

Some stores are saying there will be 2 lines which won't ever work.

If you really want a unit on launch day, you'll have to work/wait for it. There will be some stories from MR users who strolled in to BB and walked out with a phone but for every one of those, expect 10 people who spent the night in tents who didn't manage to get a phone.

Well, if you tried to reserve 2 phones under 1 ID, then that's your reason why 1 was canceled.

I got a very specific error message telling me I could only reserve one phone per Apple ID after re-trying to reserve, thinking the first one didn't go through.

So I have the reservation email and the reservation shows on my iPhone apple store app but no reservation showing online. Calling up my local store to confirm right now.

Called my local store and they confirmed they have me down for avreservation. I reserved via the iPhone app

I reserved one to pick up at my local Apple store. Got the confirmation email. According to the email, the Apple Store will hold it until the close of business. (24th)

Does you guys think the reserve holds are guaranteed an iPhone at lunch?

Thanks all,

Arc:)

I was very leery of just doing a reservation yesterday. I spent most of the day trying to get an order through to have it shipped to my house. I almost gave up thinking I would just come to a store on launch day and get a reserved one. I finally got my order to go through.

I'm afraid that there will be many disappointed people on launch day who reserved a phone thinking it will be there waiting for them. If I had a reservation, I would show up super early to get in line. Anybody who thinks that they will just saunter into the store on their lunch break and pick their phone up may be in for an unpleasant surprise. Given all of the mayhem yesterday, I think it's a legitimate worry.

With all the pre-order craziness yesterday I ended up with one email confirmed reservation on the 24th at two different Apple Stores. What is the likelihood I could get the discounted price on both? Assuming the reservations actually mean anything and I'll physically be able to get both?

0%. They use the at&t activation system. Once you go to the 2nd store and they go to activate it they will see you're no longer eligible for the discounted price.

Cool story and all, but that's not what my confirmation email nor my Apple location states.

It also doesn't state that you can gingerly walk in and pick up the phone without waiting in line for hours. Remember that your reservation did not charge you anything or enter any info into AT&T's system. This will all have to be done on the spot before you can walk away with a phone. It's not a cash register exchange, they have to hit AT&T's server, confirm eligibility, rate plans, etc. just like the 3GS launch. I doubt it is a total trainwreck but I also suspect it will be slow and due to the reservation snafu, I doubt they turn many away who claim to have reserved. Translation, they could run out of phones in some locations.

well it depends on how you want to look at it, there is a finite number of people buying on launch day, and no one knows how many are having orders shipped. so you can take those people out of the equation. while no doubt there will be people waiting in line, at the stores it won't be as bad as some are making it out to be simply because there is already going to be a large chunk of people waiting f or packages at home

Dammit! I thought I was good. I have an email printout saying it's reserved even though my name nor price is on there, then I check the Apple App which says my reservation is good for the store I chose, so I click on the link provided here and I have NO RESERVATION!!!

I call the Apple store that I reserved it at. They said to call back in an hour because their system is down and they cannot check it. I asked what would they do if I don't have it reserved even though I have the printout. He said they WOULD NOT HONOR IT!!! He said if it's not in their system, then basically too bad. F**K you Apple!!!

reread the thread the link posted is for genius/personal shopping appointments, not pre-orders/pre-launch reservations, as long as the app is showing your reservation you are fine, if that disappears then you can be upset. though there really isn't much to be upset about, no money has changed hands. worst case is you talk to a store manager and you get one from the next days shipment

I know no money has changed hands, and of course I'm upset because I'm afraid they will not honor my email or the Apple App reservation because he basically said there is nothing they will do about it if it's not there. I'm trying to stay calm until their system is back up, but if they are not able to reserve it like it's supposed to be, I guess I'll be calling Best Buy to see what they can do.

the app store is looking up the info from the same list they look it up from, if it is there then you have a reservation, why is that so hard to understand

1) I got no error during the reservation process
2) I got a confirmation email with two iPhones listed on it
3) There was no where listed that you can only reserve 1 iPhone per ID.

But it doesn't matter because I am guaranteed one.

- reserved online 6/15
- got confirmation email
- showing confirmed on iPhone apple app store
- had store employee validate reservation in person

he said we will have donuts and fun on the 24th ;)

Where do you see the confirmation on the apple store app?

ok just called to confirm and my name was on the list.. thank god!:D

But thanks goes to the op and other posters for bringing this to our attention. I will probably confirm one more time before launch just to be on the safe side though. Good luck!!!:apple:

Damn this thread for makin me worry even though I never received a cancellation email

So I called my store and the worker said I have 2 reserved under my name.

Turns out the first reservation I did went through but I didn't trust it because of the whole "cannot connect to AT&T but please select store" screen.

So I tried again and got through after 1231564651231 attempts.. this time with my AT&T plan showing.

The worker said since I have 2 under my name I can either purchase it or bring a friend along who wants one

Team LATE NITE RESERVING FTW

I just spoke with my local Apple store and my reserve is in the system. Whew! What a relief! Now I can be excited!!!!!!!!!

Having just gone through this for the iPad i can tell you that the system works. They will have two lines, one reserved and one for non- reserved. They will also have two sets of stock for the reserved and non- reserved. They will move the reserve line first, early and often, well before the non- reserves get in. Non reserves do not have access to the reserve stock -- that stock will be held until close of business.

In-store activation for the 3GS was quick and painless on launch day.

The only true activation pain was for the first iPhone where we all ran hone and literally hit the servers at exactly the same time. Having reserved stock pretty well guarantees that activation will be staggered throughout the day as people cone to get their phones at different times.

I think it is a good idea for people to double check via the store app to make sure there is a reservation there. It's also fair to say there will be a line, probably a long one, even for reserves. But my bet is that the two line system will work the same way it did for the iPad -- which went very very well! I was in line at the flagship Boston storer an hour before the opening bell and was in the store and activated within ten minutes! For sure this will be more complex and time consuming but hey it's a party at the apple store on launch day!!!

So everyone enjoy the crowds and the lines and the doughnuts!! PAR-TAY!

Ok, I have seen a lot of misinformation is this thread, specifically a lot of people saying the reserve in store is not a guarantee and you better get to the store super early etc....

So being that this is a ongoing forum and recalling that their were reserves for last years 3GS orders I did a search and looked up wht happened last year.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/720946/

You can go hear and see at the end of the thread there were a couple of people who pouted their actual experience. One guy said he went in to the store at like 6PM after work and strolled out with his phone. This was despite him hearing earlier that they were "all sold out" of his model. Another user stated that their store held the reserves as well for customers till the end of the day.

If you read through the rest of the posts, you can see a lot of the same stuff we have seen in this very thread. For example, the line that says "pre-authorization does not guarantee phone availability" has nothing to do with the reserves we all made. This is to do with a separate process that Apple developed I think after the first iPhone launch. This process allowed people to go online and pre-authorize their account to be eligible for the iPhone, so that when they came to the store, the checkout process would go much quicker. Again, NOT to do with reservations at all.

Finally, I know I showed people in another thread here how to check reservation status. Later I found out that this way will only allow you to see how to check your reservations for the genius bar ONLy. It does not allow you to see reservations for products in the store. I know this because I reserved and iPad for pickup at my apple store, and this history does not show up here at all. However, my genius bar appointments from the past do show up. So basically, just check your status by the Apple Store iphone app.

Hope this clears some stuff up.
