I see the lovely Dianne Feinstein has come out against Apple. So far the only one in tech to support Apple is the former CEO of Whatsapp. Sad.

So my statement was based on voting for president solely on one principle of what he stands for. I disagree about publicly funded education equating with asking for a handout, but that's neither here nor there; it wasn't the point of my comparison. I don't feel a person should vote simply based on one bullet point, but I'm aware many do. God Bless America.

As much as I hate it - I've become a single issue voter this time around.

Nothing else matters if my career is going down the toilet.

If Trump wins, I have a chance to get a good paying job in a fair job market. If Bernie wins, at least I'll have a union protected 40 hour a week programming job making half of what I would normally make. But I like what I do so it doesn't matter to me. I don't want to work 60-80 hours a week in a "last man standing" infighting crap storm work environment like Amazon.

Older, higher skilled workers like myself with (software design and architecture experience (not just coding)) have been forced into these “last man standing” battles for those coveted positions. Most cheap foreign workers usually are not as skilled and cannot do those higher skilled jobs, so all that work goes to a limited number of more experienced, higher paid staff. Those who have been lucky enough to survive this far with a design/architecture job often work 60-80+ hours per week out of fear of loosing that job - infighting for those positions is just about at a “postal” level in most software companies.

I get many calls and go on many interviews, but they are "all day" grill sessions that are focused ONLY on coding. Search the internet for “coding interview horror stories” to educate yourself. I usually do fairly well on these interviews, but because the foreign workers are coached so heavily on JUST coding, they also do very well - so my presence at these interviews just justifies hiring an H-1B when they can do just as well on “white board coding” problems as I can (with my 25+ years experience). BUT - no one asks the harder design and architecture questions anymore - they can’t because that’s where the H-1B candidate will fall short.

Again, Bernie wants to cut everyone's pay in half - I'm already there so I don't give a rip if everyone else also takes the same haircut...

The order was to open the encryption on one specific iPhone belonging to known terrorist scumbags. This doesn't give the government the "keys to the encrypted kingdom", as it were.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the recent legislation presented to restrict all phone encryption.

That's one of the points that Apple is trying to make:

  • you can't guarantee allowing opening the encryption to a single phone without compromising other phones
  • you can't give access to gov without compromising the "entire kingdom".

For encryption, a backdoor for one is a back door for all... it's a dangerous precedent.

I can't wait for the Chinese gov to say "hey Apple, we demand backdoor access all your users data or else you can't do business here... we know you can do it, you did it for the US government"... we need it to protect us against "terrorism".

"And ultimately, we fear that this demand would undermine the very freedoms and liberty our government is meant to protect."

You really believe that is the purpose of the Federal Government, Tim? The propaganda machine is indeed working effectively.

Yet we pay into Social Security. You know that social program that distributes wealth... Or how about we get rid of all social services like Child Protection, and Public Education.

That's a very good idea. We can eliminate common core and all of the federal influence into our school systems and curriculum. Currently they are teaching the hate America apologist philosophy to our kids. Return the power locally and get the feds out of everything. Consolidation of power at Washington is turning out to be just as bad as being ruled by England. You just feel like you are powerless to make change. When you can go knock on their door or run into your representative at the gas pump, you can have a more direct influence in the leadership of you community.

Trump is crazy. I pity you if he becomes a president of the United States. It will become a very dangerous world to live in.

The current president also supports Trump's position, as does Clinton. So you should start feeling sorry for us already.

The software created to open this one iPhone could be used to open any iPhone. That's the point Apple is making and the point the government is either missing or being deliberately disingenuous about.

Apple can easily unlock this phone and hand it over to the Feds without revealing any deencryption secrets or tools. This phone wasn't even owned by the terrorist, it was given to him by his employer, the state of California. The phone is government property.

Tim Cook is indirectly assisting terrorists by not complying with the order. Cook can fight it, that is his right. He may have to fight it from jail, and he probably should. I'm all for individual privacy. Apple can comply with with the order and still protect everyone's right to encrypted privacy.

IMO, Tim Cook is doing this not to protect privacy, but to protect his market share. The outrage from Apple patrons would be high and sales would certainly suffer if he complies right away. He will eventually cave and the spin machine at Apple will make it seem like Cook is some crusader for privacy rights. He is driven by the stocks and the almighty dollar, that's it.

What makes you think Apple can break the encryption.

I work "in the industry". But let's just call it a hunch.

Dianne Feinstein is a senile moron who belongs in hospice care, not in any position of power.

also, "terrorism" is the most loaded and propagandized word of the 21st century. The sheer mention of the word is enough for many to simply fall at the feet of anyone who utters it. Fact: The govt has killed more americans in the past year than ISIS has.

2 days later: "Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of iPhones being used in the United States until Apple can figure out what the hell is going on!" LOL, that or something like it :p

They already have iCloud data, text messages, computers, and multiple flash drives from the shooters.

I figure the FBI is just using this case as a way to get support for the public for backdoors because there is nothing the data on the iPhone can tell the FBI that the FBI doesn't know already.

What's important to remember is that Apple gave the FBI access to everything that exists and still gave the FBI additional forensic advice.

That fact alone makes this look even more like a backdoor fishing expedition by the FBI.

Nope - Voting for government paid education is asking for a handout.

Demanding government not allow the undercutting of high skill wages is a sound market principle.

The H-1B visa abuse situation has decimated my profession because it allows undercutting the price of high value job skills - market principals dictate that when demand for something goes up, so should its price. Even Sanders understands this. So even though I'm a "Milton Friedman" conservative, I'll vote with the students for Bernie before Cruz, Clinton, or Rubio.

Bill Clinton took 260k from the Indian outsourcing firm HCL to give a speech - so Hillary is also bought and paid for....

If your job is decimated because of H-1B, then it just means you're untalented enough so that some hack from India can take your job.

If you want to keep earning income, you need to have talent.

High-End experts don't get replaced by H-1B workers.

Tim Cook has said the easy, popular opinion. I'd like to see what his response would be if one of the victims' families spoke out against him. Would Cook say "Your dead kids don’t trump my constitutional rights"*?

* quoted from Joe the Plumber talking about the 2nd Amendment

"We have to use common sense..."

Right. Donald... seriously. While I agree with that concept, you haven't a clue what common sense is.

This is mind boggling.

Not really. What he neglected to note is that fully 3 of 5 gun deaths in the US are a result of suicide. Also, virtually all of the deplorable incidents of mass killing occurs in places were firearm prohibitions are posted. If someone wants to murder loads of people, they go to where people are defenceless; a person intent on committing murder immediately doesn't care about gun laws or any sort of law. You can only be executed or sentence to life in prison once.

This is dead wrong. Companies look to save money any place they can.

Way to miss the point completely.

LOL, maybe because ISIS is in Syria and the Levant, not the USA.

Not if it means hiring hackers who are going to produce crap. Unless you're Microsoft in the 90s-2000s...
