Donald Trump Criticizes Apple for Opposing iPhone 'Backdoor' Order: 'Who Do They Think They Are?'

All the leading Presidential candidates support encryption backdoors for government use except Bernie.

Trump is being singled out because he's loud. But it's a pretty common position, especially given that the default establishment position is to support law enforcement.

What a horrible precedent to set. So any time the American government decides it needs access to a person's device, they just need to come up with a justification for it, and they will now have legal precedent to grant them access? Scary. Because we allllll know that the government acts with nothing but honesty and integrity and would never abuse this ruling to satisfy their own needs or agenda. :S

I sure hope you're being sarcastic...do you really think people, the general population, are worried about Mexican people coming to this country to live and work in order to provide a better life for their families? The fact that they're for the most part getting paid less than minimum wage (illegally) and have to work several jobs just to get by - is that threatening to you for some reason? Or do you think they're sucking from the system, when there are no statistics to prove that out and more that prove they put more into the system than they take? Do you even realize that Obama has removed more aliens than George W. did?

And as far as education goes, we've cut funding so many times, on so many levels, it's not some liberal agenda that is effecting education, but rather the cuts that have been made forces schools and teachers to just get kids pushed out the door.

If Trump is elected, my wife and I will be moving out of the country. We don't want to be a part of Trump's "greater America" because it sounds more like Adolf Hitler's pre-WWII Germany to us.

I guess that you have no idea of how the American system works.
 
I keep on thinking why this is an issue. There are third party engineering houses that can play merry hell with an iPhone to get the data. There are very exotic third party tools our there that can extract data from the flash memory. Once you have that image, place it in the slew of NSA supercomputers for a few months.

I agree. Just like we have a history of being a racist country. Before the Mexicans it was the Japanese or Chinese or Irish. And don't forget about the Natives and black people.

I think the analogy here is the bank having a master key and using it to open the safe if presented with a court order, not the bank giving a master key to the government and a key to the backdoor and saying come in any time you like even if you don't have a warrant. The first is fine, the second is not.
 
Why are comments available on this Story? I though Macrumors has a strict policy of not enabling comments on stories that are of a political nature?
 
This is when I remember Apple used to be in the news for making the best tools. Now it's in the news just for politics, lobbying, fashion watches, teen wearables, and bullying awareness. And management keep their chair. No comment.

The master key could be replicated and fall into the wrong hands.

I'd bet just about ANYTHING I own Donald would rally for this violation of privacy and civil liberties to pass then the split second it bites him ( or his friends/supporters/cronies/family etc ) in the but pull a 180 and be a hypocrite.


I'm sure he's capable of hypocrisy.

Trump is only running as a Republican because that gets him more attention. He's supported just about every non-Republican platform until recently. He would run in the "Opportunist" party if one existed. I have no idea of his true values other than that he values getting attention for himself.

I think if this was possible it would have already been done. No need to alert the news about an incredible useful hack.

Adjusting my tin foil hat now... If the NSA already has the iOS source code it wouldn't need Apple to design a new Ipsw. This gives me hope that even if the NSA has the source it still can't defeat Apple's security implementation.

The proper analogy is the government asking the manufacturer of the safes to redesign them with a weak lock that can be picked more easily.
