Was able to downgrade an iPad 2 an hour ago.

No, once you go to ios 8, all of your data will depend on ios 8. You can't use that data on ios 7

Gah. That's a drag.

It's only Messages I need to get onto my iPhone if I downgrade to 7.1.2 - everything else (apps, mail, music, photos) I can sync from iTunes.
