Apple please ask yourselves "Are we TV producers, or do we make amazing tech products and software?"

They used to be a computer company, 2007 became a consumer company, 2016 music, cars, tv etc etc... And sadly too many bugs in the software with the accelerated yearly OS updates :(

Dre would shine as Othello.
Angela Airhead as Desdemona.
Eddy Cue as Iago.
And Walt Mossberg as Cassio.
Lights, camera, action!

It is the cause, it is the cause, my soul,—
Let me not name it to you, you chaste stars!—
It is the cause. Yet I'll not shed her blood;
Nor scar that whiter skin of hers than snow,
And smooth as monumental alabaster.
Yet she must die, else she'll betray more men.

Violence and orgies in an Apple Tv show, oh my...
But at least he'll finally do something at Apple. Probably the thing he can do best.
[doublepost=1455314659][/doublepost]*and all of that while girls in bikinis are prohibited on the App Store.

Actually when it comes to orgies, Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut does it better and with cinematic class. Apple nor Dre could even touch that level of Kubrick's work.

Point being is that no matter how hard they go for an R or X rating, it's going to alienate certain consumers.

I don't think it's a hoax since its been going around on the news circuit.

After all, all projects have to be approved by Cook. He gave it a green light which shows the level of hypocrisy coming from him.

Apple in da hood homies!

I wanted to use the <puke> emoji after the above, but Apple censored it. Deny me my emoji, but they can make an adult drama fit for BET.

So much emphasis on Dre, an admitted abuser of women, is Apple pushing this cultural shift because it is suffering in its penetration of the black customer demographic?

What's next, porn flicks on iTunes?

What's wrong with Apple lately? It's beginning to lose it's focus. I don't know if greed is the driving factor because they clearly are trying to find more ways to make money?

Secondly the hiring of Dre and buying out Beats in my opinion was a terrible idea from the start. Beats aren't actually known for quality at least not by Audiophiles.

And the people defending this nonsense are funny to me, It may or may not be a successful business model for Apple. But I certainly don't think it will benefit us as consumers of their products. In fact I think theres a higher chance we'll see quality or innovation deteriorate from the company.

It's like they are following the ways of Microsoft, trying too hard to do many things good instead of doing one thing great.

I have been more and more upset with the recent divergence of Apple into a media company as it has seriously watered down their efforts in computers (I include phones etc) and software development. But this!!! This takes the cake and could send me to the Dark Side. Dre is a thug and I will not buy into a company that promotes him as some kind of hero. Steve must be turning in his grave :-(

The racist tones in this thread and any thread that mentions Dr. Dre and apple is nauseating. Sorry to break the news but the user base of Apple is not some white hipster with a beanie. All types of people use apple products but ever since apple purchased Beats theres been all sorts of nasty stuff said.

As far as I've read into this thread, people are complaining about Dr. Dre's abuse allegations and the explicit nature of this television series, which seems to not fit in with Apple's usual image of being more family friendly as a debut series, regardless of his race.

Can't wait for the Cooking with Cook show.

What's Cooking at Apple?!
Starring Tim Cook

Dre's worth a billion dollars and wears big boy pants.

Stooping to new lows via a more hypocritical move than ever before, Apple seems desperate. Anything to be perceived as contemporary and relevant the aging company and its decidedly vanilla executives are out of their element. Surely the orgy sex scenes are purposely created to draw attention to Apple. This from the company that censors the words one can type with the iOS keyboard...

I can't say I've seen any reference to race in this thread other than yours. What's with the White Hipster reference? I don't like Dre for what he has done not for the color of his skin. And as for Apple. Their non stop rush into becoming a media company is sad and hurtful to their core business which is making great technology not bad movies.

Let's be honest. If this was a new series starring some A list actor like Leo or Bale, everyone would be singing a much different tune. There would be so much praise for Apple creating movie/tv content not criticism.

Apple is a human interaction design company that makes tools for everyone. The brand should be neutral. It should not show preference towards one thing or another.

I have concerns about their idea to make content. They were traditionally toolmakers, not enforcers of social tastes. We buy iPhones to navigate the world. iPads to write our next film script. Macs to build software and design the future.

I really disagree with their idea to use Dr. Dre as their debut film. He appeals to a very narrow demographic, which itself is showing bias or preference towards one market over another. Content should be relatable to everyone.

I'm sorry what? Apple has not been a neutral company for a while, if ever. Your reality distortion field needs to be checked.

Wozinak and Jobs were very counter-culture so that's not neutral that's essentially hitching the wagon to a dogma of some type.

Dr Dre appeals to a bigger demographic than you may think. Don't think just because one doesn't listen to his music that he doesn't appeal to a mass demographic. How do you explain the success of his Beats brand? Does everyone who ever bought a beats headphone listen to Dre? Of course not, he built a reputation and a brand that allowed him to transcend appeal to a single demographic.

I sincerely doubt that Apple is about to release anything with an orgy scene. Granted Sense8 had one and it was amazing. But I confess the whole buying Beats thing still confuses me. The headphones have a fine looking design, especially now that they're done in more subtle colours. But 3 billion for Beats seems like Iovine managed to sell the company better than reality. I suspect he spends most of his day shmoozing other industry execs in the music space. I'm really not sure what Dre brings to the table. Though I get the sense that some of the Apple execs were fans of his music, and they don't get that hip hop isn't something that you really want heavily associated with Apple's brand.

I like some hip hop and rap artists. I enjoy the show Empire. But I don't identify with it, when I listen to music I listen to rock, folk, ska, punk, all kinds of stuff but very little hip hop. Now does Apple have a lot of customers who like hip hop? Probably. But they should be able to look at the genres of music that people buy and see how many people don't largely identify with that.

Apple has a HUGE market as a high end brand, and they've really managed to cross all sorts of demographic boundaries. But this sort of program sounds much more like it would make the brand more niche than it would expand it. Netflix started their original content push with House of Cards which was a clever political drama. It was classy. Then they branched out into drama and comedy with shows like Orange is the New Black, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmit, Grace and Franky, and horror like Hemlock Grove. Not everything has been a huge hit, but most of it has been pretty good and they've done a bunch of genres.

But realistically, a show with a black lead has to be REALLY good to get people to notice. I'm not saying that's right. (it's wrong) But it's true. And at least from what the rumour is suggesting, I think it'll cause more harm in backlash if it doesn't hit it out of the park, than it'll reap benefits.

I think the wiser choice would have been a compelling drama or a comedy first, and then something gritty.
