I'm kind of pissed I've been paying the apple premium for the past 10 years for them to blow money on crap like this. Apple is losing touch.

On the other side of that coin, I couldn't be happier considering Sam Rockwell is involved and he doesn't participate in crap projects...something must've made him come on board.

So I don't think Apple is losing touch...I just think they are excited about their new demographic that they have completely come in touch with. But then, maybe you see the demographic that would enjoy this show as beneath you. I don't know.

You people sound really old and conservative and irrelevant.

Old, conservative, white, racist, ignorant. Pick any. You name it. Etc. Welcome to the demographics of MR.

These comments are silly. And, who said anything about race? Besides you?

I do wish Apple would get into the ISP business, though, as current ISPs seem to limit Apple's hardware capabilities.

I think Apple did get into the ISP business back when I first started using Macs in the 90's. I think it was over priced, and eventually failed. I think it was called eWorld, or iWorld, or something else.....

I think Apple moving into production, especially for streaming isn't a bad idea. Depending on how it's distributed.

What I think is silly is thta unlike other original content producers, like Netflix, and now Youtube, They are not featuring their own executives as actors / directors / autobiographies.

By having their first show being a piece around Dre, his history and life, while he's an executive of Apple, feels more like Apple trying to Appease him and make him feel important, and likely help promote the Apple brand first. Like they're selling glorified "beats by dre" commercials.

Thats not something that the other new content providers are doing. Youtube Red is letting their users do whatever content, and is just funding it.
Netflix is buying licensing for original titles for exclusive launches.

But none of these are featuring their own executives.

Thats why I used the Term earlier "Masturbation". They're doing this because they can. It feels like a bunch of billionares who are making a commercial and calling it 'art' and patting eachother on the back rather than giving real new or up-and-coming artists a platform.

edit:

META

thats the term I'm thinking of here. Apple's first show is META to the Apple world. which feels weird.

A bit of irony (I know that the same thing) since Cook called the latest Jobs movie a money grab.

I mean, it could also just be response to the fact that Straight Outta Compton was one of the most profitable films of the year in relation to budget, and one of the top 5 highest ranked/reviewed films of the year as well. Even Steven Spielberg was 100% confused as to how it wasn't nominated for film of the year, and said it blew him and his wife away.

Why wouldn't they capitalize on the fact that there are MANY side stories in his life that the younger demographic are aware of and would love to see reflected via digital media?

I know I will be watching, and considering the 50 likes so far that my status got on posting about this series on Facebook like 20 minutes ago I'm fairly certain the younger generations are going to eat this up, myself included.

I think the subject matter is interesting. I'm still waiting to see Straight outa Compton.
But the same thing Applies to any auto-biography being directed by the person whose life it's about. It feels self masturbatory.

That rubs me the wrong way I guess.

Violence and orgies in an Apple Tv show, oh my...
But at least he'll finally do something at Apple. Probably the thing he can do best.
[doublepost=1455314659][/doublepost]*and all of that while girls in bikinis are prohibited on the App Store.

Then you've probably missed all the explicit lyric songs and all the movies/TV shows currently available on the Apple TV that have sex, violence AND orgies.

That counts too.
In general it's a hypocrisy and a pretty weird message when you prohibit even the slightest form of nudity, but allow plain violence with games and shows of people killing people and heads exploding.

Dre sure likes to big himself up. He takes narcissism to a whole new level. Wasn't a film and a radio show where he's constantly showered with praise enough?

He has done some not great things in his past (and other things that are alleged), things that are completely counter to Apple's brand, and the more he's given a stage to celebrate his past, the more these skeletons in his closet will knock at the door. And by association, Apple's brand will be tarnished for effectively endorsing him. To a larger extent, any artist they choose to promote this much is a danger to them.

I have no problem with Apple getting into the content game per se, though it does open them to more branding risk. But it does makes strategic sense for their TV platform. But making this the first project seems like a bad idea, no matter how well Compton did at the box office.

Why is it that Apple keep mentioning Dr. Dre? It's like some kind of propaganda....like historical UNCLE TOM.

I think continuing to give him a platform is dangerous for Apple though. Its very strange for a top executive at a company to make his own tv show about himself.

This is a prime example of why Tim Cook should step back into his previous role of COO and let someone with a god damn vision control the juggernaut. Simply spray and prey is not a strategy that works for very long. Eventually you run out of ammo while the others are just getting started.

Dump the idea to introduce your own vehicle, buy tesla and give Elon Musk the control of the company. Stop believing everything you touch is pure gold. Elon is creative, passionate, insane, demanding, rapacious... sounds an awful lot like someone else.
