Honestly after I've finally gotten myself though my Orzammar dilemma, I had installed KOTOR (Steam) and now I've installed the Star Wars Collection from Steam and I'm getting hopelessly obsessed with SW TOR and occasionally distracted with Mass Effect 2 (Xbox). Then there is the real game-play enemy, learning to play a guitar, yes an electric guitar! I need to get back into and finish DAO before I forget what I was doing there!

LOL! Well, I hope you'll finish up DA:O game some day. :D

I bought KOTOR on STEAM when it was first released for $9.99. I started playing it on my older PC, but have yet to download it again for my new one. Now you have me interested! ANd why does SW:TOR have to be an MMO. :( :)

Also check out Jade Empire, just to throw in another game to you already busy schedule. I bought the SE version for $19 at Frys.

I'm not done with Mass Effect 2 either. I've been swamped with work and the only games I've been playing are just a quick WC3 mod game with friends.

Anyways, just rambling, to make things worse, I bought Monster Hunter Tri last night just for the black controller, so that's another game I'll have to play.

My God, you changed your classic avatar. I'll miss it... I know, you can always change it back. ;)

Thank-ew.

Well, what exactly did you have against MMOs?- I forget. If it's not the subscription maybe it's the fact that you'll always be left behind by the uber players who live on the game 24/7? My interest in MMOs has always been to experience the game, experience the world, not to be number one or I would have been a miserable failure. My interest in Wow was enjoying a virtual world with real people running around in it and to enjoy small party ops now and then while tossing magic all over!! WoW met that expectation wonderfully and it is an amazing place to explore. I loved practically every zone I stepped into. I must be careful or I'll blather on about it...

Ok, it's back. :)

I was just frustrated with some of the ... few that are pretty hateful and B&W with their opinions on this site. :]

Nothing agains MMOs, I'm just afraid of devoting the time they require, mainly because I'd probably get sucked into it and there are soooooo many things I'd like to do. :O I like the idea of what they represent, but for the most part I prefer single player games for a personal experience, because I know they have a set end-goal and short multiplayer games for the fun of playing with others -- so games like L4D or Dota as an example.

Anyways, I'm mainly worried I'd never get anything done if I joined WoW or one of these other MMOs. My friend's family started playing WoW at release, he stopped after a year, but his 3 older brothers have not! We used to all play Warcraft 3 mods, now it's just them playing WoW all the freaking time.

Sorry, I'm rambling.

OK, about this game, which sucked me in, I finally installed Awakening and upgraded DA:O to 1.03. I'm hoping to get back into the groove after I finish a project this month.

Yeah!

That sounds like an honest assessment. When in a stand alone solo game you go at your own pace. With a MMO, the current of 1000 other people progressing in the game world and leaving you somewhat behind could be the large sucking drain that pulls you down, or maybe not. Alot depends on the game. As I know I've mentioned many times, Planetside was the perfect MMO in this regard, you could play when you wanted and were never left behind.

Another thing, which I think I've ramble about before, is that I view MMOs like amusement parks, where as I'm just another person standing in-line to do the same task so many have done before me. It's fun to be part of, but being there really doesn't change anything.

I like games where as I have an effect on the outcome, which is another reason I like single player games. And yeah, going at my own pace is definitely a major factor of why I prefer them overall.

And one last thought about MMOs. There are tons of other people, which is awesome, but nobody is really a character in the game, so talking to a stranger who's one of those cow-people in WoW as an example, would be like talking to someone in a forum.

Anyways, just rambles.

All valid points if they bug you. Most MMOs are static. One of my fantasies is a dynamic world. However as I say this I realize that in a dynamic MMO, most likely it would be someone other than me making the big impact on the world. Regarding your last point, that is why you'd join a Role Playing Server... ;)

Yeah, that would be my case also, someone else would be taking the glory if these worlds truly were dynamic and I were part of it. :)

On the role playing part, I made the mistake of joining a Pirate forum once. Some people take these things really really realllly serious. I used to role play with friends when I was younger -- yes I'm a nerd -- anyways, I was never good at it. I like games like Dragon Age, because I don't have to talk, just read and respond based on choices. I'm in my own world.

But those role playing servers sound kind of creepy. :D

It's just staying in character. When I played a female in WoW and someone helped me, I'd say something like "thank you kind sir". Usually staying in character. Of course then the guy paid me to strip down to my undies (as a night elf, the hottest female character in the game) and dance in a fountain with him... I might have been role playing a loose woman, except that was as far as it could go. Usually I can tell when someone gets serous, as far as they think they might be playing with a real girl. They ask and I pop their bubble and apologize, have never misled anyone. ;)

So you were playing World of Whorecraft. :p *I KID* :D

Yep, misleading could lead to awkwardness.

Speaking of role playing, I had no idea that there were books released for Dragon Age, including a game masters book.

One time I played GTA4 online with a female avatar, just for fun, just free-roaming. Some dude started flirting with me and kept calling me "honey" over the messaging system. (wasn't using a headset) Things got a little awkward when I told him I'm actually a 30 year old guy.

Imagine how much different online worlds would be if people were forced to use avatars that looked like just like them. Probably wouldn't be enough space to fit more than three or four chubby mages on the screen at the same time.

LOL! That would certainly make things interesting. :)

One of my friends is overweight and somewhat short and he always plays a fat dwarf if the option is available.

hey guys, i need some advice. :) after i finish my finals in the upcoming weeks, i want to purchase dragon age origins, but not sure if i should get it for my macbook pro or my ps3. i'm leaning towards getting it for my ps3, since i'm worried about my macbook pro's performance. however, i would like to download some mod's for dragon age too. what do you guys recommend?

My MPB runs the game just fine however I'm running on Vista/Bootcamp. See specs in my signature. I don't know if mods are available for the console version of the game like it is for the PC version. There is a rumor that DAUpdater is not included in the Mac version of the game. If you've not looked at it all ready there is a blurb on manually installing mods in the MacRumors DAO Quick and Dirty Guide which I'd expect you'd have to do on the Mac version of the game.

Need your insight

Hey guys,

Just wondering does anyone know at what graphics level Dragon Age:Origins will run on My 13' MBP 2.4 Ghz Nvidia Geforce 320m, 4GB RAM? And does anybody know whether or not there is any difference to the Mac version and the Windows Version of the game? Thanks :apple:

DAO runs on medium settings on my hardware. The Windows version has a utility for installing mods. I believe mods on the Mac version can be manually installed. See the MacRumors DAO guide for some info on mods, but might be out of date.

I finalllllly finished Dragon Age:Origins last night and will be starting to play Awakenings tomorrow. Once I've beaten that, do you guys think it's worth playing through again to do opposite quest paths? Choose elves over werewolves that kind of thing?

You could also play all of the DLC packs...

So, I've considered purchasing the Mac version. I have a 2.26ghz Mac Mini with the 9400m and 4gb of RAM. Can I even expect playable frame rates with settings turned down? I have Bioshock, and I was able to have it relatively playable while still retaining decent detail settings. Can I do so with DA?

Hey

How well does this game run on Parallels desktop? I'm thinking about upgrading my Parallels desktop to latest version and I wanna try this game out.

thanks

From what I have read, so long as you have a decent Dual Core Mac it should work fine.

We know that the PC version performs better than the Mac - which it inherently must because the Mac version has a Cider wrapper. The question becomes - which has a greater penalty - Cider or Parallels? Previously it was Parallels by a *lot* but now ... not so clear.

^I'm still deciding whether to play on bootcamp or give it a try on parallels first. I think I will go with current parallels v5 for now and see how that goes. I don't really use windows on my mac so not sure if it's good idea to upgrade to v6 just for this game. bit off-topic but tbh i found v4 to be much better. I think elder scrolls oblivion was much better on v4 than v5.
