I didn't want this to be my first post, but here we go...

Sad to say...

The irony of all of this is that I just got the Zagg HD shield installed on my iPhone 5 last night by Best Buy Mobile. They told me that I should keep my phone out of its case for 24 hours.

Well, I have been home all day and left the house to go to the store briefly. It's raining... on my way inside back into the house... I dropped my phone.

Here it is in all of its glory. SAD day. It took a fall without my case on it. :( Damaged pixels on the screen. I upgraded from the 3GS, I really thought that this wouldn't have happened. Bummer.

:( That looks sad.

Maybe ask a genius to replace it for free. :)

Tell them Apple Maps took you to some weird highway you've never been before and suddenly a truck carrying the latest Samsung Galaxy S3 shipment hit you...Causing your phone to fly out of your hand and onto the highway pavement thus creating this HORRIBLE mess...

You should have the co-worker pay for this. Why didn't you make the co-worker pay for it?

Duh me tu stooped tu read more then won paragraff.

Just tell them it came out of the box like that.

I don't think you can't do that. If Applecare+ is purchased after the phone is in hand, you have to take it to an Apple store to have it viewed by them before they will add it.

When I bought my iPhone 5 on launch day, the Apple employee told me the same thing. I just bought it on the spot.

Sounds like an awkward situations. You probably won't get another iPhone until their new shipment because its such high demand, however the new replacement fee is 200$ I believe but sometimes apple can be nice an wave it.

I would HATE to be the co worker just thinking about having to see you everyday and knowing I broke your brand new phone lol
Sounds very awkward hahahhaha

******. Since they have stock reserved for "replacement only" situations I wonder if they'll simply let you hand over the damaged phone for the "replacement only" phone immediately. Those replacement phones I would assume are brand new, given the time iPhone 5s have been on the market.

Man I must have extremely good luck or something. Cause I've dropped all of my phones multiple times on concrete, tile, etc. and have never had cracked screen or anything.

Because they are nice and sometimes they do that. Nobody is expecting anything, but it happens.

Well it's this type of attitude that leads to apple products costing more. It should not happen, cusse honest customers pay more cause whiners believe that apple should give them a replacement just cause its apple.

Sad thing is I have seen it in store. Sorry but they pathetic selfish individuals will harass the apple staff and when the refuse to leave, they usually get thier way cause apple does not want a scene instore .

OP you dropped your phone tough. If you crash your new car would you expect a new one???? No, so why harass an apple employee?? Sometime you need to toughen up and accept accidents happen .

I said nobody expects it but it happens. How does that attitude lead to anything? This is Apple's business plan and it's already built into the cost. It has nothing to do with the attitude of the consumer.

Sad thing is pathetic selfish indivuduals that think they are better than everyone else and make assumptions of others. Nobody is making a scene in the store or even hinting at doing so. Nobody here is telling the OP that he deserves a new phone and he should go in and demand it. We are only following the lead put forth by Apple; ask kindly and take what they offer. They may offer a free exchange, it may be a $199 exchange, they may tell him sorry and buy another at full price; but don't kid yourself that anybody but Apple and it's employees are setting those policies and making that call.

No, as I said nobody expects anything. But Apple has chosen as part of their business to have a high level of customer service that goes beyond what anybody should reasonably expect. Apple is buying our loyalty. This is not a decision that the consumer made or an attitude or expectation of the consumer. This is how Apple has chosen to do business so get off your high horse.

Edit: to be clear, yes people do go in with an attitude of entitlement and that is wrong...but that's not what is being addressed in this thread and your painting the situation like that's what is happening is 100% wrong.

Did you use a discover card or American Express card to buy the phone? They sometimes have 90 day damage/theft insurance built into all purchases. Might be worth checking.
