7/1/2004 G5 2.5 Order

Ordered my 2.5 on July 1st from the Apple Store with stock video and RAM, 250GB HD upgrade, minus the modem. I still see a delivery date of "on or before 7/30."

BTW At the same time I ordered an extra 4GB of RAM (2 matched pairs for $720 shipped) and a Raptor 10,000 RPM 74GB HD ($165 shipped after rebate).

Already received the extra HD and RAM :D

My credit card has NOT been billed for the computer - but the charge for the computer has been "pending" ever since I placed the order. I'll be watching my statement carefully; once that charge clears I'm sure that means the computer will be shipped shortly thereafter.

Cheers

7-20-04 Not in stores - order still same

REAL, NON-RUMOR INFO.

Both stores in Denver do NOT have the dual 2.5. And my order (from 6-26) is still showing "on or before 7/30/04".

More "real" info.

I'm on the "list" at an Apple Retail Store in the Northeast and until today I was being told that they were expecting shipment this week. Today they changed that to late next week (e.g. the end of the month), but seemed pretty solid on that.

Whatever "solid" means at this point. ;)

I ordered 2.5 with 6800 ultra, airport, bluetooth and 250g HD. This is a replacement for a returned 2.0 G5, not ordered through the Apple Store, but through tech support My card was charged on 7/15 (for the upgrade extras) and I was told the expected date is still 8/6, but that sometimes it can be much sooner than this date.

They "seemed pretty solid" when the said by the 15th.

Ok, my ETA from Jigsaw24 has changed from 19/07 to 03/08. But since the first date was speculation i assume this one is too.

I guess they need to enter something on the system.

Arrgh!! - it's getting unbearable waiting!! :) - I never had to wait for a Mac before - but then I never ordered a top of the line before either!.... I am bloody dreaming about the thing! lol!

oiy'vey. I waited over three months for my Macintosh, with 128k of RAM and a 400k floppy drive, 9 inch screen. June to August somehow doesn't seem that bad!

I think I will be ordering this week with the 6800 ultra. I hope I get it at least sometime in August. I'm not getting Applecare initially but I plan to get it sometime within the first year. However, I was wondering if Applecare adds an additional 3 years to your one free first year, making a total of 4 covered years, or does it only give you 3 total?

I know - but in reality, I have been waiting since they bought out the G5 last year, and by January I, Like most others expected rev 2, so allthough this is the short home stretch, it still seems like a loooooong time! :)

3 total I think - that is what most extended warranties offer.

It gives you 3 years total. But also remember, unless you buy Applecare right away, you only get phone support for 90 days. With Applecare bought right away, you get phone support for 3 years. But then again, I've hardly ever used the phone support.

Yeh my reseller said originally they would have been here last week, now he said conservatively they should be here be the end of week 4 july (the 30th)....if they push the date back again i am going to lose it arghhhhhh

I'd love to be worng

three years from date of purchase regardless of when you activate it - having it active just makes any needs easier to take care of - if it breaks like at months 9 you have to get it activated before you can get it fixed - vs just getting it fixed.

So I've been told.... buit like I said in the title - I would like to be wrong.

Meanwhile... Is your warranty wasting away?

RAM for new 2.5 G5?

Where's the best place to get the best price on 2 gigs of RAM for new 2.5 G5?

Will any old PC 3200 DDR400 do the trick?

Ordered 6/14 from Apple Education store.

Still says on or before 7/30.

The 03/08 date is the same as the ship date quoted on my order at Apple Online, now mine is a CTO and with the UK shipping lag the date is realistic. So if Apple can ship UK by the end of July and the resellers can get their act together then you may receive your machine in the first week of August.
Though I wouldn't hold out any hope as the displays are theoretically shipping but there is no sign of them at the moment.

Does anyone here think that there is a correlation between the release of 10.3.5 and the release of the new PMs? I know people at WWDC said that the 2.5s they used were running 10.3.5 and it was still buggy. There have already been 2 developer seeds of the build, so I'm assuming it should be released in the next week or so.

Maybe there's code critical to the LCS in this release, and we are waiting for the software to be completed before the machines can ship. I don't know... I guess I'm just trying to pass the time and justify the wait... ;) .

Crucial RAM

Jacasey: Crucial RAM seems to be the most preferred. Sometimes cheap additional RAM can cause the freezing problems many owners are experiencing and Crucial RAM seems to be what plays best with the G5. http://www.crucial.com/

As has been stated many times in the discusison forums, Apple uses Crucial RAM in their machines. You do get what you pay for, and Crucial is very good RAM. RAM is definitely something you don't want to cheap out on!

Hmmm - I never heard of that before, but I will check them out - I ordered an additional gig of Kingston RAM, which I always thought was supposed to be a great brand!??

Apple Charged my account!

Apple charged my account this morning! I think this must be good news. I would think that this meens they will ship it soon. Does anyone have a guess how long it usually is between the time they charge you and the time they ship? My ESD is still 7/30.

Kingston is very good RAM, it's just well known that Crucial ram works well very well with Apple computers. However, I can't agree that Apple uses crucial ram in their systems, I believe they use a different brand...

Listen to me very carefully: Did they charge your account, or did they merely put an inquisitive hold on the money? There is a difference, and the latter one means absolutely zilch.

But if they truly did CHARGE you then I would like to know what and when you ordered. Thank you. :)

I heard someone on here say that it is a brand called Hypnix or something like that...
