We also know there were new drivers just released, and the 9600 was not previously offered.

Someone could try putting a 9600 in another G5, I'd imagine there will be similar results.

Well, let's hope it's a software and/or a 9600xt issue, and not the processors, For the hassle, they should replace it with a 9800xt if my G5 has to go in, and be there for about 3-4 weeks! (But I don't have it yet... so)

Actually, I got the 9800 because at the time of my order (6/9/04) it was top of the line offered. Then, when the new 6800 was announced weeks later. They said that it wouln't ship till late august. Being that I ordered on day 1 that the G5s were announced, I didnt want to push myself down in the queue. When they delayed the ship date to 8/20, I called and they said it would delay even further if I switched to the 6800. I decided to keep the 9800.

If they delay me tomorrow, I'm going to

1. Be really pissed that I didnt get the 6800
2. Call Apple and bitch them out big time.
C. Dig out my old Commadore 64 and use that from now on.
 
oh btw you guys should put down what kind of monitor you're using.

Apple gave my parents a DVI->VGA adapter with this little cable, DO NOT USE THIS PIECE OF CRAP. It's a thin, crappily sheilded pile of dung.

Any DVI->VGA adapter will work, Apple's one is REALLY susceptible to interference. A fast-revving fan could easily mess with this. If you are using a VGA display, try wrapping the adapter (especially the thin white cable) in tin foil.

If it is occurring with a digital display, I'd be very surprised and point to a big driver/hardware problem.
 
those revving problems didn't do much good to my eager waiting, hopefully my machine turns out ok..is there anybody with a 9600xt that doesn't experience this??

oh well, time to go to bed, big shipping day tomorrow, at least for you guys :)

When my stuff arrives, I'll be able to test both cards.. I have a stock model with a 9600 XT, (could not order a custom machine with distributor) and then had to order a NV 6800 seperatly.

At this moment, the NV 6800 is scheduled for 9/1, while the G5 is scheduled for 9/8 But that is not a black on white statement.. :rolleyes:
 
great ge4-ce, i'm happy I bought AppleCare, it assures me quite a bit that I will have a machine that functions appropriate, and if not, i'll demand repair or replacement. We paid good money for it, so we deserve to get the quality we paid for. I was also planning to upgrade the gfc, but not immediately, unless of course, the problem is idd the 9600, then i'll demand the upgrade to the 9800st (or perhaps paying half of the price to upgrade)

here's hoping! I'm really off now, cu all tomorrow

Yup..the shipping label Apple sent me to return my unit has your address on it! :D :D Seeing I live right next door in Wi, should be there sooner than you think! I have an appointment at the Mayo Clinic on Aug. 30. If you can wait till then, I'll deliver it in person. :D :DWe can go fishing and try it out as a boat anchor. :D :D All kidding aside, I hope your unit works flawlessly and the Vikings stay one step behind the Packers all season! :)

I think they've spent the last 3 weeks installing robotic legs on their Cupertino office and tomorrow they'll announce the delays and have it run to mexico with all our money.

recursivejon is pushing me towards RAMJET. Crucial's deal is actually better now, free shipping ($10 at RAMJET), and a $25 rebate. So, RAMJET would cost me ~$30 more.

Another shipped

My ADC G5 order from 7/2 shipped today according to e-mail I just received. My estimated shipped date had been 8/20. No FedEx tracking info yet, but I have the tracking number.

Yea, I purposely avoided receiving other Apple emails that would throw me into a tizzy! That meant holding off on getting anything from the iTunes Music Store.

But I have since cancelled the online order for 8/20 and on Tuesday I bought the computer at a Walnut Creek, CA Apple store, minus internal bluetooth which I never really had an immediate use for anyways. I know it was only a couple of days to go (maybe) but I was fed up with the phone support and wasn't gonna let the chance pass me of getting the computer from a store.
 
Well, I called the Keystone Apple Store here in Indianapolis, and they said they haven't received any shipments yet, and will not until the first week of September... BLAST IT ALL!!! I'm going to be traveling up through Chicago tomorrow so I'm going to call all four of them and see what they say :)
