Echoing what Studio Dweller said earlier, i spoke with ClubMac (MacMall) and they said that there are currently 51 2.5s enroute to their warehouse. They will arrive anytime between tomorrow and monday.

They said that if they arrive saturday, they will ship them out saturday. They want to get them out as soon as possible because until they ship, they don't make any money off of them. He said ground shipping to NYC should take 3 days. So hopefully I'm in that first shipment... if so I could have my mac by the middle of next week. I can't believe that this all might be over soon.

I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl (but i'm trying not to get my hopes up until i know i'm in that first shipment).

The next batch is due in a few weeks.

Dear Apple Customer,

The following products shipped on 08/19/2004. Transit time will
depend upon whether you have chosen standard or premium freight
options. If your order is shipping standard freight, it should arrive
within 10 days of shipment.

Yes!!!!!

Hope many of you get yours shipped tomorrow. Thanks for all the support.

Wow...that's 3 in a row on the thread! Congrats all!

Hopefully that means that all of Apple's little elves will be busy tonight getting their G5's ready for shipping.

However! I really am concerned/confused over the G5 processor problems. Who is having problems, people with the 9600 or the 9800 boards?

I would DIE if after all this time I have to bring the machine back in and wait another 4-6 weeks.

Whoever has problems... did it show up with the Apple Hardware Test?

Slughead,

why did you choose to cancel? get the G5 now, then just wait for the 6800. No biggie..not like any games need the 6800 right now...and Doom 3 isn't going to be out for quite a while on mac.

Can't get the G5 "now", you get it 2 weeks from now.

I can use the computer without the card, but not if it's not here for two more weeks. It's a rather complicated situation but I'm seeing red right now so regardless of my situation Apple's not getting anything more from me.

Just seems like a waste to wait all this time...then cancel. Especially when it says "by September 3rd." It seems like stock systems are just starting to really flow..

I dunno...I'd hold on man. But whatever..

Well I have finally gotten the most important email from Apple yet. My new 2.5 G5 has been shipped. Too bad i will now have to wait for it to arrive at my house and then shipped to my school. So it will cost me $100+ more dollars to ship it there. Oh well at least i can sleep nites now that is shipped.

When did you receive it?

#&*@&!

I was hoping that maybe, just MAYBE Apple was shipping the 2.5's with 6800's out tomorrow. I mean, pre-auth, no e-mail around 4:30.. things were looking good.

But no, like others, I received the e-mail.
Three options.
Receive a PMG5 with a 9600 by 9/3 and a Standalone 6800 by 9/17?
Receive a PMG5 with a 6800 installed by 9/13

Or just cancel the thing?

Apple, you big TEASE!!!

Anyways, I'm going with option 1. I want a G5! It just seems like Apple doesn't want to sell me one.. *sigh*

Captain Obvious predicts a ton of new ATI 9600XT cards selling on e-Bay around the 17th of Sept. :D

My first post on MacRumors....just finished getting my new stock Dual 2.5 hooked up. I placed an order on August 13, and was told to expect it on or before September 20.
After reading posts last night about certain Apple Stores receiving 2.5s, I called The Apple Store at Fashion Show Mall here in Las Vegas this morning (Thursday), and sure enough, they had several in stock. I said HOLD ONTO IT FOR ME!!!! I raced down to the store, only to get stuck in a 45 minute traffic jam on the way...

I loaded in 3gb of Crucial Ram along with the 512k that came with it. VERY BIG improvement on the internet over my Dual 1ghz mirror-door, but I'm looking forward to see how this does with FCP and Motion. Driving into LA next week to have it configured to run a 1.25t tower from Promax for SDI video. Raid-0 configuration, and they build the box.

It sounds like they still have several 2.5s left, so call them up, and get out to Las Vegas to pick one up - the tempuratures have been right under 100 degrees, which is unusually cool here. Good luck to everyone, and thanks for the great advice/tip that resulted in this new computer sitting next to me today.

Retail Update

Both the Chestnut Hill and Cambridge Stores "had a few, but sold out" already. They advised to "check back tomorrow," so I think that there is a steadier flow coming in to the stores. I certainly think that I should be able to get a 2.5 before my estimated ship date of 9.20..... Anyone else finding significant store stock yet?

According to my email it says i recieved the message at 6:47 PM EST. I have a tracking number but no shipping info from fedex yet. So i am sure it is on its way to be scanned, from where it is being shipped. I will further update when i find out where it is coming from.

None at the San Francisco store...but I am on the list! (just incase I get a dreaded e-mail).

There was a few units at the SF store earlier and a friend took the last one today. He didn't know how many were delivered, but when the salesman said they did have one last he bought it at once.

I can't understand how Apple operates their business. You have multiple orders placed upon release, which they can't fulifll. But at the same time they are able to trickle a few units at their stores for anyone to walk in and buy. I don't have anything against anyone walking in to the store for a G5, but there are lots of earlier buyers still waiting for theirs.

Duff-Man says...I think they have to do it that way...their own retail stores and their resellers are customers too. We have people ordering direct from Apple getting pissed off, but all their stores and resellers would get pissed off if they couldn't get any until all Apple's online orders were fulfilled. It's a very fine balancing act, and it's not perfect - that's for sure but I think it is important for Apple to keep *all* its sales points in the supply loop.....oh yeah!

It is puzzling, but I have a theory. I think Apple is thinking in terms of availability over a period of a few days, rather than from day-to-day. Suppose Apple knows they can ship machines this week to everyone with 8/20 dates? If they do that, then over a period of a few days, Apple has satisifed all their earliest orders and gotten some out to stores. From their point of view it's basically all happened at the same time. I really hope I'm right and Apple meets all their 8/20 estimates.

I couldnt stand to wait any longer. I held off calling Apple.
I was just informed that my machine is ready and will be shipping with 12-24 hrs.

Whille I want to be excited. I still haven't gotten a tracking number so I will wait and see.

Oddly...I ordered with free shipping on 6/9 but my order says "Priority Overnite"...ssshhh...don't tell anyone!
