Today a Dual 2.5 GHZ G5 gets delivered to my work.. but alas, it doesn't have my name on it. Looks like my coworker ordered one too.. He also got the 23" Cinema display with it.

I asked him when he ordered, he said 5 weeks ago. That's it?! He said he ordered through a friend who works for Apple. Ahh well.

It was hard letting it sit in the mail room without grabbing it and running for the door.

FYI : Belkin UPS info

For those who were interested, I recieved my Belkin 1200VA UPS today, and the Bulldog software DOES include auto shutdown as well as a whole number of cool monitring features - tested, and it works fine with my G4 and dual LCDs with only 22% load usage - the G5 will take more obviously!

Mine shipped with software for 10.2, but if you go to the website, you will find a Panther version.

According to this thread:
MacNN Forums

the core clock on the apple 9600XT is only 400 mhz, which is the same as the old 9600. The PC 9600XT runs at 500 mhz. Although I am excited about my dual 2.5 finally arriving tomorrow, I'll be disappointed if the ATI silliness is true.

Dude, that totally sucks. Man I sure hope that's not true. If it is, Apple will be hearing from me and I'd totally support a lawsuit to remedy the matter. Hopefully I'll just be able to flash it up to the normal speed, though.

I can understand why they did it if it's a cooling issue, but they shouldn't _advertise_ it as something it's not, regardless of the reason. Besides, I for one would gladly take a small gfx fan for 20% more speed.

I don't think that it states anywhere on apple's site what the specs of the mac 9600xt are. Other than it being a 128mb card. It would kind of make sense that its operating at the same clock when you look at the barefeats results. there's barely any difference between a 2.5 9600xt and a 2.0 9600 on some of the benches.

I've read lots of reports in this thread about getting AppleCare. Just a reminder to a lot of you that you automatically double your standard 1-year warranty just by purchasing your computer with American Express. (I'm sure other credit cards do the same). That gives you a 2-year warranty for "free". That's good enough for me. Just make sure you save your receipt!
For me, the main benefit of the AppleCare warranty is the phone support--with the typical warranty, you get 90 days phone, 1 year hw. AppleCare allows you to have 3 years phone + 3 years hardware (at least it did when I ordered it).

Wait so that UPS does support AutoShutdown on a MAC? The Belkin site only menions PCs...

I ordered it the other day regardless of that...sweet!

Ground Shipping not upgraded

Gururafiki said:
Why must so many people request free overnight shipping and discounts? When my order got delayed, my shipping was upgraded to overnight without a word from Apple. Apple should give everyone free overnight shipping. With it, you then almost know for sure when your computer is coming, and then you know what day(s) to call in sick to work! ;)

Well I argued and they agreed to ship it overnight...but then when I tracked my shipment it says "fedex ground." I called Apple and they said they "didn't offer free upgrades on shipping, that I was mistaken." I refered them to this site, but she refused to look. so mine has been sitting in Aneihim CA since Friday.

I need to know what day it will arrived so I can arrange my schedule to be here. I am really glad that others were able to get free overnight shipping and $100 discount. I guess I just didn't scream loud enough!

maybe not being so loud would have worked. argueing over the phone with them doesn't get you far. they might have said they would ship it overnight to get you off the phone.

edit: you ordered it on the 21st? you should be lucky it shipped at all, my 6/17 order says "on or before 9/20" still :(

anyways, congrats

Anyone else try to fill all eight RAM slots? I was prepared to do so, but the 4th and final 'upper' RAM slot is partially blocked by a fan or power connector cable. I have not taken the time to see if I can reroute the cable and clear that slot. I'm sure I could probably let the connector lay on the RAM chips, but I don't think that would be good for the RAM or the connector wires. By the way Newegg.com has Kingston Dual Channel 512x2 kits that work great for one 'low' price. I think they also sell 256x2 kits from Kingston as well. I've had no problem with the scrolling/fan rev issue. The 'Silver Bullet' is movin' on down the line! Full steam ahead!

I've filled all the RAM slots , in mine the cable doesn't obstruct the slot , it just overlaps the outside of the slots plastic casing but doesn't obstruct the slot itself.

After fitting all modules are working fine.

I've got shipping confirmation online and an email confirmation, but my tracking number doesn't give me any info and my card hasn't been charged, bit concerned i'm being told porky pies

Now here's the interesting question...I've had my display and Applecare since July 28...when does AppleCare coverage start?

I was told that applecare coverage begins when the computer arrives, even though the monitor came first, because they were ordered together!

I purchased an APC Back-Ups LS 700, it has an auto backup and shutdown feature for the Mac. It uses USB. Not sure if it has enough power for the G5 or not. They also have a trade in program on there products. They pay for the return shipping.

Does anyone know how the Belkin compares?

Sweet! Finally yours ships! It's kind of funny, I just checked my email (no shipping notice so far) but with yours shipping it almost feels like it was mine. Who knows, maybe we will both get ours tommorrow! :D

I don't think so. This is how it has been for everyone. It takes a few hours for the package to get into the Fed Ex system and for the card to be charged. OURS ARE ON THEIR MERRY WAY!!!! WOO! :D
