btw: since there are apparently many audio dudes here, can i mention i'd love to gab more about mac/music/keyboard stuff in a more appropriate place. i'm the moderator of the keyboard forum at prosoundweb, in the marsh area. please stop over and lets talk more about music and macs.

ps: i got my studio pictures up there, feel free to post yours.

Its now back to 8/20... and the card is set for 9/30... what the hell...

Well lucky you!

I ordered mine on 6/10 and I do not have the option of a free 9600, I have to wait, and from what you have just said it looks like I am not going to get anything until at least October.

I am using a G3-300 and it is killing me, I just need this machine right now.

I'm going crazy around here!

My date has slipped to 15th september!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH

I ordered july 1th, but trough a reseller in Belgium..

there is nothing I can do..

Hell hell hell...

I really start to hate Apple you know! And folk that know me, know that if that happens, I'm really really really pissed off!

It's just that my school starts september 12th, and if the shipping date is correct, (and I doubt it.. It feels like it will change again and again) then I have no speedy computer to make my final year animation movies on this brand new Mac!!

And at least, I have to install this baby during tight deadlines etc..

I go mad...

I feel for you, but you won't have to deal with tight deadlines from the very first days of school won't you? I can be mistaken, but I never had to jump in the first few weeks of school, after a month or so, deadlines began to form piles :)

Well, this year, they changed the system. My first deadline is september 3rd. We have to post 6 motivated ideas, with sketches, little storyboards, backgrounds, legal stuff etc..

We then get advice to pick 2 ideas out of them.

By octobre 5th, we have to have our complete productionpack to be ready. for our first movie, (has to be finished by X-mas)

This means, I want to complete my modelsheets by then etc..

You might think, why does he need a G5 to make modelsheets? Well, I do not. But I like working ahead of things as well. So I can change things over time. I do a lot of stuff at the same time, and that's why I really need the G5..

well, that makes sense, hopefully the belgian resellers will be able to distribute the machines before let's say 10th of september, but that's still about 3 weeks from now, pls be sooner..

Rock-on Duff-Man! Though I have to admit that seeing your old Quicksilver there reminded me how much I liked (and miss) that design.

I thought EXACTLY the same thing - I had a Quicksilver 733 and replaced it with the 1Ghz FW800, but despite the extra speed, I still loved that Quicksilver - it was a very good Mac, and the best looking of the G4s I think! ;)

Duff-Man - nice rig man! ;)

I feel for you too, but since I ordered mine a month earlier through a UK reseller, and I haven't even got a vague date of delivery - my reseller forwarded this from the sales manager from Apple yesterday...

No G5 2.5 Ghz machines have shipped to Resellers yet.
We are awaiting a confirmed date - it will probably be after the end of this
month but I am not able to provide a definite ETA to customers at present.

'it will probably be after the end of this
month" - wtf kind of remark is that when you have already waited 2.5 months and never had any date other than 2nd Aug which we didn't even get an email or indication to change, or an apology email!!??

This is the worst kind of treatment from a company I had a lot of respect for once.

I don't have any info from my reseller as well, mr MacNabbit. Ordered 13th of june, and my reseller still cannot give me an estimate of when it should arrive, i'm the first in line, but what good does it do when there aren't any coming in.

He said it shouldn't be long anymore, but he added "but that's what we've been saying all along, apple is very low on comment regarding this issue". They can't tell us anything because they simply don't know anything too.

Their reseller channel needs some serious restructuring and advice in communicating to customers. They probably have thousands of resellers to satisfy, but those resellers have in turn many many customers to satisfy.

God, the more I think about it, the more depressed I become, must think happy thoughts ;)

The wonderful world of Apple

I ordered my 2.5 on the 10th June via the employee side of the UK Apple store.
Sure enough I got bumped to the 20th August just like the rest.
But, no further re-bump last week so I sat and waited for my status to change, nothing.
Yesterday I rang Apple UK and asked after my order, they would ring me back before 3.00pm.
At 2.00pm a nice TNT man came and gave me my new computer.
2.45pm Apple rang to tell me that it shipped that day, I then told the nice man that I had it, he was stunned to say the least.

Stunning machine though :D :D :D :D

Yes!

Thanks for your contributions on this forum - it is/was invaluable.

Because the the last delay made my 2.5 order pretty much a stock system (the 6800U thing) I cancelled my order and picked on up at my local Apple store. Good news for those of you who can't cancel - there's one more added to the mix. I was able to retain the upgrade pricing on the 6800 ($450 US$) so this was an easy decision.

Thanks again all... I will be a regular now on these forums... lurking in the shadows. ;)

Now the proud owner of a 2.5GHz G5/2.5GB RAM/160GB HD/9600XT (for now)!!!

I was told by Apple that this was _impossible_ in every meaning of the word, how did you get them to remove the G5 from your web order, allow you to buy one at a retail store, and then get the card for the discounted price?
OK...I have the 2.5 running now and its supersweet! ;D As for getting them to do this...here is what happened. I wrote my Mom a check so she would place the order on her credit card. It was stolen this weekend or misplaced...we still dont know...and they cancelled the order and realized how much crap I had to deal with since they wouldnt let me do a wire transfer and after the sales associate spoke with his supervisor he got me the discounted rate. I also received the student discount on it. I went to the store around 5 today and picked this badboy up bt wasnt able to hook her up til a few hours back! It was really easy to get used to and I am proud to be a Mac owner...even after the speedbump of gettin the damn thing. I ordered the first week when it was available back in June. U may not be able to get them to give u the discount on the card but I mentioned I got the email and was going to be receving the stand alone card anyways so I got hooked up. I would have been more than happy to start a new order with Mac online store but they wanted me to wait another 6-8 weeks which would not have been good at ALL! So I guess it was good my mom lost her card. Now I have a new toy to play with tomorrow! ;D

The ordeal is close to its end.

I just got tracking numbers for my two displays and applecare.

At last ! I am looking at getting them latest, Thursday.

Just out of interest, does anyone know of a company that does some dustcovers designed for the new 23" displays?

Well people like Solo-Act and many others who mentioned me in their posts helped me get through the never ending period of waiting.

I feel obligated to the others in this forum who are still waiting to do the same for them as others did for me. :)

'till all of the back orders come? :) unlike that punk kid hotwire :p

you will be here for awhile, apple still says the earliest my 6/17 order would ship is 9/3 and "my on or before" has been 9/20 since 7/30. I am kinda happy, i move next week so this will be one less thing to crame into the u-hual :)

I think you should stay until everyone who ordered in june gets theirs :D
my 13th of june - order will almost certainly be september, so, i'll see you guys here for a while ;);)

Duff-man, nice setup. I love that old Korg synth you have. I remember looking at that model way back when. Can't remember the model number though, MS-102 (or is that an old Yamaha model).

Congrats!

I'm older than that punk HotWire. ;) :D

Wow, I'd be more excited to be moving than I would about getting a computer (maybe). Congrats on both purchases. :)

How did you do this?

You are the second person I have heard done this, and I am _sure_ that you were not in the same odd situation that bigdz68 was in. Apple has told me many times that It _CAN NOT BE DONE_.

Please, I would really like to do this as well.

invalpsion : i've been checking out that macskinz site, where you got your clear sidepanel. But honestly, I don't really see the added value, except the etched G5, I thought if you detach the metal sideboard, there still is a clear plastic cover inside the g5. What does this macskin add to the g5? I must be missing something here :D

thx!

btw : countdown on your machine? how many hours, minutes?

The clear plastic cover doesn't cover the entire side, only the bottom 2/3 or so. I'll see if I can post a picture, then you can see what it looks like. (True, it doesn't add anything, but I thought that it looked pretty cool. :D )

My G5 is supposed to be delivered today before 3 P.M. CST. :) That is roughly 6 hours away.

The macskin is intenteded to be used instead of the metal side plate - so you can always see inside your G5.

Thx, I know, but I figured i just leave the metal side plate off, and just have it sit there with that clear panel that came with the g5, but I guess invalpsion explained it to me quite nice :)

:p

Ah, I get it :) (i think) - the original plastic side plate that comes with the G5 doesnt cover/protect the whole inside of the machine - but the macskin does. (I haven't seen the inside of a G5 in person yet, so i didn't know that - but thats going to change tonight!)

Seems like i'm the one that needed the lesson!
