That clear panel is packing isnt it? You are supposed to take it out.

Btw: Here are my shots of the new baby.

Really awesome pictures. I have a feeling you must do that for a living - either that or you should - you have a great eye. That heat sink on the 9800 is serious business - that thing is huge!

Cats seem to love the new G5s. I'm curious to see how my cat reacts now!

BTW, the clear panel is designed for airflow, and if you remove it, certain fans will run at full blast.

i'm installing DP and Peak now and getting some of the last osx plug in upgrades. i've spent the night doing the last os9 project i hope to do, with the future all on my new 2.5 baby.

btw: since there are apparently many audio dudes here, can i mention i'd love to gab more about mac/music/keyboard stuff in a more appropriate place. i'm the moderator of the keyboard forum at prosoundweb, in the marsh area. please stop over and lets talk more about music and macs.

ps: i got my studio pictures up there, feel free to post yours.

Hey audio guys,

I am wanting to set up my new G5 for Audio Mixing and soundtrack mixing for my video productions (been using my pc). And I wanted to know what how to hookup to the G5. What speakers are ya using etc? What connection, cuz this thing doesnt have a regular audio out?

You can p-message me too.

Joe

i'll have to get a couple of plug ins updated and so forth to really tell you in an apples to apples kind of way. the waves wup thingy, and so forth. it'll easily be an extra thousand dollars getting all the key plug ins updated for osx finally. then i could load the same project in and compare. i'll mess around with it some later today and a whole lot tomorrow and reply. the motu-mac list has reported many people saying their projects run much much smoother with incredibly low processor usage readings, esp when compared to the same projects on g4's using like most of the processor. i would prefer a more efficient DP. i think motu could really get it to be a little snappier, esp with the graphics.

I got an e-mail from my reseller telling me that he expected our G5's the first or second week of september, EXPECTING !!!! GRRR. So we have to wait here in Holland as well. Ordered june 13th as well.

Hi peer, glad to see other people experiencing the same issues like we do.. welcome to the 'club' ;)

edit : wel not glad to see you have problems as well, but glad to see we are not alone :p

Excellent post - precise, to the point, with all of the information I need to make a good buying decision. Best of all - perfect use of the apostrophe!

BTW: Quite a setup you have. While I'll never have anything quite like it, it certainly is great to see. (...then again...if I sell my car, plane, ...)

thanks....i only had to sell my soul to get that set-up...

i already have to take my machine in to have it looked at. my drive fan pegs @ 4000 RPM after the machine has been on for a while and stays there (i hope it's just a bad sensor). here are some screenshots of Hardware Monitor sensor overviews - the first is over a 3.5 hour period, the second is over a 12min 40 sec period with iTunes visualizer running....

My baby is on the FedEx vehicle for delivery! Everyone will be able to see my clear side panel doing its job by this afternoon. :D

Oh yes, the $47 will be worth it. :D

get your camera ready for the fedex guy ;)
and I bet we will see pics of your cat sitting on the g5 box, screeching for attention

with or without metal side or macskinz cover

Can someone with a G5 verify the following statement for me? (or deny :))

If you have the G5 running next to you without the metal side plate, or a macskinz cover, so just the plastic inside, isn't your machine a bit louder than with the plate who seals off better?

Worth the wait

Received my Dual 2.5 G5, BT 9800XT yesterday. ordered on June 9th. Ran Apple’s Hardware Test and all is ok. Has any one had any test problems with G5s from the latest wave?
Installed a Maxtor 250 SATA and a total of 4Gb of Ramjet RAM. Ran long test and all just fine. Transferring Info from my old Mac (Quicksilver 733Mhz, 2x40Gb drives) didn’t work. The G5 never could find the old Mac in the Firewire mode. I ended up transferring from a Carbon Copy Cloner backup duplicate on an external firewire drive and all went fine.
Did a quick comparison of a 1700 SuperCard card sort and list routine, the 733 took 2:09 min. and the Dual G5 0:29 sec.
Also, SnapxProX w/movie capture will capture DVD full screen (1152x864), 30fps, 44.1 khz audio without dropping any frames or any audio distortion.
You guys that are still waiting – don’t give up, the wait is well worth it.

Oh, and my cats are soooo much cooler than Gecko's. I'll get pics with both of them on the box. They are curious lil devils... ;)

Read every post... Mine has finally shipped!

I have quietly been reading all 3600+ posts, biding my time for my 6/30 EDU order to ship. Added my name to the lists, watched others enjoy their deliveries. Laughed when Hotwire started a trend by shooting a picture of the FedEX guy, that was classic.

Well, this morning I finally received a tracking number! Whoo Hoo! But I'll have to wait for the ground shipping since they couldn't (wouldn't) update my shipping or offer me anything after my 20" shipped early-mid July (the whole split order thing). It's been sitting here waiting for it's dual 2.5 friend for over a month.

My B&W 450 G3 is ready to move into semi-retirement or serve as my wife's email/web surfing machine. It has served me well.

Good luck to all you still waiting.

I'll bet it's box 3 of 8 on pallet#CK43400Y

8 Mac's to a pallet seems about right.

My box was box 2 of 3. I got mine at a local Apple store and they said they received 3 that day. I assumed it was just 2 of the 3 that were shipped to that store.

Just got off the phone with apple about my order status (ordered 23/6,dual 2.5, 1 GB ram, 160 gig hd, 9600XT,AE,BT keyb&mouse,AE basestation)
Asked em how it was possible that people who ordered after me got their systems already when apple claims in their mail that systems are send out by orderdate.
"I dont know"
Who can answer that question?
"I dont know"
Can you tell me if certain components like the airport card or airport basestations are out of stock?
"I dont know"
Who can answer that question?
"I dont know"
So how firm is the latest shipping date, augusts 27?
"uhhm, well if they emailed that to you that must be it at the moment"
*SIGH*
