I ordered on 6/11 and still I got nothing but a 9/03 ship date.

Hellooooooo....... :p

You should be glad they could be bothered to update your shipping date ;) , mine still says 8/20!

Oh its not packaging?

Lucky I didnt throw it away.

Being a man obviously I wasnt going to read the manual!

Thank God I bailed from MacConnection. I got mine a week ago from a local Apple store. Yeah, I paid tax and lost the 1 GB RAM deal. But, at least I didn't see MacConnection shipping mass quantities a day later. You got to follow your instincts at times......oh yeah!
:D

Woooooeeeeeeeee!

I just emailed my rep at CDW for my weekly update, and b/c I saw my status page changed from "backordered" to "item(s) haven't shipped", and he told me it should ship today! Wooo! I'm pumped!

Granted, I don't have a shipping number, but I think the odds are pretty good. I think this is a good sign for resellers as it shows CDW got at least 40 units as I was #40 on the list.

Hellooooooo....... :p

My ADC order from 7/2 shipped last Thursday. Standard configuration except for extra RAM and Bluetooth. Like Suburban Trow, I was stuck with ground shipping which couldn't be changed because my display had already shipped. Can't wait for the delivery scheduled for Thursday.

Phooey, I got my 500GB LaCie Hard Drive today, but still no PowerMac to hook it up to! I sure hope it ships today! BTW, I ordered at 6:15AM PST on June 9th, not 7:00AM. I know it's splitting hairs but... you know. :p

Insult to injury

My order total has just increased by 1 pence! My estimated tax varies from the confirmation email to the current 'estimated tax' figure by .01. I will argue this until I'm blue in the face.

This is an outrage! I mean any good salesman knows that by marking things down to end in .99 makes it easier for the customer to feel good about their purchase.

Paying 5,474.99 was my absolute limit. But now that it's 5,475.00 -- well that's another story all together!

Have you tried calling Apple? It doesn't hurt to check them directly.

No problem! Cancel it! I would do that right away if I were you! What are you? A Wussy? Come on! Let's see them who's the man! GRRRRR show 'm your teeth! So that another person is happy to get his/her G5 a bit earlier because you canceled ;) :p

I got the same! :) I was originally told that I was number 6 on their list. He said they got 20 in, so I thought I was part of that order. After a couple das of nothing, I called and was told number 18. still, that should have put me in the batch of 20. still Nothing. Now he says I was number 18 after the initial shipment. Oh well, they got 192 G5's in today, so I am well within this order.

Mine is also supposed to ship today, as it has left backorder and is now in "picking". 11 weeks from order to delivery. Ah, the speed of technology!

I'm just surprised a G5 would even run without the clear panel. I was told that the G5 would eventually shut itself down, if the clear panel was removed.

My order experience ... a NIGHTMARE

I've had the worst experience buying my first Mac. I ordered a Dual 2.5 G5 with the following specs back on June 28:

- 2.5GHz PowerPC G5
- 1GB RAM
- 160GB HD
- CD-RW/DVD-ROM (didn't get the super drive as I have an external Plextor)
- ATI Rad9800 XT
- Blue Tooth +Apple WrlsKybd & Mouse

I have an external Lacie 250 GB HD so that's why I kept the 160. Didn't want to have to wait for the 6800.

I also ordered some software, .MAC, the Extended Warranty, and the 23" HD Display. The guy I ordered from failed to specify to have all things ship at one time as I asked him to do because I was on my way off to vacation. So the next day the software, warranty, and .mac ship. I called him back and he said oops. I guess that was a harbinger of things to come! So I had a ship date of July 30 on my G5 ... no biggie.

So I wasn't home when the software arrived so FEDEX sends it back to them. Once I get back from vacation, I had to explain to Apple what happened so the resend the software ... I get that. I then get the 23" HD Display. So somewhere around the middle of July I call and ask them about adding the Super Drive to my order and I explicitly state to the rep that I don't want to do it if my ship date gets delayed ... so what does the dummy do .... he cancels my first order and makes a new one. I guess he wanted the commission or something. I get really ticked off because my ship date gets pushed to August 30th. I end up talking to his supervisor about what happened, luckily the guy who messed up was honest with his boss. So the supervisor states that he will contact the personnel in charge of manufacturing and ask that my order be expedited, so I was like cool. I then get a call back from him 2 days later and he said that it was moved up to the first week of August. Recall that this all happened in the middle of July.

The ship date of the first week in August slipped so I called the supervisor back and he said he would keep me posted on what's happening with my order. He used to call me every couple of days and has now stopped. I still haven't gotten my system and I'm really upset. All that talk about an expedited order was a bunch of crap.

All that they've done was to give me free overnight shipping. What should I do. I'm so mad that I wanna cancel but I've already waited this long. For the time I've had to wait ... I wish I would have ordered the 6800 instead of the 9800. I'm so upset

For someone who's decided to switch to Apple ... this has been the WORST experience.

I think that Apple shouldn't charge me for the screw up with the SuperDrive ... what do you guys think??? I need some advice.

Thanks!

How did you do this?

You are the second person I have heard done this, and I am _sure_ that you were not in the same odd situation that bigdz68 was in. Apple has told me many times that It _CAN NOT BE DONE_.

Please, I would really like to do this as well.

When the delayed it a second time the 6800U became a different line-item on my order - separate from the actual G5. So...

I went into the Apple Store got on the phone with customer service and had them cancel the G5 - then checked via the web to verify it was cancelled - then walked out with a G5. Dudes in the store said i couldn't do it, but I could check with customer service. They had to transfer me to a "specialist" and it did take a while, but very much worth it.

I think you are in the same boat as the majority of us - shafted with out even a polite 'excuse me'.

Don't mix up Apples apparently appalling service (in this instance) tarnish the Mac experience - it is afterall, the computers and the OS that we all love, and I am sure you will be very pleased in comparison to any Windows experience once you eventually get one. So far I haven't had any real issues with any of my Macs, although I confess to being a little paranoid about this one due to everything that has gone wrong so far with ordering, shipments and potentially rushed builds.

This is so cool reading all the shipping announcements!

Murphy's law....when I finally bail on tracking shipments waiting for the big rush to come...only then does the wave of shipments begin. Congrats everyone and keep those pictures coming. When I have more time I'll post some too.

First post, first impressions...

WOW

She's dead silent. It's simply amazing. I'm just updating and transferring right now. I'm going to test her gaming abilities out after lunch. :)

Just curious. How did people set their processor performance? Highest or automatic?

Automatic for me. I'll be wiping the 160 I have when the WD raptor 74gig 10krpm drive comes in. Then I'll transfer all system data & applications to that drive and all user data to the 160. I guess that speeds up the hard drive bottleneck a little.

Like I said, when I was at my friends and we were ripping through some stuff, it was hard to believe that the G5 was actually mine. I've always been the kid on the block with the slowest machine. --E

Well considering the amount of surface area that cooling system uses im not surprised. Amazing design on Apple's part.

I tried both. With "highest" my UPS load was around 4% higher than with it set to "automatic", and system temperatures were higher as well by about 6°F. This is with the system basically idling. When set to "automatic" I saw no performance difference, as the system switched automatically to highest pretty much instantaneously, with no side-effects. As a result, i saw no reason not to use "automatic", which is also the default setting.
