Gaming with a 9600XT and a dual 2.5...

UT2K4 Demo: (1280 x 1024, everything maxed) low FPS: 25 High: 70 Avg.: 50s

AAO: (1280 x 1024, everything maxed, insugent camp) low FPS: 22 High: 115! Avg.: 40 - 60

Call of Duty 1.4: (1280 x 1024, everything maxed, single player) There is no command for FPS but I am a pretty good detector. The computer bottoms at about 15 FPS and avgs 25-20.

Warcraft 3: This game is no problem for the dual 2.5. Never dips below 30FPS.

Again, the 9800's are a year and a half old, the 9600 is a slower 9800 with less video RAM.

Just called MacConnection...they said my G5 should be shipping today!!! And I called my credit card company, and indeed the $3000+ has been charged! Seems like resellers are finally getting their shipments.

So I didn't get to be the first to announce this one, with all the rest of you slobbering over pictures, but at least after 11 weeks I have a shipping confirmation! I just finished editing a project on my powerbook that left me screaming for faster renders, and less dropped frames. I'm dusting off the empty computer shelf that I built for the G5. If you build it, it will come....11 weeks late.

Very nice to hear all those reseller shipments.. But I still don't know why some woman from macconnection customer service mailed someone back stating the shipments wouldn't be until first or second week of september.

I think when they check their system, they are probably getting the shipping info that are to be relayed to people placing an order today. BUt if you get an email recently, I take it that these are the folks that did not get included in the first batch. I was suppose to be the 1st or 2nd in line...since I ordered on 6/9 - as soon as the item was avalaible on their website. I don't know how many they gotten in for their first batch though.

Yay! This is the first i've heard of a CDW order shipping. I ordered from CDW as well (July 9th). Hopefully I'll get a notice sometime soon!

I mentioned that I heard someone was to get it in a couple of days. She said that they had received about 6 so far - I am number 40...

She also indicated that they had been having many problems with the new liquid cool - hopefully they will get this all straightened out before I receive my machine.

she knows nothing, if they only got 6 of them, how can she know they had many problems with the cooling? And if so, they cleared those problems before shipping them, cause otherwise we would've heard issues with it so far. So far some fans revving, and the very occasional doa, nothing special.

Hey invaLPsion! Thanks for posting those stats. I'm 8 hours away from being able to go home and play with my new toy. Can't wait. These next few hours are going to feel like days.

I was wondering if you've experienced any of the ripple while scrolling or fan reving problems that G5_medic has pointed out.

Wow. Received mine late today, have copied some files, run hardware test short and extended (no problems)....it's so sweet. So so fast. My old machine was a 400Mhz G4 so you can imagine what this feels like. So fast. I'm waiting for the first big thing I need to compile to see it really fly. Things like surfing are just childs-play to it.

Did anyone else's NOT come with CPU Monitor installed? I find that odd. Copied from old Mac and it works fine. I love the dual-graphs.

Also, maybe I'm just being super picky, but I notice two sounds coming from it. One is a high-pitch sounds that's very soft but audible in a silent room, and the other is a hum that I think is coming from the SuperDrive. Can anyone else confirm this? I know that some have had the high-pitch noise issue but I am unaware of any sort of actual solution. Just hit-and-miss replacing the power supply.

Even so, it's a SWEET machine, fans are super quiet. Tomorrow I get Call of Duty and UT2004 in the mail...can't wait!

Well... I'm still waiting for mine!!! I've already negotiated my (meager) $75 off and free overnight shipping.

To kill some time today, I ordered a second 160GB Seagate Barracuda from NewEgg.com ($107 plus $1 shipping. Sweet). It will probably arrive before my G5 does, but it can keep company with the 2GB of RAM that's been sitting on my desk for two weeks... just waiting to be installed in a new G5 and become a useful & productive member of society. (Instead of being a very expensive --but not very efficient-- paperweight.)

Come on, Apple!! I really NEED my G5!!!!!!!!!
