I have taken upon the task of updating solo-act's spreadsheet. It took me a while for me to raise my hand......More statistics to follow along with charts. Just wanted to get this out on the street. I will update once a day. Please review your info and fill in the question marks. alot of people have not given notice that they recieved their unit.

I will keep the spreadsheet going until the last of the June orders are filled.

By the way, I recived notice that my machine will be shipping today. :)

Here is the link: spreadsheet

CLAP!--CLAP!--CLAP!--CLAP!--CLAP!--CLAP!--CLAP!--CLAP!

tamtam you are indeed a brave soul. Feel free to PM with any questions. Its great to see the spreadsheet resurrected. Can't wait to take a look.

Its a good luck thing guys.... start maintaining the spreadsheet and you will soon be in possession of a shiny new dual 2.5 :) Thanks tamtam I thought the spreadsheet was dead. Its good to see you carrying the torch!

Klaus,

What about screen redraw time. Would the 256mb of vram help? I work on 400mb files daily. Sometimes 1.5 GB files after adding layers, etc.

Don't want to spend the extra cash if it not going to help.

video memory is only used for displaying images on the screen, that is seperate from the system. what you want is more ram. 3 to 4 gigs should work perfect, leaving over a gig free for osx and any applications you are running and should be cheaper than a 6800.

edit: oops already answered :p

Let me know when it comes.

Kathy
also ordered from MacConnection

Hello Kathy,
I have bad news for you....my G5 is being delivered TODAY (I was especting next Monday)! :D :D :D
It left MacConnection's warehouse Wednesday morning (midnight of Tuesday) and delivering today...and it was to be just an Airborne Express ground shipping too! So when they ship to you, it should be just as fast!

Have patience...your day of rejoice will come in due time...and you know that you have saved "$250 tax + $300 1GB RAM + and $??? Shipping" over people who bought them from Online Apple Store. ;)

Enjoy your new machine. Yes, I did save some money and they are sending my computer by free overnight shipping (when I ordered everything there was a special going on and they said the computer would be sent the same way). I hope they remember.

Hope it gets here by my birthday, which is on the 17th! It would be a great present to myself!
:D

Kathy :)

I called CDW Canada today, just to see if they had any G5 DP2.5s in stock. I figured if they had any in stock I could then legitimately threaten to cancel my order with Apple. I didn't want to have anything to back me up just in case they actually accept my cancellation. CDW Canada didn't have any in stock and wasn't optimistic to see any in September. Dang it.

3 phonecalls and 5 days later....

My G5 online order has finally been cancelled. Been trying to do it since 8-21. Was starting to get worried I'd have 2 2.5's. Happy 2.5 G5 owner with few worries now. Just have to figure out which raid I want to get for video.

Couple thoughts, impressions and pointers...

The CPU portal widget thats included with Konfabulator is really cool. I think I'm running 10 widgets right now since I have the screen real estate. CPU portal coincides perfectly with the span feed ramp ups, and the way it changes colors as %ages rise is really cool. I also have the free temperature sensor program (versiontracker) with processor A's temp always showing in the menu bar (I wish I could put a couple tiny widgets there). Good to see what's happening with temp, the CPU and the fans all at once without having to click anything.

Moving photoshop tool palettes around ramps things up, and moving large windows around in logic does the same. My waves extensions didn't come over in the xfer from the ibook. My mouse extensions for the shuttle pro and the trackball didn't get here either. More setup and customization coming for me still before I start slapping this dual 2.5 around.

The super fast finder is extremely convenient.

I was addicted to the speed when I first booted the machine. Then I got another rush after my 1st and 2nd launch of Safari. Last night after the 1st launch of photoshop, I was BLOWN away by the second launch. Same goes for illustrator, LogicPro, and all other applications big and small.

Preview is like LIGHTNING as is the help menu. I'm getting stuff done so fast I can never reach up and get a sip of tea while I wait for something because.....there IS no waiting! I called tech support to unfreeze the finder when I crashed it (aliases of folders in my networked ibook in the far left menu bar of the G5 - iBook fell asleep & discombobulated the finder) -- and the tech call was SO SHORT - we flew through restarts, log in & outs, creating a master user, etc etc.....VERY addictive. :) :)

Keeping hanging in there gang it really is worth it if U can't grab one at an apple retail or reseller. --E

My G5 is slated to arrive tomorrow, which is wonderful but it presents a problem. I need to get it home from work.

I've got some ideas, but does the box have handles on it?

If it does, then I have no problem. Otherwise I'll have to get a hold of a dolly or something.

Looking at my G5 that just arrived. It has those knock-outs on the sides if that is of any help...but this thing is pretty heavy to lug around all day, especially through public transportation. The weight on the shipping label saids 61 lbs. Just be careful not to hurt your back!

It's Here!!!

It was almost 3pm and I was about to call Fedex to check on my delivery... when my wife said she saw the Fedex truck pull up to our house. I got to the front door just as our nice FedEx lady was wheeling it up on a hand truck!

I immediately opened it up to behold its beauty... no time to hook it up until later tonight, though.

I sure am glad I didn't have to go down to the Apple Store at the Houston Galleria and haul one of these bad boys through the mall and all the way to my car -- they are heavy!!!

I'll report back later and let you know how it handles -- I'm sure I'll be blown away by it's speed -- in comparison to my B&W G3/400 (upgraded to G4/500).

Happy!!!! Happy!!! Joy!!! Joy!!!!

Got it ... Got it ... now, any pointers?

I've had the worst experience buying my first Mac. I ordered a Dual 2.5 G5 with the following specs back on June 28:

- 2.5GHz PowerPC G5
- 1GB RAM
- 160GB HD
- CD-RW/DVD-ROM (didn't get the super drive as I have an external Plextor)
- ATI Rad9800 XT
- Blue Tooth +Apple WrlsKybd & Mouse

I have an external Lacie 250 GB HD so that's why I kept the 160. Didn't want to have to wait for the 6800.

I also ordered some software, .MAC, the Extended Warranty, and the 23" HD Display. The guy I ordered from failed to specify to have all things ship at one time as I asked him to do because I was on my way off to vacation. So the next day the software, warranty, and .mac ship. I called him back and he said oops. I guess that was a harbinger of things to come! So I had a ship date of July 30 on my G5 ... no biggie.

So I wasn't home when the software arrived so FEDEX sends it back to them. Once I get back from vacation, I had to explain to Apple what happened so the resend the software ... I get that. I then get the 23" HD Display. So somewhere around the middle of July I call and ask them about adding the Super Drive to my order and I explicitly state to the rep that I don't want to do it if my ship date gets delayed ... so what does the dummy do .... he cancels my first order and makes a new one. I guess he wanted the commission or something. I get really ticked off because my ship date gets pushed to August 30th. I end up talking to his supervisor about what happened, luckily the guy who messed up was honest with his boss. So the supervisor states that he will contact the personnel in charge of manufacturing and ask that my order be expedited, so I was like cool. I then get a call back from him 2 days later and he said that it was moved up to the first week of August. Recall that this all happened in the middle of July.

The ship date of the first week in August slipped so I called the supervisor back and he said he would keep me posted on what's happening with my order. He used to call me every couple of days and has now stopped. I still haven't gotten my system and I'm really upset. All that talk about an expedited order was a bunch of crap.

All that they've done was to give me free overnight shipping. What should I do. I'm so mad that I wanna cancel but I've already waited this long. For the time I've had to wait ... I wish I would have ordered the 6800 instead of the 9800. I'm so upset

For someone who's decided to switch to Apple ... this has been the WORST experience.

I think that Apple shouldn't charge me for the screw up with the SuperDrive ... what do you guys think??? I need some advice.

Thanks!

Hey all ... I got my first Mac today ... after weeks of waiting and screw ups on Apple's end, my order arrived today. This is the first Apple that I've owned so are there any pointers that you all don't mind sharing.

Sorry I don't know what to ask.

I spent about at $6300 on this system and it's the most money I've ever spent on a computer. Here are the specs:

- Dual 2.5Ghz
- 1 GB RAM
- 9800XT
- Blue Tooth Keyboard & Mouse
- 23" Cinema HD Display

I have 1GB of RAM installed ... where should I buy RAM from? I need more for Video Editing with Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro 3 and Motion!!

I've come across Crucial and Ramjet? Any pointers?

Thanks!

Well I ordered my 2.5 G5 on June 21st, so after hearing all the delays I didn't expect mine to ship any time soon my estimated delivery date was 9/1. But, to my surprise Apple has shipped my G5 on August 25th! And, my fedex tracking number says it will arrive on the 27th which is tomorrow. This is very unexpected I didn't think I would receive this 2.5 G5 until September. There actually ahead of schedule for me. It's crazy.

I've bought pretty much all of my RAM from Crucial.com for a few years now. They also have good prices, have been 100% perfectly reliable, and ship very quickly.

I am waiting for a 2.5 with NV 6800 and I progressed it with Apple today and recieved this email

With regard to our recent conversation, I would like to confirm that your order for the PowerMac G5 is now scheduled to ship on or before September 13th. Please note that product availability can change rapidly and it is possible that your order may ship much sooner than we anticipate.

I did that yesterday. I'm doing some IT consulting for a firm in the Williams (Transco) Tower and they needed a new G5. Seems the 2.5's aren't the only ones people hare having a tough time getting. CDW had over 200 2.0G5s on back order and MacZones had over 40. The Galleria Apple Store had one 1.8 and two 2.0s. They've had the 2.5's trickle in, but are quickly being snatched up.

Carrying that 67lb package back to the office (and a new printer) was fun.

Duff-Man says...right...and when you go their website it says "4-6 days" just like it has since the day Apple announced them.

Can't recall if it has been posted in this thread yet, but Blakespot at MacNN posted some really good pics of the liquid cooling parts ...oh yeah!

From what I've read here and elsewhere, insist on Crucial, if for anything its reliability...'nuff said!

(I will be opting for the minimal amount of memory for my G5 (2.0 or 2.5), removing it, and installing all Crucial...)

Well, after a long and arduous wait... I got the shipment notification! The tracking number currently states that Fed-Ex doesn't have it, but that may not be true! It's quite possible that I will have it tommorrow!

Regardless, thanks to everyone for their kind words and encouragement. Finally my 6/9/04 6:15AM order has shipped! I stress finally!

Good for you brykken! The wait was totally unacceptable. You were the victim of a complete mess from Apple. Now i hope that my order (6/9/04 8:11AM) will come through ... Hey Apple! Canada in only a little bit North of USA... Stop lying to us when you right that orders are fullfilled in the order they were received... and that our damned computer is delayed because 'demand is incredible'...

Hope it get's shipped to you soon man.

Yeah baby! Congrats man! My order didn't show up as being with FedEx until after 8 PM EST tonight, but when it did show up, it showed it'd been picked up at noon PST. So yeah, you might get lucky! I'm really happy for you man!
