Well, after a long and arduous wait... I got the shipment notification! The tracking number currently states that Fed-Ex doesn't have it, but that may not be true! It's quite possible that I will have it tommorrow!

Regardless, thanks to everyone for their kind words and encouragement. Finally my 6/9/04 6:15AM order has shipped! I stress finally!

Congrats!!! I know you've had a heck of a long wait! :)

Tamtam,

I order on July 15th stock 2.5ghz. I did order off there corporate site. I have ordered probably 6 computers and a Canon 1D markII from them. As well as lots of software, memory, etc. They seem to give priority to there corporate customers. I did call on Tuesday to check on a delivery date and they said they were getting 139 in on Wednesday and would make sure I got one. Have no idea where I was on there list. Got about a 5% discount off the normal price too. They use to give 10%.

Thanks and congrats :D

Funny, I thought people might have picked up on the fact that I had a shipping confirmation from a UK Reseller yesterday, but nobody did!

Congrats. Hope you enjoy it.

I must have missed you post yesterday whookam! - great that they are finally moving into europe - I hope you guys in Belgium aren't far behind!

Still waiting for mine. I ordered mine on 8/3 and scheduled delivery is 9/15. I'm currently on a 450 Mgz, so thats going to be a big jump. Also have a 23" Apple LCD on order to accompany my new mac. Also have upgraded all my software, so I'm good to go.

Hardware Test ... please guide me ... new to Mac

Hey all,

I've read on the posts that some of you have been running hardware tests on your new 2.5's ... I just got mine yesterday and set it up. The is the first Mac that I've ever owned and I'm just stunned on how awesome it looks.

Since I'm new to OS X, could any of you guide me on how to run the hardware test?

Thanks a lot ... I'm glad to be part of the Apple community.

Welcome to the family! You will now see what you have been missing...

To boot from a CD such as the hardware test cd just hold down the 'c' key while booting. This makes the computer look to the cd drive first.

After that just select the test to run. I suggest the extended test.

Thanks for the info Roger ... I did all the setup stuff when my machine booted last night ... so I should put the diagnostic CD that came with my system and reboot as you've described?

Sorry about asking for clarification ... new to this!

THanks

No problem. If you want to run the hardware tests then yes. You will not be able to do anything else when booted from that cd as it does not boot the same way.

Just make sure that the cd is in the drive before rebooting. ;)

When it is complete you will reboot again to boot into your normal system.

Thanks!!!

It's here! And I'm typing on it now!! Oh man, it was SOOOOO worth the wait. As much as it sucked it definatly made me appreciate it more! :D

The pictures of the cooling system that Duff-Man linked us to...does it look to anyone else like those processors are actually cooled in series?? And not parallel like they should be? Now I know Apple is smart and so are the people that made the cooling system, but seriously....cooling in series??? I guess that explains why proc B is always warmer than proc A....seems pretty darn stupid to me.

Also, to anyone wanting a RAM upgrade, I will also vouch for Crucial. They shipped 2-day cheaply, I installed with no problems, and ran the extended hardware test with no problems.

It is serial, someone explained it to me a while back, that this wasn't as negative as everybody said, it's a closed circuit, so no parallel cooling is applied, seriously, they will have thought this true hard enough, it's not designed in 1 week you know ;);)

Apparently the liquid is pumped at a sufficiently fast rate that the difference in temperature from one cooling surface to the other is negligible. Unfortunately, Apple's own graphic makes this look like it's not the case...

Regarding the post from someone wanting to strip out the RAM included with the G5 and replacing with Crucial's...doesn't Apple buy their RAM from Crucial (Micron)?

I do agree though, Crucial is a great source for RAM. I've installed their RAm on many computers here in the office, no issue. In fact, on one computer, I had to replace memory from Kingston with Crucial memory.

Mushkin is pretty good too.

Still waiting for my system but then again, I ordered on July 26 and my order status is still reporting a ship on or before date of Sept 8. T minus 12 days. :)

Given what I am reading here about people now receiving theirs, I hope I can get mine before the nice Labor Day weekend. Three days of geeking out with a fast system!

Congrats to all those receiving their machines. Has anyone who was part of the 6800-to-9600 pushback to had a shipping confirmation yet? I'm hoping it will ship sooner than next week, but order status is still saying 9/3. I'm an original 6/9 order and I'm starting to feel lonely with everyone else getting theirs :)

You know, you can buy the computer locally (with edu discounts), and cancel everything but the card. You will pay a minimal amount for the card.

Basically if all you're getting is stock + 6800, just buy the stock in town and keep your 6800.

The Apple retailer can use the EDU discount so there's no reason to get it through Apple online. My friend canceled his G5 but left his card and his card is still on the way here, with a price tag of $405.

Typing your first post on the new dual 2.5. Sure is a great feeling Brykken. I still having a hard time believing the one I'm typing on is actually mine.

Got my G5! and now it looks like it's on its way back to Apple because of a hardware conflict

Looks like I'm back where I started.

Updated Spreadsheet

I was able to clean up alot of missing info. I went into other databases to pick up users that were not in yesterday's spreadsheet. The numbers are a little different than yesterday (lots of delivery notices :) ). I will need the weekend to add charts and make separate entries for those with 6800's on order. Again look it over and if you see your info is missing or incorrect please PM me Okay.

Recieved my G5 today but it is 300 miles away and I can't get it till next week. :D

Don't ask me  I'm just repeating what the tech support guy said. Apparently I'm going to be contact by someone in the next few days for it to be collected and fixed.

Not alot I can do about it, just gotta sit and wait again.

So near, yet so far!
