Don't ask me  I'm just repeating what the tech support guy said. Apparently I'm going to be contact by someone in the next few days for it to be collected and fixed.

Not alot I can do about it, just gotta sit and wait again.

So near, yet so far!

Sorry to hear that. No one should have to go through this after waiting so long.

OK, got a firm confirmation that my machine has been shiped from Apple. Once it gets to my reseller it will be shiped out same day. How long has it taken on average to for macs to get from Cork to mainland UK? 4-5 days?

So in the end only CTO's are being shipped to my reseller so I had my rep phone me up with details of all the incoming orders (they ordered a variety of different CTO configs) so I could choose which one I wanted. I was thinking they might all be upgraded graphics cards or airport etc. and I would have to shell out for stuff I really didn't need. But I was chuffed when they said they had a stock machine with just the modem removed. Saved myself 15 pounds! Well worth the wait from last November!

Anyway, its on its way now.

Still waiting..

Although, last night I realized that if Apple ships it by the date it promised, I only have 5 more days!!!

Ordered 7/12 with 250GB, AP, and 6800 at Edu store from Apple.com
Est. 7/30
Bumped to 8/20
Bumped to 9/3 (for a 9600 with the 6800 being delivered the 17th)

*Crosses fingers*

It took mine exactly a week, shipped on friday, arrived on friday, but I'm in the Channel Islands, so should be a day or so less I'd imagine.

It's Here!

Two months and six days later, my G5 has arrived. Woo! Unfortunately, I'm at work until 5 so I'll have to wait until then to hook it up. Only 5.5 hours until I get to boot this baby up!

Just as I have been saying. I realized that the wait was difficult, the reason for encouragement. Felt confident that your would feel this way.

I 'm very sorry to hear about the hardware conflict that you are having with your G5. Hopefully they will contact you today. After your long wait you should get priority service.

I OWN A DUAL 2.5 G5!!!

It's here!! :) :) :) Got here last night. I tried to get onto this site to post, but the database was wacky.

Anyway, it is all setup and looking good. The FedEx truck showed up at 3:30, and then DHL was 20 minutes later with my apple production suite which I eagerly installed.

So far it is a champ! I installed Combustion as well and played through a project. It didn't even hesitate to render through and playback my files, althought the fans did kick into high gear during playback for a minute. Do the processors really get that hot that quick? Motion looks like it will be a lot of fun, but I'm not sold on giving up Combustion for it.

I'll post some pics of my studio setup. I figured you've seen enough fedex guy pics and fresh box opening sessions, that I will let you refer to other posters for that.

Cheers!

By the way, I ordered this thing June 9th... only 78 days ago!

I hope that you will have plenty of project planned to occupy you mind. Otherwise it could be a long 5.5 hours. The best part is that you will have the weekend to set up your G5.

Tamtam,

How do we get added to your list?

G5dp2.5 ordered 7.26.04
1GB RAM
160GB HD
9600xt video card
BlueTooth
Final Cut Express

Estimated to ship before or on September 8, 2004

Apple Ed Individual Order

Pennsylvania

Anyone know what happened to GeckoHD's website?

Thanks!

Now if only Apple Distribution could be as efficient! :D

I shouldn't complain, there are still others on the list who've been there for a lot longer.

tamtam, thx for updating the spreadsheet! But my info isn't correct, I didn't get a tracking number, nor an estimated date, my reseller thinks it'll be another 2 weeks, so that puts me around the 13th of september.

keep it up!

Thank you tamtam for taking on such an important task. It makes for a community feeling among those that are waiting. Important that everyone is there to encourage each other. It helps to know that you are not alone.

I think that it look ugly, even though I'm partial to blue. It is very sad. That person has ruined the G5. Wondering if this is a facetious listing. The interior seems to have items remove. It real, I pray that someone isn't tricked. In the end it would hurt Apple. :(

It appears to be a modded PC case. I think someone is attemping to clone the G5.

For those of you with hardware problems...how did you assertain that? Was it obvious from the get go? I just got my 2.5 yesterday and I am (probably overly) paranoid that I might miss something and have to send it back.

At where I work we recently had to reorder another processor for a dual 2.0 G5 which went bad and wouldn't even let the system boot up.

Paranoia strikes!

P.S. that G5 mod looks like some serious bad news.

Mine is shipping !

Just spoke to some chap at Apple and it should arrive in Barcelona mid next week.
It left cork a couple of days ago and arrived in Holland yesterday.

Anyone else in mainland Europe had a mac ship from Ireland, how long did it take ?

Keep it coming and thanks

Klaus:

What you just did by pointing out the errors in the spreadsheet is great and very important for everyone to understand. This is a tool for everyone to use to see trends or get comfort from others in the same situation. I need everyone to check my work because if it is not accurate then it has no value.

It's good to be appreciated. Thanks to you and everyone else who have said nice things. It puts more wind in my sails to continue the updates.

tamtam

EDIT: I just realized how close we are to 4000 Good luck guys :)

Mine's was pretty obvious, just didn't boot up. I've not come across anyone that's had that sort of problem before with the 2.5's, I'm sure it was just a freak one or at the very least rare.

I wouldn't get paranoid, just look at how many people from this thread are happily working compared to people that have had problems.

They say these things come in threes, and it was 1 of 3 moments of bad luck in the past 3 days!

I was searching through eBay for memory for my 2.0 GHz G5 and decided to see if anyone had posted any 2.5's yet.

I came across this and thought is was funny.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=51036&item=5716361202&rd=1

This is quite obviously a scam and should be reported to eBay. I can't believe the auction is nearly over and has 35 bids. No one has access to the parts to make the G5 and they sure wouldn't fit in that case. There is only one company I heard of that makes Apple clones and last I checked their web page (don't have the address or company name, sorry) they were "temporarily" out of business for obvious reasons.

I promised myself that I wouldn't get into trying to get a certain post number but hey...

By the way thanks everyone for all the tracking sheets. Fascinating to see something of a bigger picture of who's getting a G5 or not.

I have noticed a on going trend of people buying a DP2.5 and 23". I am assuming either people really like the eye candy or actually need that large of a screen. Anyway I am going to be purchasing a DP2.5, 250HD, 512 Mem and 23" display once my student ADC membership goes through and I had a few questions. Would it be worth waiting a few extra weeks for the 6800s or would the 9800XT be more than sufficient enough for use of Maya/Lightwave and Production Suite? My second question would be has anyone tried this memory in specific Click here plz :) I know everyone recommends crucial but after blowing ~$5000 it would be nice to save some money.

I am glad to hear everyone computer is coming in but it is brutal knowing I haven't even ordered yet let alone started waiting. :(

EDIT: Yeah 4000th Post
