I am also in the group of those bumped from 9/3 to 9/14. I called ADC as soon as it occured and lodged a complaint. I informed them that what pissed me off was that they were shipping in an order that has nothing to do with when they were placed. So now when the developer team calls to bitch ME out, I need some ammo.

If anybody out there placed an order AFTER JUNE 11th AND HAD IT SHIP, please drop me your web order number through a PM or whatever, especially if the computer was not stock. I need to actually give these schmucks proof.

Oh, and my order number's first three digits are W846. Thanks. :)

I feel sorry for anyone who chose the 9/13 date to get the dual 2.5 with the 6800 Ultra card internal. Their delays will probably push them into october.

No problem at all, it's cool. I just hope that after the vent, all is right. ;)

Okay. So here's my sad story:

I ordered a Dual 2.5 G5 w/ nvidia 6800 on July 4th. Original estimated shipping date "Mid-August". Not too long after got changed to "Aug. 31st or sooner". No problem there - I leave for school Sept. 10th. I'm a Visual FX major - with a focus on 3d work. Then it got post-poned to Sept 3rd w/ a Radeon 9600 XT. That created a problem with me leaving for school. So I called Apple, and upgraded my shipping for $40 to 2-3 day shipping.

Problem solved.

September 4th (today) rolls around, with no e-mail from apple of any sort. I call them. They say I should have received an e-mail saying it wasn't shipping till the 17th. I asked if I was still getting my free 9600 XT - the guy couldn't' confirm, but said it didn't seem likely. I asked if I could have the shipping address changed to my school address. He said no - my order was partially shipped (the printer) and he can no longer make changes. I said okay, can I get my shipping status changed to 5-7 days - now that there's no way on earth it'll be here before i leave for college. He said no (although he did give me some coupon for a reduced shipping rate).

So here I am. Leaving for college in a few days, and now I have to go out and buy a $100+ external-harddrive so I can put all my files on it - since I have sold my current computer (and no - I can't simply burn 100 CDs, I have several files that are much larger than a CD-R). I lost $40-ish (maybe less) on my upgraded shipping method - which won't even ship to my school address - so my parents are going to have to then turn around, and then pay an extra $50+ to ship my G5 to me at school in 7-10 business days. And I'm probably not going to see my G5 until October - or have any computer till then.

And this is the best Apple can do. I am very, very dis-satisfied in the customer service I am getting.

Reseller update

Well, for the guys that have read the entire thread, or were here from the beginning, did you remember someone saying resellers were only receiving BTO-g5's, and for now no stock orders?

Well, if you do remember it, apparently that story still counts for our european resellers, and sadly enough for me as well. I ordered a stock machine especially because my rep told me that BTO machines usually take a while longer to be delivered, which seems logical to me, since they have to reconfigure the machine, and maybe testdrive it again. So I trusted that advice, and ordered a stock one. My rep said I was the first one in the queue to receive my g5. I emailed him a few times, and there weren't any in as of today, so I mailed this other rep, which I know from a while back, and explained this story to him, and said I knew of some BTO machines coming in at some dutch resellers. He replied, and confirmed they also have gotten a few BTO 2.5's in, but he had no idea when the standard ones should arrive. He'd let me know on monday.

Okay, so where do I stand? I'm trying to find an explanation for the fact that only BTO machines are arriving. Could it be that BTO's are ordered specifically on that customer's name, while stock machines are ordered in batches of like 20-30 machines, on the reseller's name. And when they get those stock machines in, they just look at their list and see who's first to have one. So basically Apple does not know that stock machine is for me, while they do know that BTO machine is for person X, so they give that guy priority, while he may have ordered a month later than me.

Don't know if this could be true, maybe, maybe not. If I don't have an ETA on monday, i'll ask him if he can switch it to a BTO machine for me, but only if it gets my machine quicker of course.

Anyway..still waiting for a while I guess.. and for those that ordered stock through reseller (europe) as well.. keep waiting..

DP report

I ordered 07/30 and received the darn thing on 8/30. Therefore, I have had time to play with the computer for some days now.
1. It´s a huge beast (It stands about 25% taller than a b/w g3).
2. It´s not exactly quiet but also not noisy. There is a slight fan hum that can be just discerned in a moderately quiet environment (I live in a very quiet neighborhood in a medium size city).
3. Upgrading from a Ti Book using the assistant provided worked like a charm. I only had to re-install Stuffit, Netbarrier, and Virusbarrier. (Office, Endnote, Statview, Mail, Network prefs ... o.k.).
4. Speedwise, the upgrade from a b/w G3 upgraded to a Sonnet G4 1GHz is ok. Ripping CDs (AAC 192) is between 15-20X which is quite cool. You may actually choose to scroll long graphics intensive documents in MS Word - it´s not a great but also no a very annoying experience.

Overall, I´m happy. I´m going to sell this supermarket PC that I bought just to do text processing as MS Word sucked big time on the Mac.

However, this liquid cooling thing makes me sweat - computers and water somehow don´t mix. I am going to get APPLE CARE on this baby for sure.
Good luck to you guys with your DG2.5 - I´m happy
Cheers

Another Delay for my 2.5

I just got another email that my dual 2.5 is delayed, this time from Sept. 3 to Sept. 17 and the NVIDIA 6800 to the Sept. 24......ahhhhhhhhh.

I ordered mine JUNE 10th and the first 3 digits of my order number are 845. Sounds like everyone else that ordered theirs at that time or before has gotten theirs.

Doesn't seem like Apple is handling orders in the order they were received. Am I the only one at JUNE 10th or earlier that hasn't gotten theirs or are there others in my position too?

Well now - I called Apple and told them that I was moving on the 10th of September (and I seriously am), and that I needed my G5'ss shipping address changed. They still wouldnt' let me. Said it had to be shipped now to that address, then if nobody signed for it, it would come back to Apple where they'd further contact me and ship it to my new address. Problem with that is, the guy said, there's an estimated 2-3 week turnaround period.

this is UNACCEPTABLE. Why, oh why can I not change my shipping address? I asked if I could whine to a manager and have him change it, and the guy said that managers didn't even have the ability to do that - that it was locked in the system.

I'm going to have to buy an external hard-drive, back up all my files (as I've sold my computer to a neighbor), then go computer-less for a month and a half till Apple straightens this out. Am I rightly angry? Or am I being blinded by my anger right now - and Apple's position is understandable?

Ah, even if there's truly nothing that they can do, you're in a pretty good position to be pissed off. After all, you ordered the machine with what any rational person would have throught was adequate time and then they delayed it to the point that there's no way it'll make it.

I know that you had a pretty sweet G5 set up, but is there any chance you can cancel and pick up a stock config from an Apple store or reseller? It might be worth it to just be done with all this crap. I mean, watching it ship, tracking it, watching it getting returned to Apple, tracking it, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, then watching them FINALLY ship out your machine just in time for the Thanksgiving break...

Am I getting ripped off here or are there others in my position too? I did get a custom configuration instead of a stock option, so I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
Duff-Man says....have you paid them any money yet? Have they charged your credit card and then not shipped anything? Delayed....yes....ripped off....no. hang in there....the 2.5 is worth the wait....oh yeah!

Yep, that was me. It seems to be true. Except, I changed my ordered from Stock to CTO in order to get my machine quicker. My reseller ordered a variety of CTO machines that they thought people might order, these seemed to arrive in a random order. These machines were not customer specific.

What configuration did you order? In my experience talking to Apple, you're going to need to find someone else with the same configuration who ordered later and received their machine. Otherwise they use the configuration difference as the reason (whether or not it makes much sense). You may also have to find another ADC order.

That's odd. ADC didn't have a problem changing my shipping address. I originally had mine shipped to home, but when it got delayed beyond the time that I was moving to college, I called them up and asked to change it. After checking with the supervisor, they came back on the line and put it into the system. It updated online by the end of the day.

New G5 purchased at Apple store

I sure don't understand how some loyal Apple customers who ordered upon the announcement of the 2.5 dual G5 are still waiting.

Not to make anyone feel bad, but I was able to purchased a stock 2.5 dual G5 today at the Apple store.

As Henry Lee said on testimony at the OJ Simpson trial: "Something wrong here..."

Of course, I'm really thankful.

My nephew, who's no switcher YET, will be at school in 2 weeks, studiying audio and video. That school bought a bunch of g5's last year, and I was always making fun of the fact I would be fooling around with a g5 a lot earlier than he could.. Guess I'll be slapped in the face over this one :p

okay..thx for the vent guys, hope you don't mind, I didn't offend anyone here, just expressed my feelings at the moment.

This is the best place for venting... we understand you. Hopefully you'll have yours soon.

Mine went from Rancho Cordova to Sacremento California, and left there at 9:30 this morning, hopefully for the east and closer to Ottawa, Canada.

The first 3 digits of my order is 843.

Hi, I PMed you my info.

The reason, they said, was because part of my order had shipped (the printer) and once that happens, nothing more can be done by them to change the ship address. Did you have any parts of your order ship separately already? If so, I'll be quite upset, cause the guy I talked to assssssurrrrrreed me that if I spoke to a manager/supervisor, they too could not change the shipping address.

Nay, nay! W838, 06/03 upgrade to dual 2.5 on 06/14 and still not here.

I was on vacation, and on Friday, I decided to call up to ask if my G5 had shipped (the est. date was 9/3 even on 9/3). I was told that my date was bumped to Sep. 14, but that they are happy to give me a free gift valued at $99. Of course, the only thing I could think of, Airport Express, was $129. He consulted with his supervisor twice: the first time concluding that I'd have to supplement the $30, and the second, agreeing to just give me AE for free as I've already been bumped 4 times and have waited 3 months.

Although it would have really been nice to have the G5 before school starts (Tuesday), there's nothing that can be done.

The 14th better hold or else I'll miss a 4-day weekend to use the G5 without distracting me from school.

Has anyone else been offered gifts for this latest delay?

Airport Express compensation...

Goodevening folks!

I too, was able to get a free Airport Express for the delay to the 14th of September. The person I spoke with didn't offer compensation; he said that I already received compensation by having my shipping changed to "priority overnight". I, in a polite way, informed him that the shipping change was not enough. This is when I requested a free Airport Express. After being on hold for one hour, he said that he was able to get it approved by his supervisor. I guess this pads the pain a little. I'm a doctoral student in music composition and really need the computer for an Advanced Electronic Music class that I am currently taking. My B&W G3 400 Mhz can barely run the software that we have to use. Oh well, perhaps it will ship before the 14th and suprise me. Only time will tell.
