Well, we all know IBM is the main chain in this fiasco that's broken or needs to get fixed. However, these problems do NOT prevent Apple from communicating correctly towards online customers (all stores), Apple stores, resellers, independent dealers, etc. I simply cannot understand that for example you call Apple for an explanation, you can get two different ones from different persons!? That's ridiculous, their external communication needs to improve drastically, but their internal system as well. I for one, have no real trouble with the delays itself, but it's the way it is handled by Apple. Some of you guys got set back up to 4 times, sure you received compensation, but that shouldn't be necessary if they targeted your date in an appropriate timeframe, not 1 month delay or more. I ordered through a reseller, that means I have no ETA, cause the reseller knows nothing as well, and I simply cannot demand compensation of any kind.

That's one thing, the other thing is their 'random' shipping to customers. I'm fron the benelux (belgium) and I believe that falls under Apple Benelux, so I'd think the netherlands and belgium are treated the same. I know of a guy who ordered online at the apple store the 19th of august. Well, guess what, he received his machine the 30th of august. An 11 day waitnig period! Can you believe that? While people ordering from apple 2 MONTHS earlier still don't have theirs.

My nephew, who's no switcher YET, will be at school in 2 weeks, studiying audio and video. That school bought a bunch of g5's last year, and I was always making fun of the fact I would be fooling around with a g5 a lot earlier than he could.. Guess I'll be slapped in the face over this one :p

okay..thx for the vent guys, hope you don't mind, I didn't offend anyone here, just expressed my feelings at the moment.

Klaus, you hit the nail on the head. You can send this to apple belgium, I am curious to hear their response.

Ok, I got the shipping email today, my order shipped yesterday, without the 6800 but it shipped! I called on Friday when it was originally supposed to ship and managed to get free overnight shipping on both card and computer. But in my email it says FedEx ground, should I be concerned about that? Or is it just saying that but it will actually be overnight? Even if it is overnight i'm not expecting it until wed because of the whole labor day weekend, but ground could take a long agonizing while.

Goodevening folks!

I too, was able to get a free Airport Express for the delay to the 14th of September. The person I spoke with didn't offer compensation; he said that I already received compensation by having my shipping changed to "priority overnight". I, in a polite way, informed him that the shipping change was not enough. This is when I requested a free Airport Express. After being on hold for one hour, he said that he was able to get it approved by his supervisor. I guess this pads the pain a little. I'm a doctoral student in music composition and really need the computer for an Advanced Electronic Music class that I am currently taking. My B&W G3 400 Mhz can barely run the software that we have to use. Oh well, perhaps it will ship before the 14th and suprise me. Only time will tell.

Wowsa. Where did you order the computer through? ADC says they can't offer any stuff because of the already low low price. I suppose getting a fully decked out G5 for $2,700 is a nice reward.

Anyways... The goddam thing actually shipped! Checked my email this morning and it shipped at 1 am this morning. It's priority overnight, but the bitch is that it won't get here till wednesday. Ah well... Now I just have to hope it's not DOA. :D

2.5 G5 w/250 HD/BT/AE + 1 gig Crucial
20' Aluminum Display
250 Gig LaCie External
Ordered ADC 6/11 Shipped 9/5. Hoping it's worth the wait...

The reason, they said, was because part of my order had shipped (the printer) and once that happens, nothing more can be done by them to change the ship address. Did you have any parts of your order ship separately already? If so, I'll be quite upset, cause the guy I talked to assssssurrrrrreed me that if I spoke to a manager/supervisor, they too could not change the shipping address.
Unfortunately no. I changed my order before anything shipped (I just had the G5 and the 6800, no peripherals at all). Still, I see no valid reason that they wouldn't be able to do that. I would call back up and ask to speak to a supervisor about it, regardless of what they tell you will happen or not happen. I've been getting the distinct impression that Apple recently hired some new customer support people, because it's been about 50-50 whether I get someone who is highly knowledgeable or not.

My web order begins 754 I must be first in the queue, unless you know better.
745xxx too, and no G5 yet :(

The 6800 card is late ... too late !
ADC order made on 6/19, and on Apple Order Status, still 'On or before 8/20"

Got a phone call from Aplestore to say "delayed to 9/13", confirmed by mail. But as 6800 is'nt available before late october, I can't imagine how they can deliver the G5 on 9/13 ...

Airport Express compensation...

My order was an EDU order placed at the online Apple store. I placed the order on June 19th with a July 31st ship date. Once the Nvidia card was announced, I upgraded my video card; this pushed my ship date to Aug 31st. Got the first email saying that there were delays and that it would ship by Sep 3rd. Then a second email pushing it to Sep 17th. And then finally an email saying that it would ship by the 14th. This is when I called for compensation in the form of an Airport Express. By the way, the first three digits of my web order are: 854. Does anyone know if mine will ship before the 14th? Thanks!

Did you receive notification that your order would be pushed back to the 14th? If so, and yours shipped, then that gives the rest of us hope. :)

Yessir. I did get that dreaded 9/14 push back email. I also called ADC as soon as I got it and lodged a complaint. The operator said that she sent an email to the Developer higher-ups. I don't know if that was what caused it. I would wait till tuesday morning before you call them up... actually that is the earliest they'll be open. I posted by three digits a few posts earlier if that helps. Good luck to us all!

Well, after talking to a manager I got the same b.s. They said they have some contract w/ fed-ex or something and since my order partially shipped, they can't change the address (I didn't understand it - makes no sense to me.)

I could A) cancel and re-order - and start all over on the waiting list. B) Be at my house / have a friend be at my house the day the machine arrives to pick it up. (I'm moving across 2 states, so...). C) If nobody picks it up, Fed Ex will return it to Apple, and after an estimated 12-14 days they'd ship it back out to a new address of my choosing.

Oh well. I'm happy for all of you who just got their G5 shipped last night! Brings hope I might get mine before I leave Friday morning. Regardless, I'm still waiting on an e-mail saying my G5 will not be shipping the 3rd of Sept. Anybody else not get an e-mail saying their G5 has / has not shipped on the 3rd?

Well - sorry - but it doesn't look like I'm done venting.

It will take 2-3 more weeks after my Sept 17th ship date for me to receive my mac, because I'm moving and Apple will not change my shipping address. They keep expressing their sincere apologies for the inconveniences this is causing me, and that they understand and sympathise with my situation, but are unable to do anything about it.

Iif they WERE really sorry, and sympathized, they'd (the managers) would get the managers above them involved. And if they couldn't do anything, and they realized it was a problem, they'd get the people above them, and so forth until somebody either fixed the problem, or until somebody didn't care.

So dont' tell me your'e sorry if you aren't going to do anything about it.

(And as to all of you, I am sorry - I just really need to vent... better here than in front of my family...)

bet

hello all, my first post at macrumors, but ive been following this thread since the beginning. I orderd an EDU BTO 2.5 on 7/14. I spent three weeks trying to decide between the 2.0 and the 2.5, and eventually i decided i had might as well spend the most and get the best, after all the 2.0 is over a year old. First ship date was 8/26, but was later bumped to 9/3, and now 9/14, which will be 2 whole months after placing my order. i know many of you 6800'rs have been waiting since day one, so i hope you all get your mac soon. I was cool with the 9/3 date, seeing how i orderd in mid-july, but now im starting to get really anxious. i suppose ill call apple tues. see if theyll give me some money back or a free airport card or something. my order # begins with 876. Its totally stock, except BT+Wrls kb and mouse. Oh and, i had the modem taken out. im only going to use it for audio and video production, dont even want a network connection bogging me down. the best part about my near-future setup is that ill be running it through an old Apple 17-inch ColorSync display that came with a beige PM G3 a neighbor was throwing out. its a nice crt for free. I think i can run it at at least 1028x768... gotta save up for something nicer though...

It wouldn't hurt to call Apple again just to recheck, but chances are they didn't have a chance to make the change in the E.Mail. You still should get ti sooner.

Hi all. For what it's worth, I placed my order on July 4. I ordered a custom 2.5 from the Canadian Educational store with a 20" cinema display, applecare and an isight. The isight, monitor and applecare all shipped to Canada via Sameday couriers, but I just got my shipment notice for the computer itself and its going by FedEx. Seems to me that if the contract is flexible enough to do partial shipments by one courier, changing addresses shouldn't be a big deal. Good luck

IT ARRIVED!!!!!!!!!

Firstly, I am very sorry to see so many of you still waiting after so long now, it HAS been a real fiasco, and I hope you get your orders resolved soon!...

Mine, just arrived a few minutes ago (UK) - I just got out of the shower, the dog started getting restless and pricking up his ears, I looked out the bedroom window to see a guy with a sack barrow and a big black box coming through the gate!!!! - I nearly fell down the stairs in readiness to open the door, realised I was nekked, and flew back up (literally!) to find some clothing - I didn't get any photos subsequently (haven't we seen enough by now anyway?) but I can attest to the weight as I struggled to get the bugger upstairs without a CTO Hernia added to the order! :D

Anyway - I am going to open it now and find out whether the journey from Cork to the Netherlands and back via a couple of TNT depots has seen the G5 well or not! - wish me luck!!

ooh, and lastly, I may well pop in to the thread from time to time to see the progress, but since it has absorbed so much of my time recently, I figure I'd best just play with my new puter for a while.. but to everyone past and present on the thread..THANKS!! - the wait was made more bearable, more informed, quite educational, and often quite fun despite the many downs... good luck y'all! :D

Try calling the following number: (408) 996-1010. That's listed as the number for Apple corporate headquarters. They will likely be able to put you in contact with at least a secretary high-up in the company. In large companies, usually the secretary to the CEO is the best bet when you really need to get something done and they've screwed you over. At any rate, it's worth a try. At least they will be people that can get things done, instead of the customer support people who have to go by the book.

Morning Klaus,

i'm supposed to get my 2.5 today.
Only took em 12 days to deliver it after the shipping notification.
I've received 3 23" displays so far, all having the same contrast problem.

Morning rob, 3 replacements and all 3 of them with the contrast problem?

If that happens to me, i think i'll ask for a refund and buy a 20", but then again, there are good displays around as well, so I might hang in.

Maybe i'm lucky, and my display works fine from the first time.

What is the exact issue you are having?

On the left and right side of the screen, colors are a bit 'whiter' than in the middle of the screen
Didnt have this problem with the old 20"
I noticed it while running pixel tester
None of em had any dead pixels though
