Firstly, I am very sorry to see so many of you still waiting after so long now, it HAS been a real fiasco, and I hope you get your orders resolved soon!...

Mine, just arrived a few minutes ago (UK) - :D

congrats. Mine has a mark on the side door but I'm not bothered. Most of the time it's whisper quiet, (mostly).. it's miles better than the 1.42 DP G4 I use at work.
I'd like to use 2 monitors with mine, Does anone in the UK have an apple DVI-VGA adapter their not using. I agree, it's been great reading all these quotes, "misery loves company". If it wasn't for you all I'd still be thinking non were in the country. Hope it won't be long before were all proud owners.

My second 23" display just arrived. Thats it. Order done. I dont have to talk to Apple anymore (touch wood). Starting to think two screens might have been a little too over the top - I didnt realise how huge these things are!

gecko, do you have issues with your 23" (forgive me if I asked this before, cause I don't remember it, and too lazy to go 180 pages back :))

It has become one of those three day weekends for most workers to enjoy the day off. It is the traditional end of summer. The end of vacations. People return to a usual routine of school and work. Today offers a lot of store specials.

GeckoHD, hope that you will enjoy your second 23" Cinema Display. I'm that it will provide much pleasure.

I have been waiting FOREVER!!!

Congratulations to those of you who have recieved your computers already. I originally placed my order on May 22 for a Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5. I then upgraded to a Dual 2.5GHz computer and received conformation of my upgrade on June 10. I have spoken to so many Apple representatives (sales people and supervisors) that I feel dizzy - and really disappointed. I really enjoy Apple's products, and would never switch to the "dark side", but this is the worst customer service I've ever received! My ship date has been changed ca. 5 times (can't remember the exact number). My new ship date is "on or before 9/7". I have an ancient 9600, so I am obviously dying to get my hands on this new computer, but also because I bought lots of new software thinking (stupidly) that Apple couldn't possibly go more than two months over the original ship date. Man - was I wrong!!!

So, here's what I want to know:

• Do their ship dates mean anything?

• Do they really ship orders "in the order received," or do they ship to Apple stores, academic stores and "prefered customers" or VIP's first?

• Do the web order numbers indicate any sort of shipping order? For instance, if mine starts with 828, does that mean anything?

• Do custom outfitted computers slow down your order?

• Is there any one component that I could ask them to remove that would get my order to me?

• For having waited this long, is there anything in particular I should ask for as compensation for all of the work I've lost, delayed jobs, etc.?

I would be so grateful for any helpful comments. I am so jealous of all of you who have received your computers already! :)

Order placed!

After many months of torturous waiting while my student loan disbursed, I have FINALLY placed my order to Apple:

Dual 2.0 G5
RAM bumped up to 1 GB

20" Alu display

The G5 ships in 5-7 days, and the display in 1-3 days! Woo-hoo!

I'm finally replacing my aging 800 MHz G3 iBook, which will be used for on-campus work, etc.

I'm VERY, VERY excited!!!!!

happy for you, but wrong thread - helloooo? This is for the 2.5 machines. Harumph.

Yipee!!!!!! It shipped!!!!!!!!!

Howdy folks!

I decided to check my order status for the 20th time today and low and behold, my G5 appeared with a FedEx tracking number! Woo-hoo!!! My order number was W854... This is great! On Friday, because my ship date was pushed from the 3rd to the 14th, I was able to get a free Airport Express for compensation. With the Priority Overnight upgrade that Apple gave me, I will probably receive it the same time had it shipped on the 3rd with normal ground shipping. If I'm not making a whole lot of sense right now, please forgive me. I'm just really excited! I'll keep y'all posted as things happen!

To quote Mr. James III,

My order was an EDU order placed at the online Apple store. I placed the order on June 19th with a July 31st ship date. Once the Nvidia card was announced, I upgraded my video card; this pushed my ship date to Aug 31st. Got the first email saying that there were delays and that it would ship by Sep 3rd. Then a second email pushing it to Sep 17th. And then finally an email saying that it would ship by the 14th. This is when I called for compensation in the form of an Airport Express. By the way, the first three digits of my web order are: 854. Does anyone know if mine will ship before the 14th? Thanks!

Duff-Man says...I don't know what part of Canada you are in, but here in BC today is one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Almost every store is open and doing brisk business with all those last minute back-to-school sales...oh yeah!

Quick question: does Apple no longer include the nice little white stickers with their computers? I always can find uses for those things, but my PM didn't come with them this time around. Or is it only for the "consumer" machines? I just realized this while I was looking at some other Apple stuff.

Duff-Man says...I got a couple with my new Dual 2.5 - they were in the package with all the documentation...oh yeah!

Thanks, Duff-Man. I guess in my huge hurry to rip open the box and see my new toy, I completely forgot to look inside the packet with all the relatively-boring books ;)

It arrived...

Hi guys,

Well the wait is over for me. After ordering in the 23/8 I got my shiny new G5 yesterday morning. Like others have posted here, it's well worth the wait, it's an awesome machine. Ridiculously fast, suprisingly quiet and well worth the money. :)

Will be keeping an eye on the heat issues some have mentioned, will post if there are any anomalies. Have used one app which puts the processors at at around 70 - 80 c while using Safari but two other apps which put the temp much lower. Can anyone recommend a more reliable app to gauge the internal temp??
