Hello all fellow mac men, women

Ok when I read the mail I get quite pissed and I dont usually get pissed. I call applestore ready to shout at somebody, and get this nice girl on the line that I have talked with before. I can't whine to a nice girl with a french accent that's probably a nice looking one too!(and she's working at apple so she's cool) So I end up being really nice to her and she give's me priority on my order. Dont know if that helps alot but it may...

Welcome to the discussion, nanumac. This is a great place for everyone to commiserate during the long waiting process. I agree that it's difficult to be angry with a nice sounding young lady.

Guys

I haven't posted for a while, partly because I was away in Scotland for a week and had to catch up on what I missed. Thought I would post in case my news helps anyone and to keep Klaus etc company. Its been a bit quiet on the thread over the long US weekend.

My G5 (with 6800) was originally meant to ship from Applestore UK by 24th August. I rang them that morning and they said it would ship that day. I made a point of telling them that it was with a 6800. Anyway the next day they sent me an email saying it was delayed until 13th of September. They don't seem to be offering us the other graphics card and then the upgrade. In the email they said that they would credit my Applestore account with £150. I was grateful but annoyed that they couldn't reduce the cost of my original order by that.

I rang again today. Again saying that my order was with a 6800 and that they are saying on their website that this card is not available until the end of October, for new orders. The person I spoke with still claims my Mac will ship by Monday with a 6800. I am not convinced.

Anyway I spent the £150 on a Aiport Card and Express, before they could take that away. It will probably arrive before the G5.

Cheers everyone. Its still the most enthralling thread ever! I miss the old guys though. They never seem to write anymore.

You dont´t have it shipped? And it´s a standard setup? I feel for you.
When I ordered my first gen Ipod I also waited for ages. I sure hope they don´t upgrade the pm line 6 month´s after the 2,5´s release....

Argh, FU Apple.
They tell me it shipped yesterday, but because of Labor Day, it was not picked up. So priority overnite means tomorrow. I stayed home all day for nothing.

My email with the same ETA (13 Sept) said that I COULD apply the discount to the existing order -- and I did. It actually works out to about £176 because they deducted £150 pre-VAT

If they do slip up again, I am going to demand more -- or cancel outright. Maybe if they could throw in an iSight, or maybe the new Production bundle of software.

I was at the Apple Expo in Paris over the weekend my unit was originally supposed to arrive, and let me tell you -- it soothed me somewhat to see a lot of beautiful G5 2.5's and dual 30" monitors (I can only afford one).

But what struck me is that the iMac bundle in France is more robust than those offered in the UK or US. Still, the G5 DPs come with nothing. Nada. No freebies.

Hi guys,
Well the wait is over for me. After ordering in the 23/8 I got my shiny new G5 yesterday morning. Like others have posted here, it's well worth the wait, it's an awesome machine. Ridiculously fast, suprisingly quiet and well worth the money. 🙂

what wait? you ordered in august.

This threads rapidly making it's way to the 5000 mark... but surely it couldn't reah 10000... or could it? 😱

I envy you guys, for anyone still waiting for their machine, be excited that you got something to look forward to! For over a week mine's been waiting to be picked up for repair because apple tech support couldn't get their systems to recognise the Channel Islands! Won't be so bad once it's gone, I'll feel like I'm back in the club with you guys, it's not nice seeing it sitting in the hallway everytime I walk through the front door.

Trick not treat

According to some articles over at Appleinsider, Apple is notifying customers awaiting their 30" displays that they may not get them until October 25!

http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=634

I have been reassured that I will get mine (along with the 2.5 G5), and they are shipping Monday 13 September.

Fingers crossed!

Check out my recent post.........

http://www.macosrumors.com/90604A.php 😱

I followed that site since last november when they said there would be updates last january. 9 months later i have my rev. b.

i would take anything posted there with an enormous grain of salt. apples having enough of a problem getting the rev b's out the door. i have a feeling the rev c is quite a ways off.

just my 2c though.

RAM Upgrade & System Profile

Just went to Costco and I was suprised to see they have SimpleTech PC3200 DDR400 RAM. Price was good too, about $87.00 per 512 MB. I bought a couple of sticks, threw it in my 2.5 G5 and it seems to work great.

Looking at System Profile, I see the original Apple RAM is:

PC3200U-30330

The new RAM I put in is:

PC3200U-25330

Anyone know what the last 5 digits signify? My guess is speed but what speed and how much?

Thanks to anyone who can clear this up. I even called tech support at the RAM vendor and they were clueless.

Dual 2.5GHz PowerMac in 4 days!

I ordered one of these phenomenal beasts from macconnection Friday evening and amazingly received it just after lunch today! Not sure whether they have more in stock, but for those of you waiting for other suppliers, it might be worth checking out!

Just to sweeten the deal even more, macconnection are throwing in an extra gig of RAM.

And no, I have no relationship to macconnection other than being a very satisfied customer!

Stocking Mystery....

FYI - the Palo Alto Store in California had three in stock as well. They even offered to take my 23inch back and then re sell it to me so that the G5 was on the same order and thus under Apple Care.... VERY NICE OFFER - but I want the bigger drive and I want to sell the "FREE" 9600XT card for a little money on Jan or March 2006 when my 68000 card ships. Not to mention that Apple gave me $100 credit at online store.... so I decided to continue to wait.... but that mean three of you do not have to wait.... 😛

Thursday will be my three month anniversary of my order. I'm gonna celebrate with beer and mounds hope that it WILL ship on the 13th.... 😱

Cheers!

Irie

I don't know what the last three numbers symbolize, but if I remember correctly, the first 2 numbers (30 and 25) symbolize the CAS latency of the chips. The 30 for the Apple OEM RAM has CAS 3.0, whereas the Simpletech RAM has 25, meaning CAS 2.5. Generally, the lower the CAS latency, the faster the RAM performs. However, since all RAM in a system can only run at the greatest latency, everything in your system will run at 3.0.

Hello to every one around the world, I have not posted for a while, but I have some very bad news. Straight from apple. I just read about the 30inch display and the 6800 problem, soooo I called apple talked to the very nice manager and I asked if my ship date for the 6800 on the 17th of sept. was going to ship on time. He said I am very sorry Dustin but no one will get a 6800 before the 25th of october. Most of the orders will be shipped in november. I said fine I should just wait tell the 3ghz comes out, he said don't plan on it coming out any time soon. So I hope every one sleeps nice and dreams of sugar plums and apples tonight.....hahaha

6800?

Hey Numark -

Just curious - you sig says you have a 6800 in your Dual 2.0 G5... is that true and if so where did you get it? Is that the PC version that works in the Mac or did you get your hands on a new one some how... 😕

Partially, I suspect, because they don't wish to rub salt in the wounds and also because they're too busy playing. 😀 I suspect, however, that there are still plenty of the lucky ones (such as myself) lurking and wishing you guys well!

Nice People? Where?

I don't know what number you all are calling, but I just got a level 2 guy that was down right nasty. I am this close to cancelling out of pure spite. I dont know why I have hung on to this BTO for so long as it is. What I want now is to cancel just right before they ship so they incur the cost of thier blunder.

I am so angry. 😡 Thing is, all the catalogs are quoting 2 weeks as well. How did you get yours from macconnection? They are saying 7 - 10 days today.
I am so hopping mad, and all the PC heads here at my work are just laughing at this, recommending the machine they could build on the spot for the cash Im dropping on this.......

I orderd in JUNE ! Please Please Please, I want ammunition. I want to take this fight to the very door step of OL' Steve. Those that have shipped please scan or screen capture your info. smudge the important stuff and email me. I will put them online were EVERYONE can download them and use them when they call.

I am tired of the emotion that this is costing me. Maybe its time to spend some time apart........

sbrown@redrocks.com

signed - so mad I can feel it high up in my chest, or maybe thats a heart attack.... I think I should go lie down.

Whoops, sorry about that...that's what my order was originally, but since I took the deal where Apple sent the computer with a 9600xt for now and the 6800 kit later, I updated the signature to show that the computer had arrived but forgot to edit out the 6800 part. Sorry for the false hope 🙁

Ok I am very fortunate that my computer has shipped...well sort of....and others are still waiting but Apple is still giving me problems. They pushed it back from 9/3 to 9/17 so I called on 9/3 and got a free printer and free overnight shipping, but the next day i got an email saying it shipped. Since 9/4 and today the tracking info has said that the information has been received but nothing has shipped. The estimated arrival date is the 13th meaning it will be shipped ground so I called Apple today and now they are saying they can do nothing about it because it has already shipped even though it hasn't really. I guess I'm just angry that they told me I had overnight shipping but I don't, that's not too bad, but on top of that it hasn't even shipped yet but they are telling me they can't change the shipping because it has already shipped and at this rate who knows if it will even meet its estimated arrival date.
