Just Delivered!

I just happened to be walking by the loading dock entrance to our building and the FedEx driver had just pulled up. Now I am staring at my G5 box, waiting for 5pm to go home and set up.

G5dp2.5 stock+1GB RAM+BlueTooth+Final Cut Express, individual education order from Apple Store July 26, originally said to ship on or before Sept 8, actually shipped Sept 3 FedEx Ground from Anaheim CA, arrived 3pm Sept 9.

Now I can finally hook up the 23" Aluminum display that I've had since August 3.

It's going to be a long two hours remaining of work.

I'll post stats as soon as I can, probably tomorrow night.

6800 in the UK (on the 13th)

I have been doing a bit of analysis of tamtam's stats and have found 3 others who seem to be in the same boat as me (6800 in the UK due on Monday 13th). Hello to Grebo, JD32 and JWPepper. I guess we all got the push-back email a while ago and the £150. Forgive me if I have your details wrong.

Apple are still telling me that this date is correct. I still can't believe we will see these orders shipped on Monday as we haven't seen a 6800 yet, anywhere. Keep in touch, if you have any news.

We might include our French friend MFX in the group (similar stats).

Cheers one and all.

I'm in the UK and ordered with a 6800 + 30" Cinema Display on 2nd August and my date still says 13/9. This is an ADC order so who knows when it will turn up 😕

Lets hope we all get some good news for a change.

Cheers.

Driving up to my girlfriends house to pick it (the g5) up this saturday. oh if tamtam is still listening, a friend of mine, nonenonenone, has cancelled his order. he picked one up at sohos apple store.

I have two questions

I have two questions regarding the new G5s:

1) Where is the application that shows you the die temperatures/cpu temperatures, etc.?

2) What exactly is the Apple Hardware Test CD? Is this necessary to run?

Thanks
Moofie!

There is an uninstall program on your original CD. That was how I did it when having problems with SystemWorks.

Thanks for the reply, I'll look at the CD. Like you I bought SystemWorks, but now I mainly only use Dantz Retrospect.

It's a series of tests that test the logicboard (motherboard), memory, video card and other parts of the hardware for problems. It gives you a good idea if there is any bad memory, problems with the motherboard or fans. You don't have to run it, but doing so right after you receive your Mac probably is a good idea. It may save you a few headaches and give you notice of any problems before you start working with your G5 and adding extra memory, HDs, software and hardware.

It gives you a baseline as well, if you ran it right after you received your machine and then you added some hardware or software and start getting some kernel panics, it's likely the added hardware or software.

Thank you. Do you know where I can get the temperature info?

My 6800 + 30" Display

I'm not in the UK (US), but my G5 with the 6800 is also scheduled to ship 09/13. My 30" Display, however, is not scheduled for shipment until 10/08 (recently revised from 10/25). I ordered on 07/19. As far as I know, no one as yet received their G5 with a 6800 card, or a 30" Display. I would be very curious to know if your order ships next week.

For god's sake, Apple did it again (they screwed up!...)

So, my 4th revised ship date was 9/14. Last night, it was still listed as shipping on the 14th, but today, that G5 was cancelled and a new one replaced it with an est. ship date of the 14th of OCTOBER.

I called, and after talking to a very nasty sales rep, his senior supervisor finally explained the situation to me. When the 6800 was originally added, the purchase order was never resubmitted to the warehouse. Then, when I got the email to move the 6800 out of the G5, no purchase order was submitted once again.

So here I am, with order W84400.., delayed into mid-October. Oh yea, and I was told that there's no guarantee that my corrected order will ship before future order numbers.

How dare they? Without even sending an email notification?

Has anyone received their G5 (with the 6800 shipping later), with an order number made more recently than mine?

P.S. If Apple's listening, this was written by a very disgruntled mac user that is wishing that he never originally got hooked into buying an iMac DVSE (my first mac), and shortly after, a TiBook that was delayed 3+ months and was caught in a snow storm for 2 weeks when it actually did ship.

Received my G5 this morning. (Ordered 7/12 from ADC, delayed with 6800, received with 9600XT).

So far it's great. I can actually *run* Unison on large newsgroups (no offense to the guys over at panic, but it was very very slow on my 1.25gHz PowerBook). I've also had a chance to hook up my Logitech 5.1 system via the optical out and it sounds great.

I haven't done anything too intense yet...that will be later when I start playing with Photoshop & Motion.

don't take this the wrong way.. but *$*#(@' a man! i ordered the same day as you and still waiting. i need the stupid thing for classes which have already started. apple is p*ssing me off... 😡 😡 😡 😡

FYI: Concerning Retrospect- I've had an issue with trying to backup to the new 8X DVD burners in the new Macs. They're not yet supported. I checked Retrospects site & found others with the same situation.

Sorry guys I know this is off topic, but I encountered a couple KP's before looking into & thought you might like to know.

Yes, I'm still being told it's the 13th. Was asked to call back on Friday to double-check. Will be really disappointed if it slips again and will use the opportunity to milk it for a further discount (I've placed a Saved Order on their system with hopes that an overzealous Sales rep will wheel and deal or face a total cancellation).

A new iSight and a price break on the new Production Bundle would do nicely...

I think I got the REAL ANSWER!

This may not be much of a consilation to those waiting (Which I still am) But and APPLE REP just revealed something they were told NOT TO REVEAL. It is not terribly different than the small pieces that have been discussed on this forum.

THE REAL ANSWER FOR RANDOM SHIP TIMES AND MISSING SHIP DATES:

Those with 6800 cards when the date was not going to be met they attemped to reissue the order, cancelling the original one. The reissuing with the 9600XT card put EVERYONE at the bottom of the list. They attempted to get those affected units bumped to the head of the line. This was not universally sucessfull! For some it happened, for others it did not. It depended on the configuration and where it had been sent to manufacture! They thought it was handled but obviouslly it was not. Those with 9/17 ship dates are viewed as very strong ship dates. ( like MULDER SAYS I WANT TO BELIVE) The 17th is the date it would take to fix all those blunders that were still at the back of the line. It was not discovered that any were missed untill close to the end of August.

This shuffle has somewhat affected the non 6800 orders by productions limited through put.

This explains the RANDOM ship order. Some getting early , other sitting waiting with no discrimination to order date.

He admitted that they TRY to ship in order but it does not always happen.
He acknologed one that was floating around on the apple discussions (which looks like any evidence of has been removed)

The LEVEL 2 supervisor (very nice this time) agreed with my points of concern about the reality of the 17th ship date and is going to try to contact manufacturing to find out about my specific unit. This took a lot of convincing (about 30 mins of discussion) and only time will tell if she actually does. She took my personal cell phone number and indicated she would contact me when she could find something.

hope this helps explain some of the strangeness, though in the end nothing has changed......

This is getting mighty frustrating

Well guys, to all the person who are waiting here (non - 6800 orders) on their machines, you may not want to read the following few lines of text :

On the apple discussion boards, some guy from the uk ordered a stock config from the apple store on sept 2nd, and you know what, he got his shipping confirmation today!

I can't believe this is actually happening, my dealer hasn't gotten ANY stock configurations from Apple, only SOME BTO 2.5's.

This is frustrating to say the least, god, my patience has been tested these last 2 months, i'm a switcher, and I sure hope the goodies are worth every penny and sweat. Jeezes..

Sorry guys

1) Most here are using the free Temperature Monitor or the inexpensive shareware Hardware Monitor, both by the awesome Marcel Bresink (who also writes the excellent free TinkerTool utility).

2) The Apple Hardware Test CD (which may be a DVD on newer Macs) comes with every Mac sold, bundled with the Mac OS X installation CDs/DVDs/

A recap. My story has turned! 🙂

At first, I was disconnected through my own fault (phone battery was dieing so I switched phones, and the phone ran through a weird channel conflict, disconnecting both phones).

The guy called me back!

He looked into my order, and sent an email to a friend who would be able to look into the situation and make the changes at the factory level. After waiting on hold for 5mins, he said that he'd call me back as soon as he received the email.

About 2 hours later, he called me back yet again, saying that he was really sorry in that the guy was in a staff meeting for most of the afternoon, and that he's going to walk over to his office for me and call me back in two minutes.

2 minutes later, the guy calls me back, says that he had his friend contact the warehouse, and now my order will once again ship before Tuesday, with the commitment date changed.

I'm sorry Klaus (& everyone else) that you've had to wait so long, but I can assure you that these goodies are worth the wait. — Hope it's not much longer!

I'm still pulling for you guys...

I ordered June 9th and rightfully have already received my computer. I just want to let you know that I'm still pulling for you guys who ordered in July and especially Klaus. This computer is well worth the wait!!!! 🙂

If you are looking into receiving a discount on your order don't be afraid to ask! If you keep civil and don't lose it they will give you a rebate if you ask politely for it. Simply call them up, talk to the representative, ask for a supervisor, ask for a discount. Make sure to include a little personal information and they will be more likely to understand your pain. Good luck! 😉

I looks like a lot of people have 9/13 & 9/14 shipping dates, so it will be interesting to see if a mass shipment leaves next week.

Shipping?

My Apple acct has apparently been charged for my 17" Studio Display an' the free (MIR) printer, so...... 'z at mean they're ready to ship something?

First post on the new G5. It's just finished running the hardware test, and it took me awhile to get it online with all the ropes they make mac users jump on my universities network. I know some people are still waiting but hang in there, the moment you open up the box the whole wait will have been worth it.
Peace,
Huevo

Worth the wait indeed

It is well worth the wait. I have been running my D2.5 off and on for a week now. Would have kept it on for the whole week but a Hurricane got in the way of it staying on for the whole week. Took it with me to weather the storm in a safer place than my school dorms. But other than that it has been great. Any one that hasn't recieved it yet I feel for you as I too had to wait. But i can say it is well worth it. Once you get it running you will be amazed especially if you purchased a new LCD as well. I have the 20 and it is more than enough space at the moment. Can't wait to get photoshop on here so i can fiddle with my large projects, and digital camera images.

How much longer until this thread breaks the record for highest number of posts (or has it already?)? This thread probably contributes quite a lot of bandwidth usage. Is there any software limit (or server limit) that would cut off this thread in the reasonable future? I guess we'll just find out one day when we click the refresh button one day and find that Safari can't find a server.
