It arrived!

Howdy folks!

My new 2.5 G5 arrived this morning. Here are the specs:
2 Gig of ram, 250x2 HD, BT+wireless mouse+keyboard, Nvidia 6800 (once it acutually ships). I ran Hardware Test and everything checked out fine. It is quite a jump in speed for me. The mac I was upgrading from was a B&W G3 400 MHz; it even had an ADB port! At any rate, I'm glad the wait is over. With any luck, it will last me until I need to upgrade to the G7. 🙂 Good luck to all those who are still waiting!

I have been doing a bit of analysis of tamtam's stats and have found 3 others who seem to be in the same boat as me (6800 in the UK due on Monday 13th). Hello to Grebo, JD32 and JWPepper. I guess we all got the push-back email a while ago and the £150. Forgive me if I have your details wrong.
Apple are still telling me that this date is correct. I still can't believe we will see these orders shipped on Monday as we haven't seen a 6800 yet, anywhere. Keep in touch, if you have any news.
We might include our French friend MFX in the group (similar stats).
Cheers one and all.

Hi,
I'm actually in the same boat 🙂
Apple France has no information at all 🙁
Shipping is yet planned on 09/13, but I can't believe it. On applestore, the 6800 card is shipping 'late october'.
And here, the "immediate shipping with a 9800 card, and free shipping of the 6800 later" is not known.
I've seen in this tread that some 6800 US customers received their G5 in these conditions. Why Europe can't beneficiate of this operation ??

I quite agree. I have tried to get Apple Store UK to give us this deal, but they won't budge. They keep telling me it will ship on Monday and that is a short wait!!! Surely they could check with manufacturing to see if they have any 6800s yet? If not, I can't see them meeting the dates.

By the way, I was wondering if all the Applestore telephone numbers in europe are routed through to Ireland. I rang the UK number yesterday and got a German bloke (very good english, easier to understand than the last Irish guy. 😀 )

Very bad news ....
I just called Apple, they tell me a mail is going to be sent, to inform us of a new delay. New date is 10/08 🙁 🙁 🙁
I asked for the shipping with a 9600 (temporarily).
I've been told that Apple is examining at this very time what to do with the '6800 orders'.
My correspondant promised to call me back as soon as informations are available ...

Hoping they will take the "good decision" 🙂

Morning Klaus,

Spotted you lurking on the viewing list. Its pretty impressive that you have reached over 500 posts on this Forum before the delivery of your first Mac. Anyway, well done. Might be some kind of record!

Cheers

Morning glassbathroom.

Been reading this forum for over 5 months now, posting where I can help, although the majority of my posts come from this thread I think 😀
It's a nice community, and in Belgium we have a couple of dedicated forums as well, with lots of members.

Let's hope I don't have to reach a 1000 posts until my first mac arrives 😉

good day!

Terrible news!

I shall be requesting serious compensation for this. Keep us posted if you get the email.

Klaus - I agree, it's a great group of people on this thread. Not like that "iMac annonced" crowd. They are always arguing! 😀

Cheers

Just off the phone and they've confirmed another slip of at least two more weeks - putting it at early October. If it is 8 October, that is my birthday, so that would be a bittersweet present.

They said a mail is about to be sent out (as referenced by mfx above) -- no mention of further compensation as yet... I hinted that I'd wait to see what the mail said before deciding whether to continue to hold or not. You know, the 23" screens are plenty big on their own... maybe I was just being greedy!

...so it will be interesting to see if a mass shipment leaves next week.

I think its safe to say that we can forget the idea of "mass" shipments, they'll just continue to trickle in one by one.

To those of you still waiting, good luck with your orders.

cheers.

"Thank you for your recent e-mail to the Apple Store.

I regret any inconvenience that this delay may cause. Please be advised that may orders have been delayed due to the NV40 card. We have been advised by our production team that these items will not be able until the 8th of September.

Once this part has been made available your order shall be shipped to you as soon as possible."

Arrived just now! Do you think they mean 8th September 2005 ?

Well, yes.....from previous information from the 13th team, I guess they mean 8th October. However, I have just rang Applestore UK again to query the date. The person I spoke to said "No it means 8th September this year" and the email must have been delayed. Absolute rubbish! The email has not been delayed - they don't even know what month it is!

She said it would still ship on the 13th. I wish I could get some odds on that. I could make a fortune betting against it.

I put in a small amount of money to bet FOR it! Since everyone will bet against, I can either lose a little bit money, or win a fortune.

Or are the ods really against me? 😀

and, by the way, I am getting really, really, really disappointed in the way all this goes.

Its is almost unbelievable that a large computer hardware and software company is not able to put up a correct ordering system. Also I cannot believe they (it must be on purpose) tread the resellers as 'second rang costumers'. These are the guys that have been supporting and promoting the mac for several years, in good and bad times. They have been through tons of misery (availability problems, quality problems, bad image,...) and still sell the product with all their hart. Shame on you apple!

I am a die hard apple user and lover, but monopoly can be a pain in the ass sometimes.

No mail received yet about the new delay ...

I called again Applestore (14h30, french hour) : they confirmed the new date of october 8.
They said me the US solution ( temporary 9600) may be canceled ... and no decision here for the moment. True or not ??
They promised to mail me as soon as possible,

My order is an ADC one, so I mailed to ADC to get info or help. Waiting for their answer ...

Tired of waiting 🙁

I have been working for an Apple Specialist for 3+ years. Since before the walk-in Apple Stores started going up. It has only gotten worse and worse. It used to be that when Apple couldn't deliver a product in time...there was no where else to go. Now we are losing customers because they will just drive and hour to the Apple Store and pick up what ever they have in stock. 😡

We still have not received a dual 2.5 G5. Mine included. And I doubt we will see any of the 10 iMac G5s we have on order before all of the Apple Stores are fully stocked.

I understand why Apple is trying to make a little bigger piece of the pie, but it is coming at the expense of the little dealers. Some of which (us including) have been loyal Apple resellers/service for 10+ years.

Waiting for Monday.....

Hi,I've been reading this thread from the beginning but this is my first post.I'm also waiting for an ADC UK 6800 order, delayed four times now, last time with a £150 rebate.I reckon it'd be safe to bet that £150 that our orders don't arrive on time! 🙂

By the way,my web order is W755... 😡

Welcome to the team, ganders.

I got my G5 yesterday, and due to my stupidity (I had an iMac before, this is my first PowerMac) I thought the bluetooth module was inside. Also, I didn't order Airport with the G5 but I got a thing like the BT module with a signal on it.. what is that?!

Also..
Had to go out and buy a 20" cinema last night.. SO SEXY.

That's the external Airport antenna. It's worth keeping in case you add the internal airport card later.

Congrats on the new machine.

um yeah....

THE REAL ANSWER FOR RANDOM SHIP TIMES AND MISSING SHIP DATES:

...

What I found interesting is that my 2.5/160gb/2gb/9600/ae/56k ordered 6/17 edu-institution was delayed only once; on 7/30 it was bumped to 9/20.

From what I can tell my story is very unique, I’ve seen other’s on this forum get bumped several times, never seen anyone get bumped to my date, they seam to have been 8/20 8/30, 9/3, 9/13. If the case was all these people getting bumped behind me because their horrible excuse for a system goofed why would I not have been bumped up? I think any excuse apple gives you is simply that, an excuse. The few times I called apple about this order I would get totally different answers from what was posted on forums.

The funny thing is I had word from a person deep inside apple (i've been interviewing with apple) in the middle of July that the most of 2.5 GHz machines would not start shipping till the middle of August because of delay's in the manufacturing of the cpu's on IBM's end. So they did know well in advance that people's orders would be delayed and bumped so they could have informed the “early adopters” much sooner than 7/29 or 7/30.

Apple rep said my machine should ship out this week… it’s Friday… if the 9/20 date get’s bumped I think I’ll communicate with the purchasing department and have them go at it with apple to compensate me with something material.

ack! by the time you get the 6800 nvidia or ati wil have something better and the 6800 will be worth less than what you paid... just kidding.. i don't think their turn around for new gpu's are that fast 😀

but the longer it takes them to ship it the less value you get by forking over the $500 to get it first. A year from now it'll they will probably go for $250.

This thread has become too depressing to read.

I just want my G5.

It does suck that people who order well after us are getting them.

9/17 is just around the corner, hopefully your g5 will ship.
