Dual 2.5GHz PowerMacs Shipping

Hi, UK 6800 folks,

No news yet. I called Apple this morning ...
They still have to take a decision ( that was planned on last friday, but they are still waiting).
I was told that the US solution is no more valid.
Maybe because it's going to be too expensive for Apple ? If the 6800 dealy was only a few days, only a few customers concerned : the gift of the 9600 card was acceptable. But if the 6800 is only available last october ( or later ?), the cost for a great number ( don't know how many 🙂 ) of customer is too high ?

So, I'm waiting for more informations this afternoon. I hope to get a 'temporary' 9660 card, even if I've to sent it them back later, when the 6800 arrive ( not too late, please 😀 )

Because I've ordered the 30" monitor too -- they're probably afraid to ship it knowing some people might damage it by trying to run it with a sub-standard (albeit readily-available) video card. I've informed them that I have another monitor I can use until the 6800 comes along, but I'm afraid the number of oustanding orders is too great for them to deal with us on a case-by-case basis.

Someday it'll all be behind us. (sigh)

Hi,

Does anybody use Wolframs Mathematica software on a G5 dual 2.5 or 2.0 ?
Would be interested to know how noisy the G5 is, when doing extended Math calculations with Mathematica-Software ?

Hmm, sorry, I can't help you with that.. the only math i'm doing on my pc 🙂o) currently is calculating how much days there are left until I'll get my mac. I'm dividing that by the amount of patience I still have left, and strangely enough, it gives me an error, because you can't divide by 0 😛 😀

no errors here, dividing with a negative number seems to work just fine.

Just to remind you, I ordered my 2.5 on 10th June and upgraded to the NV6800 as soon as they were announced. I have now been delayed three times I have jst been moved from 13th September to 21st September.

Thats bad news, JWPepper. How did you find out? Did they send an email? Not good news for the rest of us UK 6800ers with the 13th ship dates. Although 21st September is better than a date in October. If they hit it.

I too am waiting to hear about my 6800 order. I have an EST of 09/13, but have received nothing yet indicating it will or will not ship today. The order status still says 09/13. No charge yet to my cc. On the last delay they sent me the e-mail the day after. Maybe we'll hear some news today.

Well, the worst has happened....I just got off the phone from Apple UK and the shipping date for my order (supposed to be today, after already slipping 3 times) has now been changed to Oct. 15. I am so p*ss*d off........I'm now waiting for a supervisor to call back......I so want to just cancel the order and be done with Apple forever.

Ordered June 30...estimated shipping date...probably when pigs actually start to fly.

Sorry for the anger.

Please keep you chin up klaus. You are one of the regulars in this thread. Your encouragement to others has been very helpful. Just think the amount of wait is getting less every day. You definitely have the vast majority of your wait behind you. As you have said to others the wait will soon be a distant memory.

Try taking some slow deep breaths. Count to 10. It will help when you speak to the supervisor. I'm very sorry to hear about the delays that you are experiencing. To cancel would be the easy way, but afterward you would regret having done that. I would imagine that the supervisor will offer you some compensation. Everyone is here to support you.

I'm glad to hear of your approval.

That is my thoughts exactly on using the 23" or 30" to watch DVD's. My wife and I think they look nice on our 17", but it should be awesome on the larger screen. A way to setup a home theater rather easily. 😉

dissapointed yet again

My shipping date was supposed to be today, it also has been pushed back at least 4 times. Ordered in Edu on July 11, BT 9800, The computer hasn't even been built yet. What's the best compensation that anybody has received yet, because I think I'm due for some. 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡

Well the business day is nearly over in the UK, so I thought I would ring, as I have heard nothing from Applestore.

I got a very helpful guy who confirmed that the 6800's would not be around until about October 8th. I laughed. He asked me what I wanted. Thoughts of saying "world peace" passed through my mind. Instead I say I wanted it shipped with another card and the 6800 shipped on its own, when available (as in the US). He said "OK"! Now he said it would take a day or so to update my order. He couldn't promise anything, but he said that in theory the G5 (without 6800) should ship this week.

Maybe, just maybe I am getting somewhere. Hey Grebo, I realise this doesn't help you so much, sorry. Are you sure you want a 30" screen?

The 23s are plenty nice -- I guess I do plan to get into HD video editing, so I thought the larger screen would help with all the menus that Final Cut Pro spawns, etc. Ah, who am I kidding? I just wanted it 'super-sized' to incite jealousy of my friends.

I'm so shallow.

Therapy aside, I would like them to do the same for me -- so long as they ship the monitor with the card later (I have another display I can use in the meantime). Or better yet, they can ship me a 23 to get by and 'forget' to reclaim it! 😉
