Dealyed Again

my 9/14 date was delayed until 9/24. i called to confirm that i wanted to keep it. but made it seem like i was upset and explained my annoyance. after requesting to speak to a supervisor she as what it was in reference to. i explained that i needed the computer and was being consistantly delayed since i ordered it 2 months ago. eventually she mentioned that she was authorized to compensate me. i asked how and she did some computer searching, she said $150 off. i stalled for a few seconds and asked if there was anything in addition to that money that she could offer me. and she asked what, so have a list of apple store goodies that you want. i mentioned airport express and speakers. she offered me the airport or those stick speakers for $199. i took the airport seeing as it is more useful, and we settled on 100 off and the airport. so delayed again, but i made out with some free schwagg. hopfully that helps others who got screwed again to grab a few things to make the wait easier.

I hope the machines start shipping out faster now, I can't believe how much Apple has screwed up this whole process. There are far too many people who ordered before me (6/22 EDU) and have still yet to get their machines.

Good luck guys... now if i could only finish my homework so that i can unwrap this beast and load Maya onto it.

Excellent

Sounds like you had a good strategy on the phone. I'll be calling tomorrow to REconfirm my order; I'll try for the schwagg.

What I can't believe...

LOL!!
I can't believe this BS man.
I ordered an imac G5 2 weeks ago and its shipping today.
I ordered a PowerMac 3 months ago and its still stuck in some sort of "Infinite Loop"". (Pun intended)
Ah well, that gives me some hope that Apple isn't what I thought it was for poor service.

Stock + 250 drive (split 6800 card delivery 10.15???) delayed again.....

from 9/14 to 9/24

using angry voice now.....last time was upset voice.... 😱

😡 Grrrrrrrrr!

less then Irie Jedi 🙁

Outcome of call $100 refud on my credit card. So that makes $200 in credit so far.....

I know you're gonna go nuts when you read this, but...

I broke off my 6800 too, then later canceled the G5 and am still getting the 6800 for only $400 (they charged you for the stock G5 and just subtracted the money from the 6800 to make up for it)!!!

Then I went to the store and bought a stock DP 2.5 with an educator discount (had to do a loan because of recent *cough* financial difficulties).

So I get the same deal as before (basically a free ATI9600)! And eventually I'll get my 6800 (probably the same time as you do)

So I have my G5 right here, started out as stock and I bought the RAM 3rd party (like I would've done anyway), and I'm getting the same deal on the video card 🙂.

Don't kick yourself too hard, you can probably still do it.

Hello,

Well, I suppose we could. But that depends on the amount of info that we get from our resellers/apple 🙂.

Positive info : a lot of jippies, and joehaaas should do the trick
Negative : flamebaits, shouting, we'll reach 5000 easily

so, I think we will

Wow, you're going to have two new G5-based machines -- very nice! The new iMac is really really nice. I played with one in Paris at the Expo and was really tempted to 'switch' to the iMac instead of the Powermac. Problem is I'd exhaust the internal storage faster that you can say alt.binaries!

Grebo, no need to be coloured with green envy 🙂 You'll have one nice setup as well, when your equipment arrives. I can only dream of having a 30" on my desk. I could pay for it, but I can't justify the amount of cash, considering I don't really 'need' that much space anyway 🙂 Besides, I don't think my folks would like it either. Oh well, time to save up some cash for when I leave my parental house

G5 Shipped

G5 finally shipped Tuesday of last week (9/7) after being delayed three times (ordered 7/14) starting with 8/20 delayed to 9/3 then again to 9/17 (with 6800 shipping 9/24).

FedEx was supposed to deliver it yesterday, but the driver drove right by my house! He proceded to claim that he had tried to deliver it earlier but that nobody was home when I called to complain later. I asked him why he didn't leave a attempted delivery notice then to which he replied "I forgot". So, I should be receiving this new G5 sometime after 7:00 PM EST tonight . . . hopefully.

Specs:
2x2.5GHz G5
512MB
160GB
Nvidia 6800 (shipped with Radeon 9600 XT)
Bluetooth

Good luck to all those still waiting!

will cancel

I have send a mail to my reseller and apple belgium that I will cancel my order if my computer does not arrive in september.
I think its unbelievable that even september delivery is an issue. I've been waiting for over 3 months now, that is way to much. I am pretty serious, if it is not here this month, I dont want it anymore.

I am a professional apple user, I can't work 100% in this situation. My clients count on me, and I want reliable providers, or, at least correct information. It is not good for me to refresh rumor sites every 30' just to know that I know nothing more.

Got a call from Apple and the reseller following my long discussions with Apple Customer Care and letter to them a fortnight ago.

I should be getting my machine by Friday! Picked and built this week, in transit to reseller now.

I can't confirm if a machine was specifically escalated as I don't know that, but it certainly wasn't due till October. Delayed repeatedly and last estimate was early October, I snapped at that and started dealing with Apple direct. We're all waiting (Klaus, I'm looking at you) and it's a worldwide problem so I didn't ask for escalation, only some facts and certainty of WHEN it will ship as it's for pro work and holding up business. I was very persistent. This seems to have been the response.

Recap; ordered 9 July from reseller, BTO 2.5 (AE, BT with KB, no modem), 23" Cinema and from other sellers a stack of RAM and gear for HiDef production and motion graphics (Blackmagic Design make awesome gear and they're Australian too; www.blackmagic-design.com). 6800 ordered separately, and the BT mouse will go on eBay as I got a nice new MX1000 standing by.

Will report back on the temps, benchmarks and 23" (pink issue, ghosts) if this actually works out. Can't wait to get into it, was contemplating how to get my AlBook1.5 to render 12 hours a day for the next month without melting. Maybe saved.

Belgium reseller update

Well, I called Apple Belgium headquarters a minute ago, and talked to a nice lady which at first misunderstood my call, and went to the productmanager to ask when the 3.5 G5 would be delivered 🙂

After clearing that up, she said the productmanager informed her, there would only be 2 (yes you read it correctly) machines delivered for our entire country.
The manager has no info on when this situation should be clearing up, and could not even tell me if it would be better at the end of september.

She said they were very sorry and wished they could give us more positive news... I'll call again at the end of september

ps : still can't believe it, 2 machines for an entire country, true, a small one, but still

Thanks Slughead

Hi Slughead - I did consider that - my snag is that I have a 23inch Monitor and I want both on Apple care and that means they both have to be on same purchase order. A local store offered to buy it back and resell it to me along with an instock G5... but I feared losing the $405 cost of the 6800 card if I did that. Saving that $144 (cause it like $549 with edu discount) and the ability to sell the 9600XT card and since I'm up to $200 in credit... I decided to wait. For me it is 90% a toy, so between my G3 b/w (with G4 550 upgrade) which is email and quicken and my HP AMD 3200+/9600XT as a decent toy for games... and my XBOX + 770 watt sound system and 55inch HDTV for serious games... and of course my wife... my time is pretty full so the wait sucks but it is not the end of the world. What is mind boggling is that this company seems to have a serious inventory control problem.... even excell could calculate how many we make a day, sort the list of orders and get a much more accurate arrival date. Currently it seems they are picking random dates...

BTW my Order Number is "W843...." one of the lowest I've seen.

😛

When is yours shipping?

It shows up on my order status on the website.
Hi, as I said yesterday, I've arranged the same deal -- but am not happy that they are saying they won't ship it until 24 September.

This is just insult to injury. Yes I'm happy they're getting it to me sooner than 15 October, but puh-lease! If our machines were indeed in production (as they always said when I was checking on it,) then it's a 5-minute job to snap in the 9600XT card and send it on its way.

I am really tempted to cancel unless they sweeten the deal with incentives. Yes, after all this, my finger's on the trigger...

Mine is also the 24th. I am hoping it will be sooner now the 6800 isn't holding it up.

3GHz G5???

So now that the 2.5GHz G5's are shipping, when will the rumors begin to swirl around a 3GHz G5? After recently converting to macs, I'm dying to get my hands on a G5, but if the 3GHz is on the horizon, maybe I can wait anxious and frustrated for another 6 months to 1 year. Perhaps they'll be improved even further than the processor chip, making it worth the wait?

Oh I know, I've got 'buyer's remorse' already, and I haven't spent a penny yet. It's so anti-climatic. You just know there's going to be some new 'ooh ahh' feature added inside of six months. Whether it's faster dual layer DVD burning drives, a new expansion bay to hold more than two(?!) drives, and even better video card that is ready when they say it will be - that'd be novel!

I might try this if it slips past the 9/20. Money is meaningless, work bought it for me. I could use an upgrade from the 9600 to the 9800 card, allthough that could delay my order further, but would be worth it I supose.

Well, seeing how good IBM has been at producing the power5 at 2.5Ghz, i don't expect to see a 3.0 anytime soon. Apple may have been a little gready with the current clock speed.

Do we then celebrate the 5000th post on 4998? I remember having similar debates whether we should have celebrated the Millennium on NYE 1999 or NYE 2000?

i believe the controversy was between the year 2000 and 2001, because there was never a year 0, thus centuries start at 1-100, 101-200. 1-99 would be only 99 years.

come on, debate my off topic post! hahaha 😀

Hrm are you sure about that? I got my G5 and used the Applecare I bought online and it worked fine.

If you look at the bottom of the box and it has 2 UPC codes, that means that you can use it with any G5 and any display, because the Applecare has yet to be attached to any product.

Attached to a purchase order? that just seems strange.

Party like it's...

Either way, I seem to recall we partied like it was 1999.

I'm sure my new G5 could compute the correct answer. Oh that's right - I don't HAVE a new G5 yet!

What Apple told me....

Apple told me that there is NO apple care available for a monitor... however IF you buy a monitor WITH a computer at the same time you can cover both..... no way to cover ONLY monitor

not a fight I want to take on.... but I can see the marketing aspect of that plan....

Either way - I'm bummed but life goes on - if you order... it will come... eventually....

That doesn't necessarily mean it'll make a difference if you just buy a g5 now and wait for the monitor.

I think what they may have meant to say is: you have to register both products with Applecare at the same time.

When I registered for Applecare online, it asked if I had an Apple display as well.. I didn't have one, but I could've Applecare'd for no extra charge if I wanted to.

You might consider asking them specifically about that possibility, or calling an Apple retail store an asking them.

Again, I'm fairly certain if you have 2 UPC stickers on the bottom of your Applecare package, you may tie it to any units you want. Buy a display in town? buy a computer in town? you probably could use that Applecare package you bought online.

I know for certain that's what I did, but on the other hand, it might be different if you have a display..
