Congrats iriejedi

Wow 5000 posts... Who would have thought that milestone would have been reached in this thread (except for maybe IBM 😀)

Klaus I was hoping it would be you who got the honor since you have exhibited the greatest amont of grace under the circumstance. Maybe 10,000 😛

Who was it who corrected me about the 5000th post being on the 200th page?

In the words of Al Gore: I demand a recount!

I wouldn't consider this a milestone. It's actually sad that so many people have wasted so much time (including myself) commiserating with others on delays of a new computer.

This is not a thread, this is a "chatroom". Nothing different than a record you'd find of an IRC channel.

Sorry, been glued to the keyboard...

Hi tamtam. Got mine as promised on 9/3 from MacConnection. Since then I've been cranking stuff out like never before on this puppy.

This is first time I have had a Mac that moves faster than I can, and as a Graphic Designer I can finally justify hiking my hourly rate because I am finishing projects hours ahead of time. It's mind boggling to realize how much time a day I save just in simple things like opening and closing programs, booting, Photoshop effects, etc. Over the course of a day I would say I save an hour & 1/2 versus working on my PMG4 800.

To those waiting... I know it sucks. And I know how much it sucks to hear that it is SO worth the wait when you don't have your machine. But I'm going to say it anyway.

ITS ALIVE!!!!!

My G5 is Alive!

Just a few shots - man iPhoto an instant publish is amazing - I truly can not imagin what potential lies before me - now I'm really glad I took PTO day on Friday to give 3 days to learn what this can do!

CC Pre-authorisation for the 6800 today...

This is odd, I had a figure show up on my credit card's outstanding authorisations -- and I called the bank but all they could tell me is 'it looks like it's from some sort of computer store -- won't have more info until the 22nd of September'. Odd how they could know it's computer-related, but no more.

Anyway, I went back to my Apple order -- found the new line item they created for the 6800 card shipping after the 2.5DPG5 CTO w/ 9600XT, multiplied the figure by 1.175 (to see the figure with VAT) and voila! It was the same amount as the pre-authorisation.

Maybe they'll ship it before the 2.5DPG5 CTO now. Wouldn't THAT be funny! 😀

G5=perfect

I can't find one issue so far - by far the quietest PC I've ever owned - sure a quick fan rev every now and then but with 5.1 opticle sounds and iTunes - who really hears it?

The only two things I can say it that well - um - the keyboard is 'white' and they forgot buttons on the mouse. So the mouse for sure is going buh bye but until I find a show on keyboard painting on HGTV or Marth Stuart Living ((kidding)) I'm probably going to keep it.

The manual has had one purpose - um how sad, but I had to read it to find out how to open the DVD drive. - no buttons on the computer.

I also really like how the start up button has been replace with the POWER button on the monitor (well at least that button covers shutdown/sleep/restart) I can only assume that it covers "turn on" as well. 8 hours under power no problems so why turn it off to check a button.

What HW check were people running that took a lot of time - what about speed checks.... my Tech Tool Pro (from Apple Care) took like 2 minutes (all pass BTW)

I'd like to run a bench mark program on G3 and G5 is there a program that runs on BOTH OS 9 and OS X?

Finally before I go back to opening and closing things just cause it it is SOOOOOOO Fast - installing ram very very easy - but yes everyone you do have to push harder then you would think and the 'click' someone talked about - it is real and it does happen.. I went with RAM before POWER seemed an awlful shame to test it and then to dismantle it... so I say GO FOR IT - RAM then POWER!

OK need to see how many applications I can open at once then sneak back into bed cause it is like before 6am and but I had to see if it was still running as I slept for a few hours last night!

Cheers

OK - FOUND First problem Safari and MacRumors Smileys do not work! I click one and it takes me back to top of page! Sigh - a flaw!

Still waiting..

Well, I've been following this thread since it started, so I thought it was time to chime in....

I too ordered an educational G5 2.5 on June 30th. Nothing special, standard rig with the 9600XT...there have been two date changes. My current shipping date is for September 20th. I have about as much hope as the rest of you that Apple is actually going to come through on this.

I called Apple on the phone and they actually told me that I should start to consider other alternatives to buying their equipment. Can you believe that? It was refreshing to hear such honesty, but I can't believe an Apple rep would actually hint at buying a PC instead. She also adamantly agreed that they should have never advertised the systems if there weren't going to be any 'in stock' for the next three months.

Good times. Also, finally saw the new iMac at my University's educational store (wow, glad those are shipping. <sic>) and I think the real estate below the screen is a little overwhelming. Just my two cents.

You don't seem very gracious to have your G5. Some people don't even have their G5 yet, so I wouldn't start complaining about your video card. For example, I ordered 10 minutes after the 2.5s were originally announced. Upgraded to the 6800 minutes after that was announced. Separated the 6800 from the G5 as soon as the offer was made, and my estimated ship date was moved 7 times, now into late October (the 25th).

Yeah, you've got it worse than I do. I didn't order my G5 until June 20, I put my order for the 6800 in the day after they were released, and split it out a day or so after I got the email. By all rights, you should have your computer now and I shouldn't. My point here is that Apple is pretty clearly breaking the law in several cases by repeatedly misrepresenting delivery dates.

I absolutely love this computer, but that isn't what my post is about... it is about promises Apple can't deliver on, yet they continue to make. We wouldn't have read 5000+ posts if everyone got their computer when they were told they could expect it. Don't get me wrong, I completely expected it when I placed my order...it is how Apple has historically done business...but then when I placed my order, my G5 was supposed to ship in JULY! It isn't like this is a minor purchase either... a parent would be upset if their Tickle Me Elmo didn't arrive before Christmas... that is a <$100 toy, we're talking about things that cost $5000 and many of us depend on for our day-to-day lives.

This computer is absolutely the best computer ever, but this "Store" appendage of Apple is doing something horribly wrong, and I think it is even illegal. Apple is responsible for making the best computer ever, but they're also responsible for conducting business in an ethical manner....Do you think it is ethical for your computer to not have arrived yet, even though I ordered mine a couple of weeks AFTER you?? I don't think so, and after reading the FTC's "Mail or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule", several of the FTC's online business guidelines papers, and reviewing court rulings like their "Project Too Late.com", I'm thinking that the FTC might want to look into Apple's fulfillment policies and practices.

I'll side with Apple on most things, but when something is wrong like it is wrong here, I think we have to wake them up. If Apple can't ship a video card within the 90+ days they said they were going to, they are required to tell me this as soon as they are aware of the situation. It is a clear violation of law if they don't. Worst comes to worst, the FTC fines them some token amount and Apple moves to address the problems that we're all frustrated about here. I'd rather that happen than have apple do this again and again... they've just got to stop it.

Graphex
--Yes, the computer is awesome.

When you get AppleCare and want it for both the computer and the monitor - they both must be ordered on the same day and be shown on the same invoice. Of course, this presented problems for me since they delivered the monitor first, so it was NOT shown on my invoice. When they finally sent my G5 on the first of Septmber, I tried to register both of them with AppleCare. The only way it happened was that I went back to my reseller (MacConnection) and they sent me a complete invoice with everything ordered. I, in turn, faxed this to AppleCare, so they changed their records to reflect that both the computer and monitor are covered.

A long process but finally done. This would never have happened if the G5 were not on order. Usually they both come together.

Thought I would relay this to you as there has been discussion about it.

Kathy 😀

Congratulations on making the 5000th post in the Dual 2.5 commiserating thread. Nice pictures, thank you for sharing. That is a great setup. What are your thoughts on the Klipsch ProMedia Speakers?

Thank you for posting about your new arrival. It's helpful when someone post about how great the 2.5 is operating. Your post will help to encourage others in their time of waiting.

Finally!

My Company finally got our three Dual 2.5, all with Radeon 9800XT cards, and 1.5 GB of Ram. My only problem is that i will need to pick up DVI to ADC connectors so i can have my two monitors running. Nothing like dropping $20000 to find out that i will need to spend $500 more just to make the monitor run.

The fact that i am rendering a lightwave scene that took about 5 minutes a frame on my 450 Cube and is now taking 18 seconds per frame on my new hottness, makes up for any extra costs.

Congrats on the three duals! That rendering speed is amazing 🙂
Didn't you know there weren't 2 adc ports on the back of the videocards? It seems logical to me.

anyway, happy rendering 🙂

I have those speakers hooked up to my 2.5 ... the speakers are awesome, great sound quality and can be cranked up with no ill effect, they are perfect for this computer. I am even considering getting their 5.1 speaker system ..

Well worth the money to get them ...

Klipsch Speakers - mini review

My thoughts are still undecided on the 5.1 system - I only paid $99 since Apple gave me $100 credit for my first delay so that seems to help. There is alot of hissing when they get activated (beep, etc). They sleep and then turn on as needed - I thought the opticle cable would resolve this. Nope. Turning off the surround helps but that sorta defeats the purpose. Of course if music or movie/game sound is constant and not too quiet, you can't hear it. I need to read the manual and see if I've missed something - seems they should not do this.

But while they look nice I see them as being a DUSTING nightmare.

If you get a set or anyone else for that matter let me know about any issues with 'hissing' 😱 🙄

🙂

PS Mac Rumors, why do smiley inserts anutmatically revert to END of message - I have to cut and past them now with 10.3.5 - just curious?

PORTS

No actually (at least on the 9600XT) it is ONE ADC and ONE DVI - so you will need an adapter unless you have ONE old monitor and one new one. I was a little miffed by this - but alas I only have one monitor so I moved on....

🙂

Just cancelled my order over the phone and put in a new one for the 9600... The 6800 will follow whenever the graphics gods decide. The 'puter should be shipping in 10 days. Still waiting for the confirmation email and my order status page hasn't changed yet.
They didn't offer this option in the email I received telling me I would be pushed back to Oct 15, but I decided to take a chance. Glad that the offer was still available. Now I just hope it works...

Gimme that again?

PhantomVI,
How does that work? You order a 9600 equipped machine an' figure it'll be shipped in 10 days? My 9600 machine has been ordered since 06/03/04 as a dual 2.0, since 06/14/04 as a dual 2.5. To say I'm a bit miffed would be a gross understatement! What am I missing? Input, please! Hmmmm..............

Yeah, seemed really weird to me, too. That's what she said, but I still haven't seen an email to confirm it. Order status still the same on Apple's site as well.
