G5 ARRIVED...

... and here we are: a brandnew G5 came today. ordered mid-august through my reliable reseller. migration went fine. some tuning has to be done. the screen-estate on my 23'' apple LCD is amazing. they only forgot to tell me about the need of an acd-tovga-adaptor to get my second monitor connected. the apple lcd noadays use the dvi-connector and apple provides an dvi-to-vga-converter, which helps nothing if you have their monitor connected to the dvi already. a little strange. work will be so fine...

all the waiting people - keep up your good mood waiting for the amazing G5 that will come to your house.

just to keep you informed about incoming machines in europe (berlin, germany)...

best - etienne

I'm so fricken happy!!!! whoohooo!

🙂 🙂 🙂

Edit: whoah! size 7 font is big!

Shipped?

well, i got shipment notification. of course, it was late at night and i was in a terrible mood, so i wasn't as elated as i could be. it'll all sink in when i'm riding that hot mama with some benchmarks. i'm incredibly suspicious, though, as it's listed by FedEx as "Package data transmitted to FedEx; package not in FedEx possession." but anyway, the details...

G5 2.5DP (of course)
512MB / 250GB / 9600 / SuperDrive / AP / BT / 56k / APP
ADC order: 08/12/2004
"On or before": 09/20/2004
ship notice: 09/16/2004
est. delivery: 09/20/2004

like horry jeebus fsck, it might actually arrive before i start school? never you mind i'll be neck-deep in work and school and might not even open the box for a week or more (i still haven't decided on that one yet). the Raptor 74GB has been sitting in its pitiful little box, the 1GB PC3200 has been keeping warm in the PC (hel-loooo 1/3rd the loading time in BF: DC), the router, printer... hell everthing's ready (except my wireless trackball... gotta order that). i've been mulling over my partition strategy, as well; solo-act's post was some food for thought, but i think that's a little overkill for my needs. it'll probably be Raptor 74GB(swap, system) and stock 250GB(media, sysbackup). here's a question... i tell "system" to stick vm on "swap." then "system" dies and i switch to "sysbackup" - but "swap" isn't there anymore. does X just stick swapfile0 in the default directory, /var/vm/? hmmm, got to figure out how all the network services will groove on, too.

anyway, they claim it's already been shipped but FedEx's website has seen neither hide nor hair of my beast. i wonder if this is one of those bitter twists where the ship notice will be withdrawn... i'll be watching the tracking number - if it looks like it's going to actually be delivered on monday, hell, i'm heading home to pick it up. the thing is... what if nothing changes? what if it stays "not in FedEx possession" all weekend? i've had "Package information received" listed until after the package was delivered. well, on-time or no change, i'm going home on monday to wait all day... "woah man, like, is this the line for Dead tickets?"

- emilio
(i guess i should start cleaning up the 7600+G3)

updated status for tamtam

tamtam, here's my updated info for the spreadsheet -

G5 w/ BT+BT mouse & keyboard -- shipped 9/6
DOA, kernel panics and blemish on front grill
Apple Store genius ordered replacement cpu today -- 9/17

So I'm back to waiting, but I have been told my replacement will be expedited, rather than placed at the end of the queue.

Also, I think the user iphoenix on the spreadsheet is a second copy of my order....

ps : my nephew is about to order a dual 2.0, within 15 minutes, and he'll be receiving it within a week, what a sour apple 😱 😉

good news at last for aussies

Finally some good news for us Australians.

My 2.5 with nVidia 6800 has gone from a "vague October" status to "3-5 Weeks". (!!!)

This is the first sign for the Aussies that some progress has been made. Our 6800 machines may actually almost be in existance! And besides, what's 3 more weeks when you've waited 3 months?!

yipeee, my 2.5/250G/2GRam/6800DDL/23" will be here sooooon.

YAY. Props to Apple for providing us with a scrap of hope! It's a pity I finish university in 7 weeks 🙁 but at least I might have my baby for the final two weeks of "crunch time". 😀

Just got my 2.5

Got the call from my local apple store here in cincinnati on wed that my 2.5 was in, ran down and picked it up right away, but was too busy with work and family this week to really play with it. Set it up yesterday - WOW! I don't know much about benchmarks etc, but compared to my 800 15" imac, it's like going from the flntstones to the jetsons! Was pleasantly surprised how easy the firewire file transfer was - flawless. My needs are quite basic (IDVD.Imovie.Iphoto) etc, but it is amazing how the new system thouroughly enhances the mac experience. I have enjoyed reading and learning about the 2.5's over the past few months on this forum - thanks to everyone. Thought I would be happy with my 3yr old samsng 17" lcd, I'll be at the apple store to pick up a 23"incher today....Damm-I hate apple.
Take Care

now i'm excited:

Congratulations rev.emilio. That is lucky that you have a friend with a van. Will look forward to seeing your pictures.

I agree, those that have received their G5 should stick around to encourage others.

A light at the end of the tunnel, perhaps...

There's some info that might be interesting to all of you who are still waiting for your PMs:

In another thread a guy who says he's working for an Apple retailer in Canada claims to have got information "from up the supply chain" that Apple will release a PB G5 in October or November. In another post further down the thread he says IBM has overcome its problems and that the G5 is in fine supply. If we're really this close to the PB G5 release, IBM must have resolved its yield problems, otherwise Apple wouldn't release yet another G5 product. I'm skeptical but it would be great if this guy was right.

Hi, that is interesting, but I think the biggest slice of those of us still waiting for a machine are being held up by the supply of Nvidea 6800 cards!

By the way, do you think the new Powerbook design will allow for one of those monsters (6800 cards) to drive a 30" screen? 😀

Yes, of course and it will also feature the brand new 2.8 GHz G5. Since there is no room for the liquid cooling system, you will have to connect it to a tap like washing machine 😀

Wow - I'm pretty jealous of you guys getting 2.5s. I already have a dual 2.0 so I probably shouldn't be too jealous but I am 🙂

Actually I am still waiting for my 6800 just by itself so I sympathize with people who have had their whole machine held up by this card...

If our systems were being held up by the Nvidia card, then we would all have our G5's with 9600XT cards by now.. And we would be posting under a new thread called Nvidia 6800 Shipping! 🙄

first post, (I think 🙂).

I have been following this thread from day one. I am somewhat of a straggler as I waited until the 13th of august to order my machine as I was waiting for them to start showing up in stores and just go pick one up. Three months later I gave up and placed my order with the apple store (USA) and decided to go ahead and order the nVidia 6800 as well since I am going to be working in Maya. My "supposed" ship date is monday the 20th of september (2 days from now) and I haven't heard a thing and this date has not been changed one time.

Needless to say I doubt it will ship on monday.

My question is what the hell are they thinking waiting untill the last minute to tell people that they are not going to get their computer for another month or so? I am sure that they have known for some time that the 6800 cards are not and will not be ready for some time to come.

Am I correct in the assumption that not one single person has received a 6800 card to date?

If this is the case are they sending the machines with the ATi card and updating with the nVidia later (like some have gotten on the board) or do you have to call them and request this to happen?

This is Bull____. Especially when people who ordered on day one have yet to get their machines. Apple products are wonderful but their service and arrogant attitude is lousy.

Yes, BUT:

When we got the message on 8/18 that our 6800's were delayed, EVEN IF YOU TOLD THEM TO SHIP THE COMPUTER NOW AND THE 6800 LATER, your computer would still be delayed ANOTHER TWO WEEKS.

THAT's the worst part--people who bought on June 30th getting computers AFTER people who ordered in late July.

This made me more angry than anything else.

Luckily, while perusing a shopping center on 8/21 (the day after my computer should have shipped.. the 2nd time), I happened on an Apple Retail store and found out they'd just gotten 5 more DP2.5s (2 of which had been sold earlier that day). So when I finally got around to choosing my option (wait for comp+6800, wait less for the comp and wait more for the 6800 later, or just let Apple cancel the order), I chose to get the comp 'soon' (2 weeks) and so the 6800 would be separate (at a $200 reduced price), and then called up and canceled the computer part of the order.

The thing is, if I hadn't canceled the comp part, but still chose to get the comp separate, some people have reported STILL GETTING DELAYED FOR THE 3RD TIME EVEN IF IT'S A STOCK MACHINE.

So let's recap:
• Bought on 6/28 ETA7/20
• Delayed on 7/20 ETA8/20
• Delayed on 8/20 ETA9/03 (ship mine-separate-choosers) or ETA9/13 (ship mine 6800+comp choosers)
• Separate-choosers delayed on 9/03 ETA10/03*
• 6800+comp choosers delayed on 9/13 ETA10/13

All delays were within hours of their shipping times.

*I think some separate-choosers have actually received their computers, I'm not sure though.

It'll be 3 and a half months waiting for my 6800 card when it's all over, if they delay it again I'm gonna be pissed.

Recevied any?

I've been following this thread since day one. (How many times have we all heard this?) Now, you can all jump on the newbie for the next comment. Realizing that most Japanese only use Japanese, has anyone in Japan even got the 2.5 duals yet? I know there is at least one other person from Japan reading this list, does anyone know? Ordered Aug 22 with Sept 29 ship date, no change in satus, basically stock set up. One guy in Germany gets his ordered mid Aug, Japans Apples biggest overseas market, are they sending them any? Sorry, I just want to hug a fast Mac, getting restless, must remain calm, must remain calm, calm.....

Not sure and I don't care. I usually don't post on forums like this because of jerks. All you have to do is make one post and they show up. Take that however you want.

The orginal quote was mine. I was never refering to you, only the obvious. So since you quoted me in your post in reference to me personally? Just curious. If it is my man, I do not think appropiate for forums, I like many others here are only awaiting there Macs, I wish to offend no one, please remain calm.

Found out yesterday from the guy at COMP USA that my shipping date was bumped from 9/15 to 9/20, which isn't that bad. So assuming all goes well it should ship on monday, and hopefully be here by next weekend. By the way, I ordered mine on 7/1.

6800, starting to regret this one....

ok, I have paid apple 8000 quid for a computer(G5 2x2.5) and 23inch screen plus the 6800, and 1 gig of ram. And they can´t give me the same deal with shipping the 6800 card later, as they do in the us (im in norway)???

Has anybody in europe had any luck with getting this deal? I tried to mail applestore about it but no response thus far.

Ordered on 6/11 reordered for gfxcard 6/28

ordernr:W754..... 😕

starting to lose hope here, I dont even have a ship date on the orderstatus page!!!

I did take a little offense to what you stated. And I truly don't post in these types of forums for the very reason I stated. I do however follow this stuff very closely as I make my living off of these machines and I have been without a computer for a month now. I am sorry that I misunderstood your intentions and I am remaining calm 😎

I am no newbie here just a lurker.

I do feel that my questions are valid. I haven't heard a thing from the mothership and I am a professional (as probably everyone else here that is ordering this vaporware) that really needs this computer. I decided to wait because I have been through this before when ordering a apple computer. Although this one takes the cake. I can't believe how badly this has been handled by apple. I thought that I would wait until I could just go and pick up a computer but the only place that seems to have these things is the apple stores (how convenient) and there is not one anywhere near where I live.

Once again sorry for the misunderstanding and I hope your machine gets to you soon. I hope we can all get throught this catastrophe of customer service.
