wow sorry you guys are still here. having used the machine for a few weeks now, i can honestly say that they are as fabulous as you're hoping they'll be. The biggest speed up is in multi-tasking. you can rip a DVD, convert files in iTunes, copy large files, surf, run a VNC client, all at the same time easily. This is where the machine takes off. i can easily see the long-term time benefits as being significant.
Klaus i'm pulling for you man. Belgium is gonna get a major shipment the 20th i just know it!

it really is impressive. i honestly was underwhelmed when i first booted up. surfing and such didn't seem much different. but then i started doing conversions and putting pressure on it, and it just doesn't quit. also, it switches between ongoing processes very quickly. so the net effect is that you feel somewhat invincible. i'm not quite there yet, as i keep thinking a kernel panic must be around the corner, but so far, so good (i've had them, but they've been software related). i especially notice the speed because i have my powerbook hooked up via VNC, and that bogs down noticeably under stress, while the G5 doesn't seem fazed by anything. again, i was copying a DVD to disk, converting a copied one to mp4, tagging files in iTunes, converting via LAME, surfing, copying files, and running VNC all at once. So really guys, they're sweet machines. also, the fan revving is not a big deal at all. they are not whisper quiet. that's to be expected. they are quiet for big towers, though.
Middle East Shipments
Is anybody here from the middle east ?
I ordered a DP 2.5 1GB ram on June 16, and still not a word from the reseller.
Lately I got bumped from mid September to late October.

Just shipped... without a bump!
After having looked at this thread a number of times I was expecting that my initial Apple Store (US) "On or before" date would be missed. To my surprise it appears that Apple is slowly catching up because they have met my "On or before" date (August 21)... I just got a shipment notification! So it appears they are shipping in under five weeks now (at least for US non-6800 orders). Maybe this bodes well for the other areas of the world.

I ordered them on the day of announcement some 3 months ago. all I have to do now is set them up.....It's play time!!!!!!

How did you get that info? Did you call Applebenelux as well? I called them last friday, but was unable to get in touch with my "contact".. Because I asked directly for somebody of the staff, the receptionist allways put me through directly. I think she assumes that I know her for some reason or another.. But friday, the contact was busy and some sort of a superior member of staff started to ask questions about what I wanted to know and how I knew my contact... so .. they're on to me 😉 ...
Will call her again this thursday..
but.... again... ONLY 2???? waaw.. I know we are a small country, and only have about 10 milion people living in here, but that would be the same as serving New York with only 2 G5's.. Or Paris, or ...

It's not the online apple store, I think they are in Brussels. Anyway, a girl answered, and said at first she didn't have any info on orders or anything, but I pushed a little, explaining our frustration and demanding some info on availability of the dual 2.5 in Belgium. She then went to a productmanager who said to her there would be 2 machines coming in this week. She excused herself for not being able to give me some good news, but said it was due to supply issues, and mainly because we are such a small country, comparing to other european countries and the US.
But then again, the market for Apple isn't able to grow in belgium, because there are hardly any machines coming in..
She said I could call back anytime to check in,because she couldn't make any projections on dates for arrival or anything, so i'll be doing that this afternoon.
I'll check back if I have more info.

Belgium delivery update (applies to benelux as well I think)
Well,
Just got off the phone with Apple benelux again, the girl that answered directed me towards the productmanager (who were very friendly I must say) and he didn't have a lot of news for us. Except that there idd had been 2 machines delivered. And that the numbers he is talking about apply to both online customers as resellers. They are trickling in as it is.
I asked him about the reason why stock machines aren't being delivered, and only BTO's are shipping (also limited). And apparently, for the resellers, if they order standard configs, apple tends to think that they are machines for the warehouse, and not for specific customer orders. BTO are especially for customers, so these get priority. It wouldn't make any difference if I would order a configurated G5 from the online apple store right now, I wouldn't have it any sooner than through my reseller.

He had no news about future deliveries or when we should be expecting our machines, and again, they apologized for the inconvenience.
