Did you order the nvidia 6800? that could deay your order into october. If you did, i'd see if apple would compensate you by shipping your g5 with the 9600 card and ship the 6800 to you when it's available.

I've just called again to inquire about my order (currently marked as 'on or before 24/09') and the rep said she thought it would be pretty likely that it will ship before that. It's quite cruel really. I could tell she saw some indication on her screen that there's no reason it would wait until Friday before shipping -- but she couldn't 'say for sure'... 🙁
I've got my new desk all ready and waiting. Temporarily graced by my workhorse G4/500 at the moment. The same workhorse will be consigned to downloads and archive storage.

I called the same phonenumber, but I asked directly for the productmanager, wich was a lady?? Or maybe I have the marketingmanager.. I don't know. Her name is Katrien Pauwels. And she has info every thursday morning about how many will ship next week.
So it's no use in calling them 24/7. I know techdata Belgium alone has 60 machines in Backorder!! If 2 a week also include the online orders, then we have a problem.
If they not start shipping them with at least 100 a week, then we will see them in january!!! or LATER..
That is unexceptable.. october 6th is my ultimate shippingdate. If I don't have it by then.. I'm really getting into trouble with my schoolwork.

If you write a letters (what seems to be more than apropriate in this situation) maybe you can send it to apple benelux + a copy to apple headquarters. I think apple benelux is doing the best they can - the big spoilers are in the apple headquarters.
Of course apple benelux is the local representative, and they have to try to give us correct information.

Delayed yet again!
OK, ignore my post earlier up on this page where I was a little excited because I thought my machine would ship earlier than Friday. Just got a new email (sent conveniently after the phone lines closed) that my order is now not expected to ship until the 22nd of October!
Now, the only thing I can think of to try to keep a positive feeling about this is that MAYBE they're just referring to the 6800 card portion of my order -- as it has since been split up (shipping with a 9600XT), etc.

Apple Employee orders are pushed to the back...
I just got off the phone with apple and they told me that because I purchased my machine thru the apple employee program, my order is not priority and will be shipped out after other orders.
That's so wrong! Apple has always said that they fill orders in as they come, BS! I had ordered a G5 in late June, but after it was delayed 5 times, I cancelled the order. ARG!!

My order due to ship on or before 24/9 has been shipped today,so there may be hope orders due on Friday are starting to be sent out.
No word on when the 6800 will show,but not too worried about that just now,can't wait for my first new "baby" to arrive,though I'll be even more excited when the real one comes!!! 🙂

Well, my order still says 'on or before 09/20/2004' but, at least here on the East Coast, we're quickly surpassing that date. Hmmmm.....approaching almost 3 months on this order. Joy! ..and I didn't even order a 6800. 🙂

$400 for 9800XT??
Here are the posted specs for the $400 9800XT card - note that it say s 4X or 2 X compatible AGP - I thought the new G5s were 8X AGP?
Also - my 9600xt seems good but I can only imagine what a 6800 will look like...
Plus, at $405 upgrade price, $549 edu price or $599 full price there is no reason to skip the $199 max additional cost and stop at a 9800.... unless of course you want in in this calender year! ;-)

my order was supposed to ship today. I knew it wouldn't as I ordered the 6800 vaporware graphics processor. Just checked my status page and my order was pushed back to October 22nd. So I called and bitched at them. I know it won't help me get a computer quicker but I feel a whole lot better 🙂

I'm beginning to wonder if my entire order has been misconstrued by a lazy warehouse worker who saw my original CTO with the 6800 card, and delayed the whole order!
Can't wait for 8 AM when the phone lines open again to sort this out.
And if the answer is 22 October - I WILL be cancelling this time. No ifs, ands, or buts. (Unless of course they make it worth my while...)

And yes, Apple benelux is doing everything they can. if they don't get more, they can't do more.. But maybe a letter of complaint will help somehow. Whatever you do, keep me in touch, Maybe I can help you. 2 persons, or more, have more effect than one.
