Dual G5 2.5 from Local Apple Store

Just got a call from my local Apple Store, they are holding (1) Dual G5 2.5 for me. They just got one in after they sold the one they were holding for me !
They are giving me a 14 day money back return policy and a 30 day store credit return capability so it could amount to an interesting Test Drive. My thought is to get a local apple Store to hold one for you if you can and see if you can get a similar arrangement, then you could be using a Dual G5 2.5 while you wait for the 6800 card fiasco to get sorted out. Certainly in 14 days or so you'll see whether ANYONE actually reports getting a dual 2.5 with a 6800 and 30- HD Aluminum Display iin there hott hands.
I was thinking of placing an order for a dual 2.5 with 6800 through the Apple Dev Store but I want to see it, feel it, touch it, hear and smell it first !
Good luck to you. I'll report back.

I know this isn't the right place to ask this but I'm a little anxious....I recieved my dual 2.5 last week. Just yesterday a problem occurred after sleeping. I can put it to sleep fine by pressing the button, and it will wake up fine with either the mouse or the keyboard. But as soon as it is awake, none of my inputs plugged into my computer work. The keyboard, mouse, and ipod. Nothing will get a response on screen. Also after putting it to sleep it will not go back to sleep by pressing the button and I have no way of doing it through the OS. The only thing I can do is hold down the power button until it turns off. Since this has happened I have run the extended hardware test with everything passing, repaired permissions, and restarted multiple times. I am kind of out if ideas and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or this has happened to anyone.

Since it's new, try doing a clean install of the OS. Then look for any firmware updates and install the latest software updates.

Finally!

Apple says the beast has actually shipped, after 3 mo., 17 days.

Not,"will ship!"

Not,"going to ship!" But,"shipped!"

With Fed Ex tracking! I'll believe it when I see it.

panicked g5?

Have any of the other 2.5 G5 owers witnessed this type of behavior? My machine every once in a while gets all panicky and thinks the processors are running REAL how (aka 170 -> 180 -> 190 F). The machine automatically goes to sleep. I'll wake it up less than 2 seconds later and the die temperatures are back down to the 130F area and the machine is sitting pretty. The funny thing is this just happened and I witnessed it happen. AllI was doing was playing mp3's with iTunes and browsing the web using Safari (and iChat was open, duh). Weird. I got to hear the afterburner like sounds of the fans rive up to max speed just before it gave up and went to sleep. The funniest thing is the ambient temperature in teh case is 66F, very cool. And how I'm running doing the same stuff and the die temperature are holding solid at 135 each. Weird! I think there are bugs in Apple's temperature sensing and fan control drivers. We all have noticed the quite but regular fan bursts. Weird, looking for a software update that'll fix these little glitches soon. I'm almost convinced these are software bugs and my machine is actually running perfectly fine hardware wise....

My Order

So I ordered mine on the 16th of September. The specs are as follows:

2.5GHz
512MB RAM (to be upgraded by reseller, well me actually)
250GB HDD (Apple)
9600XT
Airport Extreme Card (to be upgrade by me)
BT (Apple)

I ordered through a reseller who seemed to think that they were going to get a shipment from Apple in the next week or so but didn't know if they were going to be able to fill my order with the shipment.

I'm not really counting on it to tell you the truth, I upgraded my PowerBook to 1GB RAM so it's going nicely until the main machine arrives.

Another one bites the dust

Like many, I've been reading this thread for some time now and have finally decided to post.

I ordered my stock G5 on August 15, but didn't check my order status on the apple website until recently (early last week).

Since I checked the order status, I've had the same "On or Before Date" - September 21.

Today is September 21, and even though my machine is just stock I don't have a good feeling about it shipping today (I have no luck with these kind of things).

One thing that is strange is that of all the other posts in this thread i haven't noticed anyone else with that ship date. Usually the 20th or the 24th, but no 21st's. The only thing I can imagine is that I ordered through the edu store so that may have something to do with it (I wouldn't put it past Apple to put it's student buyers at the end of the list).

Weclome beatnik, glad to have you around. Hopefully your machine will ship on schedule, it is completely stock, so there shouldn't be any delays but..we're talking about Apple here, so you can't be sure. But there is good hope!

Be sure to keep us posted here.

I'm beginning to wonder if my entire order has been misconstrued by a lazy warehouse worker who saw my original CTO with the 6800 card, and delayed the whole order!

Can't wait for 8 AM when the phone lines open again to sort this out.

And if the answer is 22 October - I WILL be cancelling this time. No ifs, ands, or buts. (Unless of course they make it worth my while...)
Well, I called shortly after 8 AM, and was informed that my computer was ready yesterday( ) and that it will be 'picked' in the warehouse today along with the Apple Protection Plan. She said the 'delayed until 22 October' was probably in reference to the 6800 card AND the 30" monitor (which is fine because it would be cruel to stare at the beautiful monitor and not be able to fire it up.)

Still, October 22! :(

In the meantime, my current 19" LG flatscreen will have to suffice...

Thanks Klaus. It actually isn't COMPLETELY stock, I did add RAM to have 1GB, but I don't see how that would delay anything. I figured I could upgrade to a better video card and/or display once they became available and if I could afford it.

Though yours shouldn't really have been delayed either, since you went with the 9600xt and no 6800 and/or 30" display. Regardless, you ordered two months before me so I admire your patience.

Does anyone know anything about future upgrade possibilities with this machine, namely CPU upgrades? (ie. if they release a 3.0 or 3.5, etc. will it be possible to upgrade?) Having seen the massive heat sinks (or liquid cooling systems, whatever) surrounding the CPU's it seems rather cumbersome.

Paritally shipped

Well, I haven't received the email from Apple yet, but the online order status reveals that the ZOAC CTO has shipped!

My experience may be instructive here. I have been shamelessly lurking and picking up useful pieces of advice from contributors to the thread. About a week ago, following the advice given by a number of people, I asked Apple to separate my G5 order from the 6800. It took two goes but then they did it. My wife joked at the time that it would be funny if the 6800 arrived before the G5. When I checked my order status, lo and behold, the 6800 was set to be shipped on 25/10/04 (10/25/04) and the G5 was set to ship 29/10/04 (10/29/04). I was all set to deliver a few choice words to Apple yesterday but my machine actually shipped over the weekend. Keep the faith and let's hope common sense and fairness prevail at Cupertino.

Jumpin' in...

Hi guys,

I'm jumping right in, the water seems to be nice and chilly...

First of all: I'm totally feeling for all of you guys waiting and waiting until it hurts so bad you want to do some crazy stuff. After saving up money for like forever, i am finally able to order my own holy G5.

Here is what I ordered:

G5 Dual 2.5
2 GB RAM (installed by reseller)
ATI 9800 XT (BTO)
Lacie ElectronBlue IV 19' CRT (probably already waiting)

I ordered through mail-a-mac, a dutch mailorder company, last friday september 17. I presume that my order was processsed like this monday (yesterday) so i am officially waiting like for one day! I am already losing it! And coming across this thread haven't cheered me up too much!

So the thing is i am hoping for some kind of a catch-up-theory where you guys will get your babies like in the next couple of days and that as soon as those long waiting orders are fulfilled, i will have to wait relatively less longer than you guys did.

Any thoughts on this?

-Skills

PS.
Peer, since we are both in the netherlands will you please keep the info coming? I would be very grateful. Cheers.

Hehe, nice glassbathroom, hopefully it won't take long to ship to your house. I have the feeling all the non-benelux regulars are beginning to receive their machines. At least those who didn't leave the 6800 in their machine or didn't order one in the first place.

Pretty soon, it's gonna be us benelux guys alone in here :D Would be nice if you uk-folks check in from time to time to report on your machines

congrats!

Again, bad news Klaus, my order changed today from 10/6 to 10/13 !!!!

again a week later!

This is starting to get really really really bad.

I hate Apple right now.. I can't help it.. And people who know me know now that I'm really really pissed off right now. Otherwise I would not say something like that..

How can they do this?? Promise a machine for july, and deliver (if they actually DO deliver) octobre 13th!!!!!

Is there someone here who can give me an adress of Apple in Cupertino, and some info where I can write a letter of complaint to??

I mean, I can allways write on at Apple's main office in Cupertino, but I want to talk to the right person, anyone?

Ge4-ce

That's almost another month of waiting on those G5's... I bet that date is the same for the 60 backorders at techdata, so you aren't even sure yet they will receive a batch large enough to cover all these orders.

You are right, this is getting ridiculous. I can understand we are a small country and do not have priority over other countries, but then don't introduce them and say they will ship at the same time in the whole world!

If they would of set shipping in july for us orders, and shipping in september for european orders, than I wouldn't be upset, but this isn't the case.

I'll write a letter tonight, along with my order confirmation from my dealer, i'll send it to Apple Benelux, and ask for explanations. that'll make 2 of us who are rightiously complaining.

If i tell anyone i'm waiting over 3 months, just for a computer, I can basically tell by the look on their face that they think i'm crazy.
