Maybe the fastest way to get one will be to walk into an Apple Store next week (or whenever they actually ship) and just get one out of stock.... I was hoping to get a Bluetooth module, but I suppose I could live without it.
.

This is what I decided to do. I figured that if I needed BT I would add the dongle off the back and be done with it.

Grabbing a stock machine from Apple Retail may well be the way to go...

What a frustrating wait....

According to Apple's Support site, 10.3.4 is the OS version that comes with the Power Mac G5 (June 2004). There is nothing that states that there is a difference due to processor speed. I hope this is correct and that the 2.5s ship ASAP!

Actually, the more I think about it (and after I just got some sleep) it seems like this might not prove anything. It says in a note above that later releases may have had later systems.

The original June 2004 PM G5s (the revised 2.0 & 1.8s) did in fact have 10.3.4 but the 2.5s have yet to be released. I don't know if this list includes them yet - so I think that they might still need 10.3.5 - hopefully we'll know for sure real soon.

For Those of You Still Interested...

The french information site (they usual don't print rumors) MacBidouille says that a major French reseller has moved their shipping date back to 8/18.

http://hardmac.com/

don't know if this is accurate or maybe only pertains to international orders. Coincidentally (?) another french rumor site (http://croquer.free.fr/ - one which is often a little more out there with its predictions) says that 10.3.5 is set for release on 8/17. Not quite sure how they would obtain such information, but i thought i'd pass it along to those keeping score at home.

3 more days till at least some more clarity... hang in there.

Computer Names

For those of you into naming your computers... Anyone think of any names for their 2.5ers yet?

Mines gonna be "Torero"

I don't think support for the G5 2.5s is the hold-up on OS X 10.3.5 nor is it required for the G5 2.5s. We've seen another statement in this thread that indicated they'd ship with 10.3.4. Who knows for sure if that's true? I'd bet that 10.3.4, when released only two weeks before the announcement of the new PowerMac lineup, already had support for all of the new machines.

But... what else isn't shipping yet that {seems like it} would certainly require OS support? The 30" Cinema Display. There is some kind of resolution limit that caused the requirement for a card that could supply two signals to the 30" displays. It depends on where the limit exists. Is it part of the OS, the graphics card, or both? I think the OS is involved. The display control panel has to recognize the two signals as one gigantic screen. Maybe all of it is handled on the card. I have no clue. Still, if for some reason, the G5 2.5s require and/or are waiting on 10.3.5, I'd bet that the hold-up is support for the 30" display and that new mega-card. The 30" displays can't ship until the OS can support them and the graphics card. However, if the G5 2.5s don't require 10.3.5 wouldn't it make more sense to get them out the door? I'm sick, my head is stuffy, and I'm rambling. Sorry.

If the 30" display is not supported, then what about the depictured model at wwdc?

Those machines were said to be running a very early build of 10.3.5 and from initial reports it was pretty buggy.

That actually makes sense, because the 2.5 machines may have been running 10.3.5, but they also had a 30" connected to them. Whose to say the OS wasn't for that?

No offense, but what does "depictured" mean? Anyway, just 'cause they were able to demo it, most likely using a pre-prod graphics card and OS, doesn't mean that they haven't found major bugs with it since. Remember when one of the 10.3.x updates (might have been a 10.2.x) was pulled because after they released it they found major problems with the 20" Flat-panel iMac's video? Sometimes they have to do all kinds of fancy rigging to pull off a demo of a pre-production unit. It could happen.

I checked my bank account this morning and saw a large hold for slightly over $3K. I already have my new display and it seems that Apple is now in the process of making my 2.5DP.

Unless it was an actual charge then I'm afraid it might not mean anything. Unfortunately there are people who've had their accounts on hold for over a month.

2 more days for them to ship. Apple will probably ship them on the 30th and we won't see them till the first week of August. Ho well, I guess I'll just go back to playing Halo on my G4 until the G5 gets here...

I am going to call mine either 'The Duke' on account of its size and stature, or 'Zaphod' (on account of its dual brains)

..although... in reality, I will probably call it something original like 'G5|Dual2.5' :)

I'm calling mine "the pain in my #!%" until it finally gets here. i can't stand waiting anymore.

sorry had to blow off some steam.

Those with overnight or one day shipping could very well have their G5 on Friday or Saturday. Our wait is almost at an end.

Wow. Zaphod would be a perfect name.

I like your thinking son, and might have to steal your idea.

A guy at Techdata (a distributer) where I ordered my 2.5 said that the delays were due to holiday in Taiwan. The fabric where they make stuff that should belong into a PowerMac is closed for 3 weeks..

Now.. I really find that Hard to believe.. As if Apple would not know the holidayseason of the factory's where they build things for them..

I just hope the guy at techdata didn't knew what he was talking about..
