My experience so far:
I placed my G5 Dual 2.5 (with 30 inch cinema display and 6800 card) order on 8/18/2004 and its shipping date was pushed to 10/24/2004 two days ago (second delay). I called Apple and had them send me the machine with a 9600 card for now, pulling the date back to 10/5/2004. The Apple rep stated that the 30-inch displays were on hand in a warehouse but could not be shipped without being tested with the 6800 cards.

My question here is: should I have pushed for more compensation than that? It seems as though a few members on here have been able to convince Apple to throw in some 'goodies' to make their wait more bearable. I don't remember a wait this bad since waiting for the G4 500 MHz Sawtooth to ship back in 1999-2000. I hope a G5 Dual 3 configuration doesn't come out as soon as my order finally arrives. :)

I wonder what is holding up the NVIDA 6800 cards? They should have let Apple know of problems sooner, Apple should be informing customers.

The compensation you got, it depends on how you feel about the compnestion. Some have received $100 off or free overnigth shipping. I think that iit is all in how you approach the person on the phone. Being polite, but firm goes a long way.

I feel for all who have ordered a Dual 2.5Ghz Power Mac and have still not received it. I was considering one for myself since they were released back in June 9th but was leary of the Liquid cooling and wanted to see some real benchmarks first, so I decided to wait until others got theirs first. Almost 4 months later and there are only a handfull of people who have gotten them and the wait time for new orders is still 3-5 weeks!!
At this rate I have found little reviews of the machine much less to say any thorough benchmarks.

These delays have turned me off to this current top of the line Power Mac. Even if I ordered mine now there is a chance that I might not see one well into November or Maybe even December especially if I were to order BTO with a Geforce 6800Ultra. No thanks at this rate if I were to Order one by the time I get it new Power Mac revisions might be just 1-3 months away.

These shipping delays also do not settle any of my reservations about the LCS either. These delays leave one to speculate that perhaps Apple choice of implementing LCS is not as reliable as one would believe thus more Quality Assurance measures are being taken slowing delivery. These Delays also lead me to believe that IBM is still having a very difficult time churning out these 2.5Ghz chips which makes me wonder how reliable they are at that clockspeed.

Sorry to rub it in guys, but I have just spent 2 days setting up 4 Dual 2.5 G5's. Boy there FAST.
I waited for 3 months. Be patient.....you will love it when they arive :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :p

UK June Orders

Am ready to blow a fuse with our UK dealer Cancom who seem to be unable to get any information at all on the delivery of my 2.5, bluetooth and 1 gig of ram.

It would be good to know how many other people who ordered in June are still waiting. When you here of people ordering in August and already having delivery it does nothing but make my blood boil!

Hi all, my first post here,
I ordered a 2.5 from Cancom UK back in June, seems like Apple arn't telling them anything.
A 3 month wait is beyond a joke.

Has anyone in the UK received a 2.5 from a UK dealer ?

THERE IS A GOD!

Ordered - 8/15
1st "On or Before" Date - 9/21
2nd "On or Before Date - 10/06
Shipped - 9/22 :D

I'm so glad I got overnight, I don't think I could handle the 10 day wait at this point.

Strange thing about the FedEx tracking number though, it's not coming through. Of course.

<fingers crossed>

I sincerely doubt this. If they cannot get this top of the line PM out without significant backorders, how do you think its possible that they'll be ready to release a new model in a month - before they've even caught up with the 2.5 backorders.

I find it hard to believe that if IBM cannot produce enough of the 2.5 chips to fill demand right now, that they'll have no problem pumping out 2.8/3.0 chips - and that these "new" machines will be immediately available (and in large quantities of course). I was waiting since last november to get a new machine. And everyone was saying that revisions were right around the corner. I waited almost a year for those revisions. I feel pretty comfident that the 2.5 is going to remain the top of the line well into the next year.

My advice, if you need a PM and want the best, order the 2.5 now. This machine is absolutely amazing. The fastest I have ever used. Otherwise, you're just going to be waiting for a long time.

I tend to agree -- and seem to recall that Apple once 'speed dumped' the Powermac line due to supply problems.

If they do spruce up the line before Christmas, I expect it'll be something like a dual-layer DVD burner, 300 GB drives, and iLife and/or Production Suite bundles.

Congratulations beatnik! It gives me some hope.

My history:

2d on or before: 10/6
But no smiles here yet.

From what location is your G5 being shipped. Mine was supposed to come from Fullerton, CA.

I know how you feel. There was some guy who ordered five days after me and got it before me, and there are people (as you know) who ordered in June and still haven't received theirs. I don't understand it. My system was stock other than an added 512Mb or RAM.

To answer your question, I'm not really sure where it was supposed to be shipped from. How can I find that out? I can tell you were it is being shipped TO, which is Connecticut.

Good luck man. I hope you get a shipping notice soon.

I really had to pester the rep to get an answer as to where it would ship from. They seem to be cagy about giving out that information. Maybe they're worried about people camping out at the doors of the factory? The first rep I spoke with cautioned me that upgrading the shipping to overnight might not be worth the cost if the computer was being shipped from someplace close to where I live, since it would come by truck anyway. She told me that my order would come from Southern California. Since I'm in the north, that made overnight shipping worthwhile. The second rep eventually told me that Fullerton was the location.

My order differs from the stock order in that it includes 2 x 250GB drives, the 9800 video card and bluetooth. I suspect that it is the card that is holding things up, and wish they would ship with the 9600 and send the 9800 later. But they claim that they don't have the track record of late supplies of the video card with the 9800 that they do with the Nvidia 6800.

Have fun with your new computer.

Yeah that's what I thought. I don't know where that guy got his information, but when you look online the SuperDrive doesn't support DVD±RW.

Wow

Okay, so strap in guys, this might get a little confusing.

So this morning I get a shipment notification email from Apple, received last night @ 2:20am. What a great way to wake up, huh?

So I check the tracking number, and it comes back from FedEx as, "No scan record for the following shipments has been received by our system yet."

I try it a few more times throughout the day with no changes in the result. Finally I call Apple, and "Jose" tells me that it was shipped out last night at around midnight and that I should give it a few more hours for the scan record to kick in.

So I do. Again, no results.

I call FedEx, and they tell me that they haven't even picked up the package yet and that I should call Apple.

So I call Apple back, and first he asks me to give it another 24 hours, then he tells me to give it until tonight because California is 3 hours behind, so I need to give the FedEx guy time to scan it. I don't really understand that, because any other package I've ever tracked has always been scanned upon pickup.

Regardless, though I am happy that it is supposedly in transit, it does seem fitting that Apple would jump the gun and tell me it's shipped a computer that it hasn't, just as it jumped the gun when they sold it to me before it was even available.

The only information I was able to gleen from him other than this was that it is being shipped from Sacramento, CA, so whenever it IS picked up it WILL be overnighted to me. Apparently I lucked out in this case, because SUPPOSEDLY most orders are made in Europe - according to this guy. That seems a little hard to believe as well considering how many Europeans have been posting on here. Anyway, apparently I lucked out when I ordered it because the overnight shipping wouldn't have applied if it HAD been shipped from Europe (and I basically would have just been paying to overnight a monitor I couldn't use).

The mistery continues... I'll keep you guys posted on my progress and when it does finally arrive, good luck to you all as well.

A few of us over here in Europe received notification by email late in the day after we noticed our online order status had changed to Paritally Shipped.

That was on the 21st (Tuesday). It is now 8:30 PM Thursday (23rd) and still the tracking URL is showing no data. It really is frustrating.

Of course, once it's on its way from Netherlands to us, we'll see entries for Tuesday, and Wednesday, and Thursday (and hopefully only one more day: Friday ) :D

I don't think you have to worry on this one. Apple generally ships full trailers; it takes a bit of time for FedEx to get it all processed.

Maybe I missed this in your post, but is your box shipping standard or express?

Tomorrow being my supposed (3rd times the charm, right?) ship date, I'll go to bed dreaming of such a happy A.M. email from Apple...

You can use DVD±RW with 3rd party software (toast).

Dual layer? no.

I have an issue... My g5 has been departing from the sort facility in california since friday... It is due to be delivered tomorrow... in syracuse? i think it should have hit another sort facility by now if it was going to make it here by tomorrow.

7-23 EDU shipped

Earlier today I was pondering who would be the president elect of the USA when my G5 arrives, then my shipment notification came (I didn't get excited initially because I assumed it was the stupid surge protector that Apple bumped the ship date on, maybe I should call up irate and demand overnight on my surge protector, tell them that I know for a fact that people who ordered surge protectors after me have already gotten them!).

Ordered 7-23 EDU, sched'd for 9-13 OOB, bumped to 11-3, shipped 9-22:
