Well, after a wait of 2 days I got my dual 2.5. I was rather shocked actually. I ordered it online, but then our local reseller said they were getting some in in the next couple of weeks so I cancelled the online order to wait for the local guys. 2 days later I was in the store and they said the G5 was there. I kept saying, "It's here?" "Yeah" "Right now?" "Yeah". Wow, I was in shock, so I came home with it. Wild. It's a thing of beauty.

You're lucky

 You're really lucky, man.

I order mine 4th of august and I'm still waiting and waiting and waiting zzzz.
Oh sorry.

PS. Enjoy man.

no 6800's yet as far as I can tell

I have a column for tracking which orders are with "6800" in the config. I Just did a sort and the results of all 6800 orders are as follows:

20 got their G5's
14 orders in transit
20 orders have not shipped.

Tamtam, I'm wondering if these people actually got their 6800's or just their computers?? I've searched around on other forums and can find no reports of people actually receiving 2.5's with 6800 installed. I think everybody on our spreadsheet that says they've received a G5 ( with the 6800 ) had the card split out and will receive it later.

Anybody actually get a 6800 yet?

My next OOB is next Friday - I've heard rumors that the production problems with the video card are resolved and Apple hopes to hit all October ship dates. So I'm going to wait until next Friday to see if my computer gets shipped. If not I'll demand that they split the card out. Oct 8th will be 9 weeks for me.

Hmmm

I'm thinking I will buy a 6800 when they start shipping. Either that or I will wait for an X800XT card to be released...

whilst I'm on my soap box...

I know this doesn't have JACK to do with 2.5's shipping, but one other bug bear of mine is that the so-called 'International English' keyboard I requested is a US keyboard.

I know I'm a US citizen, but I want a POUND Currency symbol above the '3', thank you, not a 'hash mark'...

Watch this space...

Was your 2.5 stock or was it customized in anyway? Congratulations on your purchase, enjoy. Try to hold down on the over enthusiasm. :D

As far as I know, no one has yet received a 6800. I have an estimated ship date of 10/15 for my G5 with 6800 and 10/08 for my 30" display (I had them shipped as available.).

Hopefully there will be much rejoicing on this forum in the next two weeks!

Another week...

Another week has started and i am nearing my 4 month ordering anniversary. Well, let´s see what the coming days have in store for us. I will contact (once again) my dealer this afternoon and will then head for a two day business trip to Belgium (Hello fellow waiters  ). I really hope that my G5 will arrive in the meantime.

All in all i have a very good feeling about this week...

Hi wolinho, hope you enjoy your short stay in the country :) And may the gods be with you and place a G5 on your doorstep when you return home!

I'm headed towards an apple seminar about video production this afternoon, so i'll see the 30" and dp 2.5 in action. Let's hope i can play with it at home within the next couple of days as well! :D

hehe... Imagine the G5 on the doorstep when you come home.. And when you close in, you see the box has been opened, you see pieces of packing foam out of order, and one piece next to the box.. you stand right in front of the box.. and ... IT'S EMPTY!!! a note says: "Sucker, who leaves a 3000 bucks worth of a machine on a doorstep for 2 whole days!"

and the waiting begins .... again...

anyway, Welcome to Belgium! enjoy your stay and whatever you do, DON'T LOOK at the guy with the purple-orange coat holding an umbrella covered with "Lays Chips original Flippo's"....

Mwoehahahahhaaa....

Anything in particular you can recommend to do/see in Brussels? What should i try for dinner?

Wolinho

Euhm, well, I'm not from Brussels, I live about an hour away, and I don't really know that many places to eat in Brussels. Mc Donalds is the only one :D.

Maybe in the "Atomium", those iron balls hanging in the air ;) . But don't know, never eaten there. Maybe some other guys can give you some better advice.

cheers

Yeah, already thought about that. I also want to have a look at the european parliament (no idea wether it´s worth it).

Here I go again!

Have got a replacement G5 coming my way -- with specific instructions that I am holding onto the one I've got until I get the new one, then sending the old one back.

A pain, yes, but better than sending it back and being without a new box for God-knows-how-many weeks!

I have made sure that I will STILL be able to flex the ability to return the whole kit (display, 6800, CTO) should it not live up to my expectations. The agent on the phone indicated this is called the 'remorse' period.

I am relatively sure that I will keep it -- I have already warmed to my new G5 -- maybe that's why it's overheating! :p

A side note: it really does generate a lot of heat! It was effectively heating my bedroom over the weekend, and my cats LOVE sitting downwind of the gulf stream it emits. :)

One of Belgium's specials are Mussels.. But you do have to like it.. That's something weird.. Or you like it, or you hate it. It's not like.. Sort of like it..

But If you like it, you definitly have to go to "Chez Léon" in the "Rue des Bouchers" in the centre of Brussels. If you ask people, they will guide you. Almost every one knows it. There is one big gallery (some sort of street with a glass roof) and it looks more like a shopping centre. it's called the Queens gallery. If you go in there, in the middle of this gallery, you can go to the left and right. that's the Rue des Bouchers. A very pittoresk place with TONS of restaurants and good food.

The restaurant at the atomium is more like a tourists thingy. Not that good, and more .. well I don't know.. Besides, the atomium is out of the centre, and you have to take the subway to get there. Buy a 2 day ticket. Subway is easy in Brussels.

Good Luck.. (especially with the guy with the umbrella...)

edit- I found a little map.. It's somewhere at the red dot

Thanks a lot. Sounds definitely better than a night at the hotel bar...

Glad to hear you've a replacement coming, better luck with this one I hope!

Just on the heat issue, whilst I've had no problems at all so far,no thermal runways or anything,I must agree about the amount of heat coming out of the back,it's like a hairdryer!
It must be gobbling up a fair amount of electricity to generate such warmth,so I'm not looking forward to my next bill!
:p

Sorry I thought that it was understood that since the card was not released that the numbers I quoted were for the G5 only, not the G5 and 6800 card combo. I do not intend to record the 6800 card shipments. I have enough trying to keep up on the G5 units status. I spend alot of time searching each contributing members posts in other MacRumors forums to see if they recieved their G5 without bothering to telling us in this thread. Alot of the orders we are tracking are by members who have only one post in MacRumors.

Great they are renovating it! Do you think they will add some 20 balls or more? Then it would really be a monument.. Now it is more like.. ehm..

well... how do you say it... ehm.. only thing left worth seeing? Oh no.. there is also the great little "Manneke Pis..." tssss.. even the man with the umbrella gets more attention.. but that's for another reason.. mwoehahahahaaaa...

Good day to all of you!

Glad to see that Mac users are also seasoned travelers! I personally like " La Marie Josephe" in Brussels, one of the best restaurant for mussels and they specialty "Tartare Steak a la Marie Joseph"... A must when in Brussels...

Back to business now:

1 - has anyone put more than 2x250 Gb HD in their mac... Can I put 4x250 Gb HD? If yes, can someone share setup / config / brand / cost?

2 - Has anyone transform / configure their mac to a super computer .... I mean transformed their mac into a beast? what are the options available... Since I can't use it yet, I would like to focus on making the 'baby' I ordered the craziest computer ever!

I was at the Apple Store in Chicago, a Flagship for Apple... They have no clue as to when they will have a 30" + Nvidia card in Store to show potential buyers!!! Apple is hurting them and us big Time!

Anyways...

Thanks for your help!

Hi, the Transintl site (I sent you a link the other day via private message) make a RAID solution allowing three additional drives in the cavity down by the fans. I would be hesitant to add anything that could disrupt air flow -- especially with my history of having the G5 suffering overheating.

There is another company doing this too, but I don't have the link to hand. The more expensive way is to get the fiber-channel card and connect to an XRaid :D

I saw a picture once of a G5 loaded with 6 harddrives.. But my guess is that this is a NO GO!

Apple only supports 2 hardrives. So not more than one extra drive. The guy I'm talking about pushed these drives between the memory, in the extra optical drive bay, and all around the G5. I think this will do bad to the airflow and your cooling will go bad.. warranty is gone when they find out.. There are good external disk options for extra storage.. from various vendors and various prices..

RAM is another crucial piece of the puzzle.. Photoshop timed double the performance when compared with 1 to 2 GigByte, and also from 2 to 4 GB, so adding to 4 GB will multiply photoshopperformance by 4 times. (when using large files offcourse) adding up to 8 GB, Photoshop did only a very slight improvement.

THen adding such a nvidia 6800 is a gaming and 3D animation thingy must! If the 9600 is standard, the 9800 XT does double the performance, and again, the 6800 from nVidia doubles that again. So here also 4 times an improvement.

and if you really really want to go to the bottom, I suggest a 15000 RPM SCSI raid system to put your apps and system on. You can always do this, if money is not your main concern. An Apple X-Raid with a fibreoptic card, will give you also some speedgain.. and so on and so on...
