More drives than 2 in a dual 2.5 G5

SNIP Back to business now: 1 - has anyone put more than 2x250 Gb HD in their mac... Can I put 4x250 Gb HD? If yes said:
Wiebetech has the G5JAM http://www.wiebetech.com/products/G5Jam.php
Uses 1 PCI Slot but check website for note on full length cards.

You could put 4 400 Gig drives in with this and put the original drive out of the G5 in an external FW enclosure with the System and Apps on it.
The Traydock allows you to do this with the original SATA drive
http://www.wiebetech.com/products/toughtech.php
======================
ProMax has the SATAMaxi for 5 total drives inside
http://www.promax.com/Products/SubCat/Storage/Internal SATA
======================
Transintl.com has the SwiftData200 for 5 drives inside
http://www.transintl.com/store/category.cfm?Category=2490&RequestTimeOut=500

These guys use the FirmTek SeriTek1S2 card to get the extra SATA connections inisde the G5 so 1 or 2 PCI slots are used.

If high-end speed is not a factor, external firewire 400/800 enclosures work good, if you only need storage.

Well..to all belgian guys. That october 14th date will probably not be met for the dual 2.5 G5's, the 1.8 and 2.0 backorders should be obsolete by that time. But they are still only sending a handful 2.5 G5's at a time..

I got this info from an apple rep at a video seminar. There were demo's of the production suite on ... yes.. correct, a dual 2.5 ghz machine.

At least I saw one in person, and even touched it!

Now I just feel silly that i wrote this last sentence :):)

That is OK klaus, it's on of those that you had to be there. No reason to feel silly at all.

Well i just visited my local Apple Centre in my hometown this weekend and asked a salesperson if he could tell me anything regarding the suspected delivery time on a dual 2.5 system. I asked him because there was actually a dual 2.5 in the shop! He said it would probably take about 4 weeks to get one if ordered today. I think this kind of proves my catching-up-theory stated a short time ago.

Hope this gives some hope to our benelux friends hanging around here.

As for me, I just entered my third week of waiting and begin to grow a lot of respect for most people on this board. Hang in there kids, we will be rewarded!

It sounds although you had an awesome time Skills. So if your theory is correct, you only have a week left. I'm still waiting for my local Apple Store to actually have a 2.5 on display.

YOU TOUCHED IT????? Why you dirty ..... !!! :) no it's cool.. it's ok.. relax..

What did they said besides the fact not to expect them Octobre 14th? Did they give a reason? Apologies? explanation? anything? Because what boders me a little is that I still did not had ANY response to my letter. (I think you did not either)

I think that at least out of politeness, they could answer the bloody letter..
Today the first time in my life, it crossed my mind of buying a dual Xeon.. But on the other hand.. I think that I would regret that..

Well, he only mentioned there is a very high demand for that particular machine...

I haven't had any response either, I think i'll call Apple Benelux this week and ask for the person who handles the complaints.

What bothers me as well, is the fact that my reseller received some BTO's, and still no stock machines (since I'm the first in line for one). Yours is stock too. I fear the stock orders are treated differently from bto orders. I already mentioned my assumption about the stock orders being referred to as actual stock for the resellers, and bto's specifically for customers. And the longer the wait, the more I'm beginning to believe my own assumption.

what bothers me as well (well it's a long list) is that the apple site still says 3-5 weeks for a standard model, well, newsflash for apple, my standard config has been on order for 16-17 weeks!

The past week my anxious wait was a bit more bearable, but now, it's going up again... can't help it.

WHAAAAAAAAAAATTTTT???

Gee, that s.cks! You certainly saw that my config is a little bit above average Standard product but 16 to 17 weeks for yours already? I am wondering if Apple is not pulling my leg: Order 8/14, sched ship 9/21, new sched ship 10/22... Seems like Apple will release a G5 3Ghz before my dualie 2.5 is shipped... This is just getting ridiculous!!

Anyone from Apple, Inc on this site?

Regards,

Michel

Hehe.. I think if they scroll through the first 5 pages, they will begin to notice that this thread is not about Powermacs ACTUALLY shipping..

as a matter of fact, this thread should be called different: "G5 2.5 still not shipping"

Klaus, Maybe that helps, calling them. But the fact that you or anyone else has to call AGAIN is just wrong to start with.

I wonder what Steve would say if he heard this story.. AND I can bet that if I get mine, the 3 Ghz will be announced shortly. I can feel it.

But heck if it takes another 6 months to deliver, I'm happy with my 2.5

I think Apple is lying to their loyal customers

Ordered (june 13th) : dual 2.5 ghz, 1.5 gb ram, 9600 xt (128 mb vram), 23" alu ACD (arrived already, but waiting in reseller warehouse on his companion)
Shipping : who knows?) Ordered online : lacie d2 160 gb hd triple interface (shipped 8/20 - delivered 8/23)
I heard that the 6800 was delaying the delivery of Duali 2.5 + 30"... But from this post (for instance) it appears that the dualie 2.5 is delaying the entire stuff.. I would bet that the dual 2.5 is having some serious technical flaws and that they delay everything.

How is it that an order like the one above is delyed that much when no 6800 or 30" is involved?

Michel

I don't think there are issues that are causing the delay, primarily because Apple Benelux doens't get much of these machines. They are in tight supply from IBM, and most of them are going straight to the US and major european countries.

We live in a small country with little marketshare for apple..and that's probably the main reason.. But if they continue to deliver machines like this, it's not going to get better anytime soon.

Hi,
I think Apple is having a lot of problem getting this 2.5 in quantity right now.

I place an order sept 20 on the Canadian Apple Store (EDU) for a "stock 2.5", my ship date was for the 30 sept. But October 1st, i receive a new shipping date from Apple. It's now November 23 !!!

Hope everybody will get there G5 before Christmas!

My wait is over (but not really over until I have it)

Well,

I called Apple this morning, to speak with the person who handles complaints, she would look into my problem, but needed the ordernumber from the dealer. So she could look into that specific order, to see where the problem was. She gave me her number and name, so I could call back.

I phoned my dealer to ask for this info, but they couldn't give that to me straight away, so he would call me back. Half an hour ago, he called me back with the message that there are 2 standard configs on their way to their warehouse, and one of them is mine, since I was the first in line.

It's coming through the netherlands, so it'll take a while until I get the phonecall that it's in, but normally it should reach my dealer in less than a week.

BUT, I will not believe it until I can go pick it up, these 4 months have taught me that much.

I hope it's true.

To all Belgium peeps, if you want I can give you the number and name from the person at apple, she didn't needed to help me, but maybe she can help you guys. Just mail me or something.

I hope everyone (and especially ge4-ce and macetaria) get their machines real soon!

Glad to hear this good news for you, Klaus, let's hope it's true.

2.5 Ghz G5 Quad-Processor

Well, sort of. When Apple agreed to send me a replacement, they made me sign an agreement that I would send the faulty one back within five days of the delivery of the new one.

That means I'll have two of the suckers temporarily. This time around I'll run the migration routine so all my hours invested in setting this one up won't have been in vain.

Another interesting detail: when I asked if this one had to go to Holland again before coming to the UK, she said yes, but 'it'll be sent via priority shipping' which means regular customer orders go 'cargo'.

By the way, I ran Xbench last night and my machine received an overall benchmark of 2.27 (G4 800 DP is the baseline at 100)

Mines shipped too

:D
:D
I originally placed my order (edu) on the 9th of sept for a 2.5g + 6800 -super drive rest all stock spec. (on the phone i was told by two different sales people expected shipping date would be about 4wks)
Decided to place order over the web.
First ship date was sept 29 which very quickly (within 2 hours) got bumped to 29 oct.
Having waited patiently (like the rest of u) for about a month i decided enough was enough and ran apple cancelled the order went for the 2.5g stock model -superdrive ( the very helpfull sales guy said he would put my order on high priority), this was about a week ago and this morning got that shipment e-mail. 1 more weeks wait before i get my hands on it.
I will wait until tiger comes out before i upgrade the graphics card
By the way I live in the UK.

Shipped from Cork yesterday

Apparently, my machine shipped from Cork, Ireland to my dealer yesterday.

Anybody know how long it usually takes for them to get here? People who ordered online may have a clue about this.

My dealer thinks it'll be about 2-3 days from now, hopefully I can get it in time for the weekend. Not counting on it for the moment though.

Cheers guys

Excellent news Klaus, congrats. My machine took exactly a week to get to me in London. 6 days to get from Cork to the Netherlands and 1 day to get from the Netherlands to the UK.

Probably not much help, but you will have it soon. I feel it in my liquid cooling.

Cheers

It's about damn time you are getting your computer Klaus.
I'm crossing my fingers that it will work as expected.
