Standalone 6800s?

I opted to take delivery of my Dual 2.5 and have Apple send me the 6800 later instead of waiting for the both. I've ordered enough iTunes songs since my original order in June that my order status page doesn't list it anymore -- suppose I need to give them a call.

No, the issue is that your original order is over 90 days old -- they don't list them after that date -- whether they're still open or NOT!

Apple shipped mine WITH the 6800 yesterday (Oct 6), so I expect it will be here today according to FedEx - this was after delay and delay with the last ship on or before date being Oct 21.

92 days of waiting... been for 2 vacations in this time...

I am still waiting for my dp 2,5. Only mods is bluetooth, airport and no modem... Ordered on 12th og July...
Now the deliverydate is pushed 4 times and is now 12th of october!

If this one holds.... then I'll buy one round for all MR members in denmark!!!

Then it'll be 92 days of waiting!!! THIS IS SO NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!!
If they want to do business in the future... they have to do better!!

My G5 that was sent from Cork to my dealer on monday will be available for pickup on tuesday.

Apparently, the orders are processed through their other store in Antwerp, so the machines arrive there, from which they are sent to Gent by truck or something.

Anyway, they are closed on monday, so I'll go pick it up tuesday evening, but I have soccer practice that night, so i won't be able to set it up until late at night, I may have to leave the boxes in the car

IT´S HERE! IT´S HERE HERE IT IS HERE YEAH HERE!!!

Got myself a big lump o aluminium today!!!

Sittin under the table and doing its extended hardware test, 14 min into it... 3 gigs of ram makes the test quite a bit longer:D

Seems to do okay. But man is it noisy at full pace  (the fans go 100% under testing) Did the firewire transfer of my data and settings, firewire 400 seems slow when your´e talking about 70/80 gigs... But you don´t get that "new car smell" when you do it this way.

Did a test run with ps 8 and halo... pretty nice, but didn´t quite get the responsive brush tracking I was expecting in ps. I may need too update the app though? Or adobe has to get their finger out... the newest painter is miles faster in that respect (even on my trusty old G4 2x1.4)

No pic´s, but I guess you guys have seen enough of them by now..

Klaus: you got a nice thing heading your way!!

nice one.. (6800)

The Mac already has an extra power connector on the AGP slot which is used to power the monitor through the ADC connection. Since the 6800 does not have ADC port they can use that power for their own uses. The Mac version will not have extra power leads like the PC version.

Nice. Now just to wait for it too ship... But lots of you seem to be gettin ship notices with the card, so im positive for once.

nanumac,

sounds like you have some issue with photoshop. I have downloaded the latest version of painter and it is nowhere near as quick and smooth as the latest version of photoshop. (although I will admit that it is miles ahead of version 8, that was unusable).

I Thought so. Will reinstall the thing and report back.

Another 2.5 w/ 6800 has arrived!!!

Ordered on 7/17, reordered on 8/06 (I screwed up the first order - my fault).

Original ship date was 9/20, pushed back to 10/22, but I got the ship notification yesterday, and it arrived this morning! :D

It took all of my will power to not call in sick at work to stay home & play :p

What is the configuration you will be using?

Could you let us know more about your first steps with this beautifule 'Baby'?

I admire your dedication to your job. At least it's almost the weekend. Just think you will have a three day weekend coming up. :)

dual 2,5 arrived in belgium

well kind of :)

I did drive to the netherlands (mac support Uitgeest), it was a long long trip (>250 km single, it was a 4 hours drive to get there, because of lots of traffic jam. Going back took about 2h30). I cancelled my order that I had placed on 10/06, because it was a never ending story. Now had the opportunity to get one for real, I took it! It is a demo-model that has been working for 5 days on a video conference (so no dao). They did run an extended hardware test for me (at the store), they took back the stock 160Gb for €80 and I bought two 250Gb drives (raid: mirrored, so I do not have to back-up anymore). They gave me a 5% reduction on the hole thing. Not very much, but the apple margin is about 4%, and, for me it is a new machine and, last but not least: I have it!! (250Gb drives where quite cheap, not apple-like pricing :)

My trip started at 13u00 (after a lot of preparation: collecting money, my girlfriend took an half day off at work, making sure I could export the machine, get them do the hardware test, finding best route...). I was back (never stopped for food or anything: picking up the machine, little talk, pay & go!) at 20u30.

Now I am setting up the machine (wich is very huge and haevy). (I am writing this on my G4).

First the G5 did not want to start up (panic), but my (new, never used) adc monitor is defective (cable is broken), and that caused my computer not to start up. I have an other monitor wich I am using now, I hope I can get an new one asap (I need 2 screens - it are formac gallery 2010's ).

More later, I need to insert install disc 2.
(ps. I am the 7th person with a dual 2,5 in Belgium. Only 6 are deliverd yet).

Dries congrats! Don't mind my post on macfreak where I asked if you got a discount or not, this post answered my question :D

Well, only 6 machines? that's very little. I heard there were three machines at the office of a big newspaper in Belgium (forgot the name, guess it was "Gazet van Antwerpen"). My dealer got a couple of BTO's in, so I guess there were a little more than 6?

Anyway, your wait is truly over, mine isn't over until wednesday :)

Cu!

This is totally off topic - but for all you Belgium people - I just want to tell you that Brugge is a truly wonderful city and of all the countries I tuored as a student with my 60 Day Eurorail Pass and a backpack (in the late 80s), Belguim was truly a wonderful palce. If I could go back to Europe and only visit one place it would be Brugge.

Why take a gamble on any old location - I say pick a sure bet!

Just something to note while this thread takes a deep breath as we all wait for our 6800 cards.

8 days and counting!

Yes, I live just outside of bruges (15 mins by car) and I studied there. Nice places to eat, to hang out, musea, and also some good places to freak out during the weekends ;)

Well, i'm off to bed now, 6 hours until I have to get up for work again! Night' all

It's finally coming!

I just received the email from Apple that so many of us have been waiting so long for. My G5 with 6800 shipped today. It should be coming the first of next week (2 day shipping). I'm leaving town tomorrow for the weekend. Wouldn't it be a bummer if it came tomorrow after I leave. Now just one more week (maybe less) for my 30" display.

It looks like we may be turning a corner on the availability of 2.5 G5s. It's great to see so many who have been waiting for so long to get shipment notices.

No just kidding. When did you order? I ordered late July and am trying to figure out a realistic time for mine to ship ( OBB says next Friday, a week away) but who can believe those anymore?? It does look like we have a steady stream of dualie's with the 6800 coming now. What a trip it's been! (Although there are many other things going on in this world that makes a bunch of guys waiting for the latest and greatest just pale in comparison.)

Yours should be soon

I ordered 07/19. My estimated shipping date was 10/15 (after it was 08/31, then 09/13/, then 10/25). Hope you get the same good news soon.

Congrats!

Well, you are the first person to report having his 2.5 and 6800 actually at hand! Benchmarks anyone? :)

Well people, what should i say...

... IT´S HERE!

yesterday i went to my dealer to ask wether there are any news regarding my G5 and he told me that it has just arrived 30 minutes ago :D !

My first impressions:

Bigger than i´ve expected - at least compared to my G4

A little bit louder than i´ve expected. But still very good. The only really anoying thing is the extremely loud (probably very cheap) harddrive

Great finish! I was really impressed by the case and the materials used. This thing looks more like a Porsche than a computer ;)

VERY impressive speed when you try video editing. I mean this is just totally unbelievable what you can do with this baby in real time!!

As now the machines even arrive in europe i have asked myself yesterday wether it would make sense to set up a forum of some kind for all of us...

Thanks for the first impressions wolinho! Can't wait to run maya on that sucker, even though i'll still be learning it for a couple of months, maybe years.

Hope wednesday comes soon, reaaal soon.

The noise of the harddrive really makes me a little bit angry. Why can´t they just build in a quieter harddrive (e.g. Samsung) in a 3000 € machine  !

Klaus, what kind of animation are you planning to do in Maya?
