Unbelievable - just called into work and found my dual 2.5 with 6800 had been delivered yesterday while I was out of the office. I ordered this on 28th September at 8pm from the Apple Store. No complaints so far. Am going home soon to test it out, but effectively 9 days to get here is amazing. Nice one, Apple. :D :D :D

Congratulations on your new machine. Would that you almost qualify as a record in deliver time. I this a home or work machine?

Send it back Sparky!!!!

Well it would be a fitting statement to Apple and their confused schedule of order fulfilment. I don't really expect you to send it back but nine days from order to delivery?! That's the way it should be: but how would Ge4.ace feel about this? ( Hint he's not happy ) He's been waiting for 4 months and I've been waiting for 71 days and counting. I'm not complaining too much because I think Apple is finally shipping in quantity so I have high hopes that we'll all have our screaming machines soon.

What was your configeration other than the 6800? Was it stock?

Sorry for the delay in coming back guys - I have now got the machine home and set up. I am copying across most of my old stuff now - iTunes library etc. The machine is very quiet (although I have not been folding yet). It is a home machine - dual 2.5GHz, Bluetooth module with wireless keyboard and mouse (still 1 button), just 512MB of RAM (I am about to buy more from Crucial), no modem and 6800.
So it is certainly not an off the shelf model, but how did I get it so fast? I'm not complaining, but it does seem very unfair on the guys who have been waiting. I am in Northern Ireland - does the fact Apple have a large base in Ireland make a difference? Anyway I hope they are now shipping in volume.

I don't feel happy about at all.. But not towards you sparky!! I'm very happy for you. I wish everyone a good time with that screaming machine! I'm just angry with Apple. They are the ones treating people unfair!

6800 update...

ok...so I THINK I found the issue with my MAYA crashing...more of a program issue then the 6800.... so far I am VERY pleased with the speed of this bastard...it is VERY fast in rendering a simple 3d scene...overall this 2.5 is a monster...very nice...I cant wait to see what haps when TIGER is released....and the raw 64bit power is unleashed....this is the start of the next mac revolution...and it is going to be very grand indeed.....

No rhyme, no reason...

I certainly can't complain about not having recieved my system yet- I didn't order until Sept. 9th- but Apple really needs to assemble in the order they recieved orders. I feel worst for those who ordered way back when the 2.5's were announced. It's just stupid the way Apple is doing it. Oh well, maybe by Christmas they'll be all caught up (just in time to announce something new to be delayed)... Oy vey...

For those of you with a 6800 Ultra DDL...

How much video ram does it have? 256MB or 512MB?

It doesn't say how much on Apple and according to Barefeats it has 512MB. (I couldn't believe it!)

So how much does it have?

WOOO HOOOOO!!!!! Mine shipped.......

I can't believe it, having waited since 30th June, I got my shipment notification today.......I can't wait for 'my baby' to arrive.

It's so close I can feel the warmth!

Hope everyone still waiting get theirs real soon. :D :D :D

JD32,

You have no idea how right you are. I have mine mounted under my table using a deskmount from marathon and it is keeping my legs nice and warm. It puts out quite a bit of heat.

It is uber quiet though. I can hear my B/W G3 that is over 10 feet away from me over this G5 and I have processor setting to highest. This thing moves some air through it but it is very quiet while doing so. I am pretty impressed with this computer overall.

I hope everyone gets theirs soon. I think the majority of people still waiting are outside the U.S.

Is your 30" HD display being shipped at the same time? Congrats!!!!!

Sweet JD32, let us know how warm it really feels ;)

So, is this card's fan quiet? Just curious.

BTW, you may want to watch your electric bill. I think mine has gone up $10-$20 a month since having the G5.

That is what this thread is for, so that we can each be here for the other. It's a way to commiserate. I think that it has worked very well so far. It seems that delivery is improving somewhat.

Thanks

I just want to say thanks to everybody in this forum, you guys made the wait bearable.

CeeGee, Klaus, thanks for the 'warm' words, I'll let you know how I get on......

30Inches, The CPU has shipped direct from the Emerald Isle, everything else, inc. 30" Screen, AppleCare, etc has shipped from the our friends in the Netherlands.

This is great timing, I'm on vacation from 10/19 for 3 weeks.....

sorta loud

this 2.5 with the 6800 does fire up a lot...i dont know if it is the mac or the 6800...but they do go on and off a bit...not sure why...but it doesnt really bother me...maybe future driver releases with fix it...

whatever..I still love it...

Apples & Lemons

Hi, I'm trying to type this message before my machine goes into another unpredictable 'Thermal Runaway' and shuts down. Quite disappointing.

They are sending a complete replacement, but I'm now focussing my ire on the fact that 6800-equipped machines are being sent out, but to my knowledge, those of us who split-shipped are not receiving the cards (with or without 30" monitors).

Last friday when I called (on my birthday, coincidentally) I had a very sympathetic gentleman who apolgised up and down for the fact that they were just stalled with regard to movement out of the plant. Every indication is that they are both ready to ship and they are both in the UK, but they just sit there.

I just want to test the complete unit and hope I don't get another lemon next time. :(

2.5 G5 from Resellers

Heyal - I ordered my 2.5 G5 on 6/17 and am still waiting... like many of you as well! But I didn't order the 6800 - I ordered the 9800XT and1.5 Gig of Ram - not too much to ask for... Anyone have any info on ship dates to resellers?

HA! Good luck.. After about 3 and a half month of waiting, I now phone Apple every day. Now I even got the feeling they are playing with me. The person I spoke to previously, is not there, has a day off, and I have to call back later. She should have called me back like she promised. tsssss.. I try to get information from Apple with regards to the delay of Powermac 2.5 it's just insane.. You don't get ANY info..

If tomorrow, I don't get a satisfing answer, I'll call again and ask for the general boss of Apple Benelux.. (If there is a boss, over there.. I doubt it because there is no organisation at all!)

This comedy has to end, and it has to end soon!

I can't get over how many people are still waiting for their PowerMacs after months and months! It's really surprising, and I feel for all of you. Geez, at this rate the next PowerMac revision will be announced by the time your "new" machines arrive!

Hi Ge4-ce, saturday I saw one Dual 2.5 at a dealer in Duesseldorf - it´s not so far away from Belgium

If it were that simple.. I cannot really cancel my order with my current distributer.

I believe that you one of the first that I know of to have a 30" display. Congratulations, that is awesome. Anxiously await you review.
