Dual 2.5GHz PowerMacs Shipping

I have been following this thread for quite a while. I ordered a Dual 2.5 with 23" monitor from MacMall in mid July, I talked to my rep today and he said don't ecpect to see it this year. That will be a total of 6 moths of waiting. Did any of you order form Mac mall and if so, did you recieve your machine yet.

I ordered from ClubMac (same company as MacMall/PCMall) on 6/9/04 a few hours after the 2.5s were announced. I received my mac on 8/24 - so it took a while - but i got it. I can't believe that it would take you until the end of the year to get it though. Thats an awful long time. Hang in there - it will get here... and it will be worth the wait.

They said that there are 400 on back order and that my order is in the top 100 (after 3 months I should be in the top ten in my opinion). Then he read me some memo (validity unknown) that said apple will not be fufilling the current back orders until January. These guys at MacMall tell you a different story every time you talk to them. Can't blaim them, apple seems to have hung them out to dry. Starting to think I should get a dual 2.0, but after waiting this long, seems as that would be an impatient move.

I just ordered my G5 with the 6800 this morning. My monitor has been shipped. I got over night shipping on both, but no word of the G5 being shipped. Says it will be shipped on or before 11/17.

Ceegee, don't worry, my machine is at my dealer, and i'll be picking it up within 8 hours or so, spend some time yesterday at my nephews house, setting up his dual 2.0. So sweet had some trouble setting up his dsl modem, but will leave that for some other time.

Anyone in Ireland received theirs yet?

I’m waiting on a DP2.5 + nVidia 6800 + 30" screen. I’ve checked the forums for any ref to orders being delivered to Dublin or anywhere in Ireland and haven’t found any. Just checking to see if any have made it through to here yet. Kinda frustrating seeing as the machines are assembled only a few hours drive away from here in Dublin.

See page 228 of this thread - I got mine in 9 days to Northern Ireland, including 6800. Hope yours gets there as fast. Be sure to post when you do get it - it would be good to see if there is a pattern.

Well so much for mine arriving when i start the first term of university, i now live down south bournemouth way because i go to university down here, but i used to live with parents in cheshire, now computer warehouse cant give me any details and neither do mac, they keep saying if there are any powermac Dual 2.5s coming to england they will be the first to grab their hands on them? so like i hear other ppl in england have got their hands on them last month! and another thing i did it on finance a while back and they are gonna send it from london where it will arrive supposedly to cheshire north west where i used to live with my parents! arghhh! how annoying to then send it back down here by post, i really dont like the idea. BUt what can you do? i think this is turning into another 17inch powerbook nightmare, but i dont think i deserve to wait this long! time is ticking and so is our patience!

I am sorry that you have not recieved your G5 yet, you unfortunately are caught in the same boat as you and some of them ordered up to 2 months earlier than you. I think that Apple will eventually catch up with their backlog in the next month so that turn around times will be in line with their other products. I hope so because maintaining the spreadsheet beyond that time will kill me

The thing is they are so inaccurate on their shipping dates. The predicament of their shipping dates is so inaccurate that it will need to change to really achieve, i mean mainly the reason of the delay is the actual chip itself, this is what i think they have done, gone here you go look at this G5 its top it works and everything, and then given a very unreal shipping date to then think crap IBM cant cope with this demand! and then it has a knock on effect to the primary and secondary suppliers.Not good enough.Enough said.

My wife errrr.... I mean girlfriend...just called to tell me TNT have just delivered my order. She said that the CPU came first and the the screen etc, was delivered an hour later by another driver.

Got the shipping notification on the 9th (Saturday), goods received today.....not bad...........considering I've been waiting since June 30th!!

Can't wait to get home, except I have to work late this evening...Oh well, I guess I really can't have everything

Congrats... And thanks for following up on this forum with comments / results/ benchmarks....

Called Apple Support Yesterday to check on the shipping Date... Left the call more frustrated... Excerpt:
- "We cannot tell you more than what is on the web site..."
- "... We have no idea if we will respect the date..."
- "... We started shipping but cannot guarantee you the shipping date"
Asked for a manager... Waited 21 minutes
- "Sir, we just take orders and once it is in the system...."
- "Sir , we can't tell you how far you are in the queue..."

When I asked his role and the role of the people he was supervising he said (certainly with a straight face " We are Customer Support..." Apple should call them "Paper Pusher Dept" or "Order Entry Dpt" ... or simply "Joke Dpt".

Thanks for the reply Sparkey. Our 3rd party suppliers here in Dublin were told by Apple that all DP2.5 orders would be processed by the end of October. I’d take that with a large pinch of salt myself.

I have a 23" display.. I came 7 inch short in my wallet.. ( I SAID WALLET! NOT PANTS!)

I do a lot of photoshop + DVD SP + FCP HD + Other stuff... I used to have the 22" ACD and I have found that when using the 3 apps at the same time I was lacking space and I rarely used Expose (F9)... So I bought the big one... But once gain: who knows if it will be enough space (just kidding)...

Such a big screen is not necessary when doing MS office type of applications...

For such a screen, I will have to change desk...

Is the too much money a factor? Certainly... Same as buying a Porshe or Aston Martin when a Chevy can do the same job!!!

Has anyone already used the 30" + Nvidia?

LOL....yes, I'm a professional graphic designer. I do most of my work with PS and Illustrator. The more space to work with....the better.
