I am sooooo glad I cancled my order!!!!
I bet there will be tons of lemons of the first shipments.
I will wait until they slow down and can make them right.

Heh, I hope not too many people have cancelled their orders yet, especially since Apple still hasn't missed their original ship date and with the most recent news it looks like they won't. We can't get too impatient now people. Of course I have to wait until 9/03 because of the 6800 ultra anyways. :D

Ok just spoke to Apple Store. They did confirm that some people were misquoted as to the date of their order and that some (limited quantities) would get their on or before 8/02 and that the email supercedes all communication including their records and the website.

No offense to this petition or those who are participating in it but not only will anyone from Apple probably never see this, but Apple might meet their original ship date anyways. It's not like Apple wanted to delay our orders just for fun, they must be having some serious issues and I'm sure the execs are as angry as we are.

What a rollercoaster

I had my estimated ship date changed from 7/30/04 to 8/20/04 about four hours ago. Now it's back to 7/30/04 and my credit card has about a $3000 dollar hold. Looks like it might ship tomorrow afterall.

yeah... it's called putting your foot in your mouth! Job's is good at saying things that can not be done.

Trust me, sign the petition. I will make sure Steve Jobs sees it. I have written him before and have gotten personal responses from him. HE WILL SEE THIS.

Remember the petition is not because they missed the date, but because no one can get accurate information. I wouldnt care to wait if I only knew why, and didnt have to wait until the last 12 hours to be told. I mean come one, when I spoke to Apple this morning they said mine would be shipping 7/30 and then an hour later they send that damn email.... Someone knew days ago what was going to happen.

So does that mean that the order I placed two days after release, which is a BTO will not ship within the next week?

Has anybody's BTO been pushed back?? Gawd I need to know...

Still fun... :0)

OMG!!!!

This afternoon my ESD went from 7/30 to 8/20 now its back to 7/30 again. I just checked my MBNA account (apple loan) and the temp authorization turned into an actual payment! Does that mean they are gonna ship the frikin thing? I heard they only take your money when they are ready to ship.

.. I ordered a dual 2.5, 9600XT, 512 RAM, no modem, and bluetooth was added. all this on 6/12/2004. Let me know if any one else can confirm being billed --- not temp authorizations.

Duff-Man says...Apple only does *actual charges* to your card when they are shipping your order....oh yeah!

I ordered my dual 2.5 on the 16th of june, and I got two interesting emails from apple today.

The first was very apologetic and said that my shipping date had been pushed back from 7/30 to 8/20. LAME.

The second said that my shipping date had been revised to 8/2. PRAISE APPLE AND GOD, IN THAT ORDER.

So once again I am a happy camper. My G5 probably wont ship friday, but monday's nice too, and a damn sight better than the 20th! It'll be nice to see the thing before I have to hit the books again this fall.

I almost wonder if the 20 in that first email was a typo.

I'm getting crazy! My shipping date went from 07/30 to 08/20 then back to 07/30. Moreover, my credit card accepted TODAY (this evening) an authorization from Apple for the 3rd time!

Dual G5 2.5, 1024 RAM, the rest stock.

Well this is odd

Alright, so earlier I posted that I had received one of those "We removed a line item to expedite your order" emails and that my shipping estimate was holding steady at 7/30. Boy, how quickly things can change. I just checked my order status again and now it says that the order was cancelled, then re-ordered and now my ship date is 9/10/04. Seems like an amazing feat considering I never called them to cancel it :p

What's worse is, this is the second time tonight it has happened.

I think at this point I'm going to have to conclude that Apple is definitely having some issues with it's ordering system at this time and it's anyone's guess what they may see as a shipping date by morning. The thing that worries me about something like this is, if their system is spitting out bad data and randomly cancellng and re-ordering products, what's stopping them from filling the initial batch of orders incorrectly based on this same system? Are the orders going to go out correctly or am I going to end up with a $5,000 USB cable instead of a Dual G5 Mac?

As an application programmer, I gotta say, my confidence is a little shaken here.

You don't even know me... why wish harm on my new computer :(

I got one email today from Apple saying it's a 8/20 ship date. If that actually happens, I can tolerate it, assuming they ship 2-day as rumored. However, I really need this computer soon. If they ship within a week I'll be happy.

If they don't ship by 8/20, it will be essentially too late for me, so I'll cancel and re-order with a 6800 and just get it whenever I get it.

I really don't understand exactly what's going on here. I received the "8/20" email, never received any revised revision email, yet my Estimated Ship Date remains 7/30 (it never changed and I was checking constantly). Is my 2.5 going to ship or not? I'll be sure to post if my status changes at all today.

[Edit]Correction... I just refreshed my order page again for the third time this morning, and now it has changed to "8/20." This really sucks. I placed my order on June 9th (day one) also. Increased the HD and RAM, and added an Airport Extreme card - nothing major.

I bet I lost my place in the queue though, because when my daily spending limit stopped them from getting the pre-authorization on my card on June 11th, they cancelled an re-added the G5. They didn't do this for anything else on my order. I'd think that even on the 11th, I'd still be close to the front of the line.

Any changes in dates, or emails to any UK customers?

UK here, I've not gotten any email and the online status is still "On or before 30/07/2004" although going by other posts the online status is meaningless.

I ordered on 15/06, if I don't get an update, either way, by the end of the day I may email my rep.

My order went out on the 16th of June also, paid with a wire transfer. Well I get up this morning and check the order status and it says "on or before 9/20/04" (September *&$%*!!!) it's stock except for the 2gig ram and airport card. I'm going to call them about the september 20th date and demand more than the $90 since i was not the one to pay for it.

I'm lucky i have an upgraded cube at work and a nice quicksilver at home... I can't imagine a student expecting to receive this thing durring the summer not getting it till 3 or 4 weeks into their fall quarter or semester!

Just got off the phone now with AppleStore UK.
Have 3 on order (std. config)... order placed 1st July.

"Middle of August" was the reply.
"Can you be more precise?" I asked?
"No"

Update: 5 mins later, I get an email saying 'August 20th' and that demand has been 'incredible'

Well no offence, but I hope that since your order was over 2 weeks after mine, it means I will still get mine as scheduled - 2nd Aug.
