Sounds like it's ready to ship if it hasn't already. I bet you will see it this week. :)

invaLPsion and I are in the same boat except I that I didn't get the combo, I stuck with Super. We both ordered on June 9th and despite Apple's claim that they are shipping in order, we seem to be getting screwed. My card has been pre-authorized 3 times now including yesterday, but still nothing. My optimism is in short supply now too, but I'm still hoping for something this week.

I hope I get some kind of update with a tracking number, otherwise I may never know it's here. The cinema display came on Friday, but the FedEx man/woman, didn't ever come to my door. He/she left it at my apartment complex's office. I got no notice at all. I saw online that it had been delivered and went to get it. If I hadn't had the tracking number I'd never have known, and the ladies in the office have been letting people go to the back room to get their own stuff. It could get stolen so easily. They aren't even reminding people to sign for their packages or checking to make sure they took something that really belonged to them. I've got to have that tracking number!

Quote for the day

Like a fool I ordered a 2.5DP G5 on the 9th of June from AppleStore UK.

I even paid in advance, by wire transfer! Steve Jobs has probably already spent the money on designer jeans.

This is a quotation for people like me, who trusted Apple:

"A fool and his money are soon parted."

Royally screwed. I called no less than 5 times to 3 different divisions of Apple. They all knew nothing...

I have sent three emails... none of them have been replyed to...

I have been lied to by Apple...

The only thing that keeps me from caneling is the thought that these past two months would have been a complete waste of my time and money. Also, the thought of seeing that big black box (and a G5 coolant leak:D).

You aren't alone JD... :)

Ok, latest update. Just got off the phone with Apple, and here's what I've learned.

The guy admittedly didn't have ALL the answers we'd like but I did learn a thing or two.

Evidently too many people were sent delay emails, which is why people like me and many of you are receiving follow-ups like the one I posted above. Not all of the follow up emails have been sent, which means that just b/c you haven't yet received an email yet saying you're in luck and your system is going to ship on Aug. 2nd, you STILL MIGHT.

He also told me to IGNORE ANY STATUS MESSAGES ON THE APPLE SITE, as they aren't updated correctly yet and will just confuse you. Go by the emails they send out.

Other than that, I have no idea what's going on, but as always will keep you all posted when I learn more.

Heh, that's actually my post from AI.

ADC Orders

Has anyone who ordered through the ADC store received a better revised ship date than 9/13? I noticed another poster who ordered through ADC got this revised date and now I have it as well.

A little frustrating since I placed my order on June 9 (for a stock 2.5) and I'm seeing plenty of folks with mid-to-late June order dates who are getting into the 8/2, 8/9, and 8/20 brackets. Strange that developers would get lower priority than retail customers, so I'm wondering if this is universal for ADC orders.

This Sucks

Well I got my revised shipping date from the very first wave of e-mails, it is now scheduled for September 3. I ordered on July 15 at about 6:00 PM so i dont expect to be high in the list compared to others on this board, but the new date puts me almost 3 weeks into my freshman year of college.

BTW:
CTO
2.5GHz PowerPC G5 065-4803
2GB MB DDR400 (PC3200)-4x512 065-5114
250GB Serial ATA-7200rpm 065-4982
8x Super Drive (DVD-R/CD-RW) 065-4928
ATI Rad9800 XT w/256MB DDR 065-4893
Mitsubishi Diamond Pro (arrived 1 week ago)

Hopefully someone somewhere can speed up the line, so everyone, especially those who ordered their G5 in June can hurry up and get their machine.
Oh, and my call to the apple store in reply to the line in my email "If we do not hear from you prior to shipment, we will assume the revised date is acceptable..." resulted in "sorry sir, thats what your date is, it might come earlier."

Current Lead Time?

Anyone have a thought as to what the lead time would be for a pretty much stock 2.5Dual if I place the order today? I was thinking of waiting for units to appear at my local apple store, but they looked at me cross-eyed when I asked when they would get stock.

Well, apple's website says 4-6 weeks if you order it stock, we can't give you any more info than that..

Duff-Man says...if you put one in your cart at the online applestore it says "4-6 weeks" still, so I would think you are looking at mid-september....oh yeah!

My stock 2.5 order yesterday has a ship date of before 9/14. Exactly six weeks. I intend to keep checking the other usual suspects and if one turns up sooner I'll cancel my Apple Store order. Plus if the new LC Macs turn out to be problematic I'll still have plenty of time to switch to a 2.0.

Duff-Man says....when you placed the order did it not say 4-6 weeks? seems to me that Sept 3 is not far off from the original 6 weeks....hang in there.....oh yeah!

What would happen to Duff-Man if Duff-Man didn't start every post with "Duff-Man says..."?

I had a feeling you would say that. But my usually large amount of optimism is beginning to run low. :(

It may be that they are delaying my order because of the combo drive. But, that is, of course, pure speculation. It is all I have at this point.

Keep checking the Order Status page. Why did you get the combo drive instead of the Superdrive?

Check this out. This is where our G5s are being shipped from. Shenzhen China. I wonder if they will include fortune cookies? :)

$100 cheaper and I don't burn DVDs...

I prefer the faster CD read, write, and DVD read speeds.

That seems like a good approach, Mr. Pig. Can online orders be cancelled on line, or do you have to call Apple to cancel? Incidentally, for those who are wondering about transit time via Fedex, my wife's iPod Mini was Fedexed from the same factory in China and got here in only three days.

Is a "seven day hold" a good sign that your order will ship soon?

Is that what your Order Status page says? If so, call Apple back and ask them what that means.

Oh ya, things ship fast now days. FedUps quit using boats years ago. :D

My ADC order was pushed back from 7-30 to 9-13 on 7-30 too. Mine's not a stock unit though. Bumped the drive to a 250 GB and added an airport card and bluetooth. I've also never gotten a notice from apple about the change. Sounds like most people did. I wouldn't have known if I wasn't checking the status every 20 min. If it's still showing the same status by mid-day tomorrow, I'm going to call to bitch about the change and never being notified.

It was worst for me when mine came Friday. FedEx left it at my condo's front door in plain sight. Plus, I'm in Phoenix. So a black box in 110 degree weather during mid-day is a great recipe. Luckily I got home shortly after the drop off. The monitor was still in perfect condition with not bad pixels.

Ok, that's just weird... considering both Apple and my bank told me that holds last only 72 hours. Well, maybe that's only for a check card rather than an actual credit card. I'm still holding out hope that ours will ship tomorrow. I doubt anything went out today.

Forget about getting emails. My unit shipped yesterday and I still have not got any emails. The last email I received says shipping 8/20. My Order Status page did indicate it shipped though. I was told you can't even go by that though. Just look for the FedUps truck to pull up. :)

Well it's at least good to hear that there's some consistency to the process. I too have not received any email notifications of any kind about the delay. When I called to find out the scoop after picking up my jaw off the floor on Friday, I was told that 9/13 represented the absolute latest that it would ship by and is likely to ship sooner. I'm working under the assumption that it's simply a placeholder until a more realistic ship date can be determined next week.

When I spoke to a rep on Friday, she mentioned that they were having "problems" with ADC orders specifically, although she was not able to elaborate on what those problems might be. I can't even begin to guess. I was very polite and didn't raise hell (that's what internet forums are for!) and it seemed she clearly wished she could tell me more, but just didn't have any hard facts.

All in all, I get the impression that no one there really knows what's happening with all these orders and that a measure of further patience is necessary until the situation is clarified.

That is a big 10-4!! I sure would hate to be working the phones there!

I fully agree. I called Friday to find out what was going on with EDU order and they couldn't tell me a thing. The first guy I talked to was very polite and offered a supervisor. I accepted hoping that a sup would no more. To be honest she seemed to know LESS than the first guy. Not only that she was VERY rude. I can only imagine that she was fed up with calls concerning 2.5 shipments. Still, I don't think that's a very good excuse.

Nevertheless, there is very little we can do. I HOPE that those of us who ordered the first day will be getting our computers early next week. But really, that's all we can do....hope. ;)
