Well, I guess he'll be protecting itself with his powerbook 17" and airport express which he was using to write that famous email to all apple employees. :D

Only the titanium models could stop bullets, and that was from a distance of at least 50 feet away.

I'm talking two or three feet here... :D

According to my rep in the UK, mine *should* be still shipping today, just waiting for some confirmation.

Ordered 12th June, CTO 9800XT 256 and 1Gb RAM

Is this from Apple UK or a reseller?

hmm. I thought for sure I'd be able see some reports on this thread or somewhere on the 2.5s this morning. Where are they?

TheGimp. I'm sorry I doubted you. Please post your impressions of the 2.5 you got last Friday. Unless of course....no, I believe you. Really I do. :)

It's a reseller - MacMerchant, Tottenham Court Rd.

Just got of the phone to him, and he is none the wiser! - getting different stories from different contacts, and none of them will guarantee anything or state a date... which quite frankly, is ridiculous!!! - how the hell can you give a date for shipping, have 'apparently' started the process with some peoples machines, and not know where orders are in that process, especially IF they ARE following date of order to date of despatch.

I am f*cking disgusted!

All my guy can say is that according to his sources, it will be before the end of August!!! - that's so sh*t Apple.

CDW is now telling me end of August as well. I was originally slated for 7/16 and then 8/03 and now 8/30.

It's a stock machine, except CDW is adding 3 gigs of ram. Shouldn't slow it up from Apple though. I'm hoping that they can beat 8/30, because this is really screwing me up. I wish I had just gone with the dual 2 and been making money on it for the last two months! I suppose I won't regret it when it gets here, though. Just hurry up!

Anybody have a G5 I can borrow while i wait?? :)

Since a lot of us are still waiting, I thought I would through this question out there for experienced Mac users. Being a new recruit to the Apple family I am unaware of the Mac software catalogue and I was wondering what "must haves" are out there?

Long story short: What mac-specific software would you not want to live without?

How does this relate to "Dual 2.5GHz PowerMacs Shipping"?

why are ADC orders not shipping?

Has anyone who ordered through the ADC store received a better revised ship date than 9/13? I noticed another poster who ordered through ADC got this revised date and now I have it as well.

A little frustrating since I placed my order on June 9 (for a stock 2.5) and I'm seeing plenty of folks with mid-to-late June order dates who are getting into the 8/2, 8/9, and 8/20 brackets. Strange that developers would get lower priority than retail customers, so I'm wondering if this is universal for ADC orders.

I also have an ADC order placed on June 9th. So far my computer hasn't been shipped and there is no charges on my credit card.

My ship date changed on Friday from 8/2 (yup, since day 1 it was never 7/30) to 9/3, even though others with identical order dates and configurations are reporting that their computer have shipped. It is almost as if I've been left off the order queue since I have not received ANY emails from Apple regarding delays (didn't get the 8/20 email) and have not heard from Apple at all. I called up Apple to ask several times, and all they can tell me is "I don't know". This is quite frustrating!

All signs seems to indicate that we are indeed at a lower priority than normal consumer orders. Isn't Apple supposed to treat developers well??!

I'm trying to remain opitimistic. I mean less than a day after they said that all orders were delayed until 8/20 apple started shipping some units. I'm hoping that this next batch of macines will be much larger, and will come much sooner then 3 weeks. I have a good feeling they will.

I don't think it has anything to do with your order method, if normal or through adc or student program. Some people who ordered late june have gotten shipment confirmations, while others ordered first thing june 9th, are still stuck at 8/20, so I wouldn't feel left out because you ordered through adc, there are a lot of you guys (and me) being left out a little..oh well, I don't take it too harsh, cause I ordered through reseller, and will have to wait a little longer..patience is a virtue..

Same thing with me. I called the Billing Center and they said that an authorization hold was placed on the card on the 21st of July, which "indicates shipment soon". What a load of crap. I get the distinct impression that very few people are getting their orders shipped, no ADC orders have been shipped, and just about nobody at Apple has a clue as to what is going on.

Who's running their manufacturing, a circus monkey? They handed the 2.5 off as a finished product sometime in May. It's now August and I have yet to hear of one real order arrive for delivery. Overwhelming orders? WTF??! Only a few hundred have been shipped. Are you telling me they only expected about 1000 of these puppies to be ordered?

At this point, trying to defend Apple's handling of this fiasco seems like utter nonsense.

ADC update

Just checked my (ADC) order status and it now reads 8/20, sooner than the previous 9/13. Could be a glitch, temporary, or for good? Only time will tell. Still no emails.

brykken: Check out the old BBEdit Lite (the still-free version) and perhaps Voodoo Pad ($15 I think). HexEdit (free) if you ever want to break things, and OmniGraffle (varies) if you need a lite designing tool. Possibly GraphicConverter ($35?) if you spend time converting images between format.

Just trying to pass the time while we are waiting for our "Dual 2.5GHz PowerMacs" to ship. No need to get huffy.

As soon as I saw this, I checked my ADC order as well. It's also set to 8/20 now. Moving up three weeks is oddly satisying, even if the previous date (9/13) was completely ludicrous (over 3 months from the order date!). Maybe they should've done this to everyone...

Still no emails, however, so it's hard to say if this new date has any more meaning than the last.

I'm getting pretty much the same. Surely somebody should know by now when they should be getting initial deliveries. Does apple really treat their resellers so badly by keeping them in the dark? You have to assume that the resellers really don't know anything or they would tell us.

The only thing I can think of is possible component shortages. Say they are short on cooling units or 2.5s, and they have order dates promised from IBM or another one of their subcontractors. They can only hope that those dates are correct. And once they do recieve the components they still have to be installed in the computers. In a case like this, they might not know when they are gonna ship the next batch.

I honestly think that they will ship before the 20th. I think that they are giving a very safe date so that people don't get too angry. To miss the initial date is understandable (I suppose - I have a feeling that they knew very few units would go out by the promised "July" date) but to be pushed back again (which of course, is not out of the question given apple's past record with new products) will really start to piss people off.

Don't buy GraphicConverter yet. It's listed as pre-installed on the new PowerMacs...

Software
iLife (includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD and GarageBand), Art Directors Toolkit, EarthLink TotalAccess 2004, GraphicConverter, OmniGraffle, OmniOutliner, QuickBooks for Mac New User Edition, Zinio Reader, Mail, iChat AV, Safari, Sherlock, Address Book, QuickTime, iSync, iCal, DVD Player, Classic environment, Xcode Developer Tools

I used to love it, but haven't used it in a long, long time. I pretty much use Photoshop/Image Ready/iPhoto for all my imaging needs now.

I think the order method does make a difference in this case, since no one with a shipped computer on this forum seems to have ordered through the ADC store.

But my main problem is that I've gotten no updates from Apple on this at all. While others were informed of the 8/20 delay, I was left in the dark. Does Apple even remember that I have an order? If it wasn't for the sad fact that I check my status every 30 minutes, I would never have known that my order was pushed back to 9/3. I just checked the date again, and it still hasn't moved. All this is happening while people with orders placed after me are having their computers shipped before mine.

While I'm sure it won't help, have you tried calling the ADC store for some information? I'd be curious to hear what they have to say.

I think we are in the same exact boat pal. Why would Apple give shabby treatment to its developers who ordered just days after release??

I'm going on vacation today and will be gone for the next week. When I get back, there sure had better be good news from Apple, or I will lose it. The entire summer has almost wasted away without getting my freaking computer! Real productive...

Well - I've now had my order cancelled (was due to ship today, 2nd August) without any phone call, email or ANY communication from Apple Store. I wouldn't have even known if I hadn't checked my order status.

My credit card expired and has been replaced. I told the Apple rep that my card would be updated half way through the wait and he ASSURED me that there wouldn't be a problem.

I've had it. I called Apple Store - they won't re-instate my orignial order - only give it some vague promise to 'mark it as a priority'.

So, I'm going to buy a nice big hard disk and wait until the new year now ... what the hell - I'm still happy with my powerbook!
