Doesn't the photo of two G5 processors, which seem to share a single case, confirm the rumors about the leaked service manual, where one of the differences was that there were no longer two individual cases for the two processors?

Mine should arrive Friday 16th..

What's your reseller? Mine is ITPro in Gent, ordered my mac on june 13th..
mailed him monday, and he had no word on shipments

here's hoping!

It's nice to see that when Apple says, "Shipping in July", they didn't mean July 31st at 23:59 PM! ;) Along with Airport Express and the 20" and 23" monitors, Apple's doing really well on delivering things roughly when they promised.

Yes. As did the official product photos that appeared all over Apple's site and in related PDF's on June 9th, the day the G5 was introduced.

Trying not to get my hopes up... but i just checked clubmac and although it still says my 2.5 is on backorder, it list a ship date of 7/14/04... keeping my fingers crossed... and i'll keep you all informed.

With all the resellers saying this it looks like they will be shipping the units it looks like it's this week for sure... EXCELLENT :D

ahhhhhhh

This is all very good news indeed.
So the first ones are being delivered in the states right now.
Guess I will call my reseller on friday or so. So that this time he actually knows what he is talking about. (they told me last week they would ship on the 9th of july of course, doh!)
I would need that machine so desparately right now. As I can't work on my brothers laptop anymore… ;) . I hope it will be next week, let it be next week. Looks up in the sky as the clouds open and a ray of light illuminates him.

Duff-Man says....if indeed they are starting to ship, perhaps it will get mentioned during the quarterly results conference call later today.....oh yeah!

It seems to me that it's all the people in foreign countries buying from resellers who are getting confirmation on shipping. I find that a little odd. I ordered a BTO two days after release, and so I feel that I should be among the first few batches to be delivered.

So I'm waiting for some people in the states to claim their APPLE STORE ORDERS SHIPPED before I get my hopes up. ;)

Oh, and does anybody know how much Apple makes their BTO orders lag behind their stock orders??

Just called the apple store again. They said my order has not shipped... in fact... no orders have shipped. They say the rumors are not true.
If they are not telling the truth... why? They get paid for what they sell.. not for what they can't ship yet.
I ordered my 2.5 the minute they went online. I want mine first!! :0)

USA customer....Ordered July 26 after hearing Jobs confirm the heat issue and basically that Moore's law is on hold for a while as far as CPUs is concerned.

Est ship as of July 26 AND as of today = "on or before July 30"

Someone that has called an Apple store and confirmed they have a 2.5 demo unit to put hands on please chime in.......

Otherwise I would be a little skeptical of what this rumor is saying. --E

I also ordered from CDW and my rep said the 20" Aluminum display was scheduled to arrive on the 12th and the 2.5GHz G5 on the 16th. He also said that he thought Apple would probably just ship both products in one big shipment.

So, chalk up some more support for the resellers shipping early.

it might make sense for the resellers to get theirs first. it's still a business and there's money to be made. they're probably all stock orders too, so it would probably be easier and faster for apple to get those put together. thats just speculation on my part though.

Sucks being from the UK

My Apple order says "on or before the 16th August". Im waiting for a G5 2.5ghz specced up to the hilt, with x2 23" Cinema displays. I ordered on the 28th June, as soon as the new cinema displays became available.

Us brits have to put up with always being behind you guys :(

Also, what could help resellers to get their PowerMacs earlier: When they annouced the powerMac, the resellers probably ordered a couple of hundred pieces.. That's a big order that was done at once. It's some sort of a buffer for clients like me that buy straight from the reseller.

I don't know if what I mean is a reseller, they do not have a store, but they deliver Macs to little stores. Is that a reseller? or an importer? or how do you call that..

Response from ClubMac:

"We did receive word from Apple that they have sent out small quantities at a time. however, they did not release to us the information as to "how many" are in that "small quantity." I will definitely be keeping my eyes and ears open to see how many arrive at the warehouse and keep you updated."

It shows that my order shipped today as well. I'm waiting to hear back about that validity of that. I have a tracking number, but it is not working as of yet. It's still early in the states though, so UPS may not have picked it up for shipment yet.

This is getting exciting!

Quarterly earnings today

I think the other reason this rumor exists, whether true or not, is to bolster flagging enthusiasm for what may be lackluster powermac numbers this afternoon. Despite the success of itunes and the ipod, the postponement of the imac and the failure to deliver a 3.0gightz powermac may significantly lower apple's profitability. Having "some" new 2.5 powermacs shipping and some airport express units out the door will be "good" news to announce later this afternoon to the media and shareholders, even if it will be weeks or even a month before they ship in quantity. It doesn't look like there will be anything radically new computer wise until September at the earliest, so even the next quarter's numbers may be weak. Apple is innovating; unfortunately they're just not executing with reliability.

Why ship limited?

Why would Apple ship the 2.5s in limited numbers? Can anyone recall when an update was shipped a few at a time, with resellers getting priority???

From what I gather, Apple normally gives priority to customers, ships in quantity, and beats their expected ship date by a few days. I could be wrong, but who can remember their usual computer update model??

Foreign countries ? As far as i was aware, they are made in Ireland and the displays are made in Asia. I just spoke to someone at Apple UK ( they are based in Ireland ) and they said that the shipping dates have not changed and mine should arrive ( in Spain where I now live ) early to mid August by the latest. He was the one who told me the Macs are made in Ireland.

If that is true then I would say the US is a foreign country, so maybe they will arrive in the UK and Europe first. :)

Just trying to be optimistic, i want my new mac asap. I placed my order today by the way ! G5 2.5 + 23" Display.

i may be wrong about the Ireland thing so don't bite my head off, just passing on what i was told.

The Saga Continues

"The order has not shipped as the computer has not physically arrived at our warehouse yet. I am not sure, honestly, as to why the website is showing you something that states "date shipped 7/14/04" :/"

That's my latest e-mail from ClubMac. Even though the website says that it shipped today, my representative is saying it didn't. I'm confused, as is he it appears. But he does seem to believe that they will be arriving any date.

I just don't understand why it would give me a link to track the shipment and everything... very strange, and VERY disappointing.

BTW, I live in the US.

Has anyone called the Apple store in the their area and confirmed that there's a demo 2.5 there or when its coming......?

Thats an autorrized distributer.

Sounds like a trickle.....

They might have released a few of these beasts into the wild, but I don't think everyone should go stand by the door and wait for the package just yet. Keep in mind that we waited a long time for big blue to kick out enough processors to even make an announcement of a new PMG5. Not sure how that supply chain is moving these days, but something makes me think it might not be up to full steam just yet. Plus, I bet the kids in Cupertino are pretty busy filling these large orders for G5-based superclusters. Granted, the clusters that have been announced are using Xserves instead of PM's, but building a few hundred of anything takes time, and probably gets priority due to the positive press it generates for Apple. Just my two cents.
