I guess I will get Applecare later if I decide I need it. Glad I found out you could do that. I might not get it though because you would think that the bugs would become apparent pretty quickly and therefore be covered in your standard one year warranty. Although it would be bad to find out you need an expensive replacement/repair more than a year after you buy it.

Awww blast!! I've waited too long to order the 2.5 G5...4-6 weeks shipping, ugh. I'm gonna see if I can get one earlier at the Apple retail store. Hopefully I can reserve one when they receive their shipments.

Hmmmm....

Just an observation-- I ordered MS Office and Macromedia Studio MX today, they said ships "On or before 07/20". They shipped today. Fedex says they'll arie 07/20. Maybe that means the G5s will arrive 07/30? Or maybe I'm just desperate

I sent Apple an email with a bunch of questions and complaints, like why the Dual 2.5GHz G5 is said to be shipping in July and I'm getting mine near September, and if it's true some have shipped, etc. Let's see what they have to say.

You aren't serious, are you? You just ordered this week. There are thousands, if not tens of thousands of orders ahead of you in the queue that Apple has to fulfill. If you wanted it in July you should have ordered earlier. Only a crazy person would order this late. And only a stupid person like you would call and complain and waste Apple's time. Heck, those of us who ordered on June 9 and received our estimated ship date of July 30 haven't even received ours.

That is the very reason why it's best to purchase AppleCare within the first year. You just never know. The only reason not to get AppleCare is if a person feels confident that they can afford to pay for any repair the would occur, could easily be $1,000.00.

I got to behold the new Power Mac dual 2.5 G5. They had the side panel off, so got to look through the clear plastic. When the Apple technician came over, he also took off the plastic cover. The radiator in front of the processors reminded me of a car radiator.

When I visited my local Apple Store, we don't expect the the dual 2.5 till the first of August. They had the new 1.8 and 2.0. THe G5 case looks the same as the 2.5. What surprised me more was that it also had an item that looked like a radiator. My thought that it was a design issue to save on production costs.

but i'll keep my hopes up

Patience is what's needed. There are still 16 days left in July. The wait will all be forgot when you G5 arrives. ;)

Quick Question

I finally ordered my 2.5 G5 last night and while configuring it i threw on the ultra 6800 card at the last minute. I didn't realize the card wasnt coming out until late august. Since the graphics card isn't all that important to me for the time being I called up the Apple Store and changed my order to the 9800.

My order status now shows the change in graphics card, but i am still listed at a shipping date of 8/27 or earlier.

Im wondering if this means that since i ordered so late I cant really do anything about getting the computer earlier so does it really matter that i changed to an already available graphics card? Hopefully that was all understandable.

It is the liquid cooling system. Did you check for noise reduction or anything like that? I am curious if it is quieter now?

Don't have first hand experience, but here's what I expect:

The 2.5DP will be quiet like the other two machines when idle. During high processor usage such as rendering, the 1.8 and 2.0 fans speed up becoming more audible (this may toggle up and down as needed for cooling) ...whereas the 2.5 fans won't need to speed up without a much heavier processor load, if at all.

If anyone has checked this out with the 2.5, post your observations here.

Arrgh!! - it's getting unbearable waiting!! :) - I never had to wait for a Mac before - but then I never ordered a top of the line before either!.... I am bloody dreaming about the thing! lol!

I wonder how long the delay is when you buy a BTO model.
I ordered on the 13th of june, completely stock. So maybe mine will arrive a bit sooner than the ones they need to configure.. or am I hoping for too much :)

edit : added some ram that I bought from the reseller, not from apple

So this rumor is just that. There are no 2.5x2s in retail stores and they are not shipping, correct?

Yeah, I think it was all just a rumor. I haven't seen any other rumor or news site post an article on G5 2.5's shipping, and surely one of the other Mac rumor or news sites would have.

Come on, Arn. What were your sources on this one?

Can you at least put a question mark at the end of the name of the thread to denote that it could be false (and probly is).

Yea, what's wrong with a retraction, or at least a "?" on the report?

I seriously hope that this whole thing is not based upon a mixed up shipment that led to Jimsdown getting two shipped a couple weeks ago.

INFO!.... (please)... :)

I just spoke to my CDW rep and he still says they're scheduled to arrive today. I then called a couple more people there to see if I could get some more info.

One guy told me that there's a reasonable chance they came today. Apple did not change the shipping date in their system and they always do when they are shipping things later. He also noted that their shipping & receiving department is really backed up and doesn't think they'll be in stock until Monday or Tuesday.

So, it's definitely not concrete but was good news to me.

I'd be freakin awe struck and stupified if they actually got them in today, or by monday.
